I thank you for your contribution. I am a native user of this village, a thing I ask you, if you would like to sometimes visit here and if you would like to be the first Jew to become my friend. I don't have a Jewish friend yet, I have Catholic friends, Moslems, Christian orthodox, Christian Protestant, Buddhists, but I would like to compare me with a Jew. Would it go you? thanks PS sorry my bad English --Lodewijk Vadacchino (talk) 19:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:AlltheRealGirls.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:AlltheRealGirls.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:08, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:RockSwings.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:RockSwings.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rockfang (talk) 23:00, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Changing BCE/CE to BC/AD and vice versa

I wonder if you could tell me a really tactful way to say that this is just not done at Wikipedia, one that would get the idea across but wouldn't result in resentment or hurtful outbursts.

There's some text buried at Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style

Either CE and BCE or AD and BC can be used—spaced, undotted (without periods) and upper-case. Choose either the BC/AD or the BCE/CE system, but not both in the same article. Style guides generally recommend writing AD before a year (AD 1066) and after a century (2nd century AD); however, writing AD after the year (1066 AD) is also common in practice. The other abbreviations always appear after (1066 CE, 3700 BCE, 3700 BC). The absence of such an abbreviation indicates the default, CE/AD. It is inappropriate for a Wikipedia editor to change from one style to another unless there is a substantive reason; the Manual of Style favors neither system over the other.

...but it doesn't seem to be very effective. If you can come up with a brief text that I might leave at Talkpages when this is required, I'd be very grateful if you'd post it at my talkpage. Thank you.--Wetman (talk) 19:13, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Oh. now I see that the change was made by some anonymity, 25 February 2008. Sorry to trouble you. I'd still be glad of a brief text. No one seems to have a discreet way to phrase this. --Wetman (talk) 19:21, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:James Robinson.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:45, 19 August 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sdrtirs (talk) 23:45, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:32GlennGould.png

Thank you for uploading Image:32GlennGould.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:29, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of "Thomas McMillan"

A page you created, Thomas McMillan, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how they are important or significant, and thus why they should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for biographies in particular.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Reformatting of dates

Please don't change the format of dates. Most British people and many people internationally write dates in day-month-year order, e.g., 12 December 1904. Most Americans use month-day-year order, e.g., December 12, 1904. If the article is about an American topic, use month-day-year. If it is a British or European topic, use day-month-year. If neither, leave it as originally written. Many Americans or British people take offence if an article about their country, written in their local version of English, is changed around to a version they don't use. So please do not do that.

If you have any questions about this, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Enjoy your time on the web's fastest growing encyclopædia (or encyclopedia, if you write it that way!). Thank you.

|In particular, please pay attention to MOS:DATE#Retaining the existing format, and MOS:DATE#Strong national ties to a topic which indicates that Canada is not tied to either prescribed WP date format. Dl2000 (talk) 19:50, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

My apologies - I did overreact to your numerous edits today - just saw that many of your edits were less contentious (e.g. unlinking of dates, as seems to be prevailing at MOS:DATE). Date formatting, particularly in the Canadian context, is a somewhat undecided issue and wanted to point out the current MOS:DATE approach. Perhaps a heads-up and discussion at WP:CANTALK or WP:CANSTYLE was (and is) needed on this matter. Dl2000 (talk) 20:08, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Categories

I was fixing vandalism to Gideon Koren. Somebody took off the MD next to his name again. I saw that the category of Canadian physician was not there anymore either, so I also put that back. Then I looked closer and saw this was your edit and thought there might be a rule about Categories that I don't know. This person is notable in both arts and sciences, also internationally, so he has a lot of categories. Or was your decision to delete that category based only on no MD being next to his name? Thanks. Finding images

Hello YUL89YYZ,

I see that you are quite good at digging up portraits. Can I ask you to help me find a few images?

The first that comes to mind is the photo of Émile Nelligan which is at too low a resolution. There must be something better to replace it. -- Mathieugp (talk) 23:14, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

That was quick! The new picture is much better. Merci! :-) -- Mathieugp (talk) 12:56, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
There a few pictures I would like to find (if there are any). Maybe you can help me out:
John Fraser (or Frazer), captain in the 60th Regiment of Foot, later made a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Montreal by Governor James Murray in 1764. He does not even seem to have an article in the DCB online (which I find surprising). He was colleague with Adam Mabane who has an article and for whom I found a picture already in the Montreal Archives.
François Lévesque (or Francis Levesque or even L'Evesque) [1]
George Allsopp [2]
Jean Dumas Saint-Martin [3]
It is very possible you also find nothing for these people. Thanks! -- Mathieugp (talk) 16:08, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

House of Commons template

None that I know of. I solicited some input at the noticeboard a while back — the consensus was that people liked it, and nobody had an objection to using it as far as I can recall, but nobody ever actually started adding it to articles. Whether people were expecting me to do it all by myself, or whether there were some other concerns about it that nobody communicated in the original discussion, I couldn't begin to guess. Hi

I've just started editing Leo Mol and it seems to me that you kicked the whole article off and I am interested in your sources. I have a book, not large, from the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden and it presents a quite different (or so it seems) view of his early years. There is no mention of art school in Leningrad and some of the other dats (which may or may not have been yours) were different. So I am wondering where you got the info for your first posting from? I am not a big fan of the citation needed tags, would rather figure it out this way. EInar aka Carptrash (talk) 01:09, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

WOW! Thanks for the thoroughly executed as well as prompt reply, and action. I'm trying to make sense out of Mol’s early career (Stalinist or Hitlerite? Or both? or neither?) and your sources will help a lot. Carptrash (talk) 16:54, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Pantaléon Pelletier

The article Pantaléon Pelletier has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

pair of names that happens to occur in two names, and Wikipedia is not a directory

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. JHunterJ (talk) 14:35, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello YUL89YYZ! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 35 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

The article István Anhalt has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced BLP and stub since create in 2005.

Jubilee♫clipman 03:09, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
