Question

Hey! How are you doing today? I have a question(s). A long time ago I created a T.I. videography page. Some vander came and merged it while I was M.I.A. I asked someone else if I can get this page back, and they said probably not. Is it possible to delete it and create it again or just leave how everything is? Thanks. Are you familiar with User:Chadbryant? About two years ago WP:PW encountered a confirmed sock of Chadbryant known as User:Paul Harald Kaspar. This particular sock's last few edits removed references to anything professional wrestling-related from multiple articles. Recently User:Stan Simmons (contribs) has been engaging in similar activity.... There is evidence that suggests the user could be a sock of User:Paul Harald Kaspar/Chadbryant. Happy Farm image

That particular image, according to the description page, was being used solely to "identify the product" and to "illustrate the appearance of the product"; that is, for illustration only. This is insufficient. Wikipedia only allows screenshots to provide identification and critical commentary. For example, you can post a screenshot and attach it to a paragraph that specifically discusses that screenshot. Yes, but only if you were discussing the specific screenshot. Perhaps a game has a totally unique artistic style, and there's a whole paragraph explaining why that artistic style is new and unique. Then, a screenshot would be appropriate because the paragraph is hard to understand without the screenshot, and you are using the copyrighted image to provide critical commentary. It would not be appropriate to use a screenshot just to show what the game looks like, or just to illustrate the article generally. Aishwarya Rai?

When I visited "https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Friedrich_Nietzsche" today, but before I had logged in, the top of the page had a couple of links titled "New messages" and "last change".

The New Messages link goes to "https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/w/index.php?title=User_talk:192.158.61.140&redirect=no" and says "adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Aishwarya Rai, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability."

To my knowledge, I have not ever visited this page, let alone edited it.

Since this message came to me and was not for me, I thought I should advise you of the possibility that it also did not go to the person who actually made the edit to which you objected.

MSU Interview

Dear Yamla,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

• Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
• Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
• All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
• All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
• The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Violation of Copyright Policy

I ain't violated any copyright policy. Because while uploading the picture in Sherlyn Chopra, I have clearly described that it is a non-free work, and it is only for a fair use. Now, you didn't even read it and deleted the image. I have given clearly, who is the author and owner of it and link to the website. It is clear that manufacturer of company is ANGEL (http://www.angeldigital.com.au/) where page creator has listed Digital Angel (http://www.digitalangel.com/) of United States which can be copyright infringement as they are two different companies. Official sources for National Animals, don't worry

About the National Animal article, we sometimes don't need the official sources or references, the people of a country can tell you what animal it is. For example, the Kazakhs told us that their national animals is the snow leopard and the golden eagle. If you want to know a national animal that is not mentioned on the article. Go to a country and ask the people, what animal is their country's national animal. 84.247.77.20 change the animal from lynx to bison. This is incorrect. Wikipedia requires that information is verified. "All material in Wikipedia mainspace, including everything in articles, lists and captions, must be verifiable. All quotations, and any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, must include an inline citation that directly supports the material." Any sort of reliable source would work. For Canada, for example, we use [4] and the related page, [5]. You can see that these are official government pages. We don't _need_ a government page, though, just a reliable source. If you find an article that you think has incorrect information (or even if you aren't sure, but there's no reliable source), you can (and probably should) challenge it. I believe all of this user's contributions were spam. So long as they no longer plan on posting inappropriate external links on Wikipedia, it would be entirely reasonable to unblock them. To be clear, it'd also be perfectly fine to just assume good faith, unblock them without any such promise, and then just reblock them if they resume spamming. 1952 Alberta election

According to the list of members elected at Alberta_general_election,_1952 two CCF MLAs were elected in 1952, Elmer Roper in Edmonton (provincial electoral district) and Nick Dushenski in Willingdon (electoral district). The fact that Dushenski was elected at the 1952 general election is confirmed here and Roper's election is confirmed here so, regardless of what the summary on the Elections Alberta site says, it does appear that the CCF did elect 2 MLAs in 1952, not 1. Why is there a discrepancy between two reliable and credible sources? I don't know. Given that the book I cite is more detailed, and that every source on Roper and Dushenski agree they were elected in 1952 at the general election, rather than at a subsequent by-election, I suspect it's more likely an error crept into Elections Alberta's online summary. Fair use rational

Re the deletion of image at Elite Dangerous article. I thought the rational was sound. On which grounds did you object and deleted the image? Your del info states "Remove deleted image missing mandatory detailed fair-use rationale". However, i have provided the mandatory rational after it was tagged by you. It's not sufficient to use a fair-use image under that license, solely for illustration. The license shows you have to also use the image to provide critical commentary. For example, if the screenshot is showing something unique and there's a section in the article discussing that unique thing. You stated that the image was used solely for illustration. That conflicts with the license, which states that illustration alone is not sufficient. I do indeed know the game, I was one of the early backers and have many hours of gameplay. It's not immediately clear to me, reading the gameplay section, how you need the image to provide critical commentary. Could you please explain how the image is doing more than simply illustrating the article? The last paragraph elaborates on space stations and planets, and the image illustrates this. And why don't you improve the the image description or the rational when fully aware that the picture shows a common ingame scene, outlined under the gameplay section. I could have written something like a typical scene with a space station where player docks or analyzes planets of newly discovered star systems, but i wasn't aware that any word is used with the scope to delete otherwise valid content. You said the image was solely used for illustration. I agreed, then and now. I don't think you are using the image to provide constructive criticism on that part of the gameplay. As you said it was used solely for illustration, and as I agreed, and as such use is not permitted on the Wikipedia, I removed the image under our fair-use policy. GeForce 1000 Series

I noticed you undid my revision on that page. But it's not about being a crystal ball. If you search for "NVidia Pascal" on Google News, you are going to found all the info I stated, and much of it comes from NVidia's slides. The only "unconfirmed" thing was the ammount of VRAM, but it's usual for high-end video cards to feature the maximum VRAM a tecnology supports (in case of HBM 2, featured on the NVidia Pascal GPUs, that means 32 GB).

Yamla, blocking User:Anonymous_573462i with reference to 3RR wasn't such a good idea. They had reverted three times, not four — count 'em — of course you know consecutive edits count as one — and the last of those reverts was reverting you. You were completely involved. Yes, they were being disruptive, and clueless about how Wikipedia works, and another, uninvolved admin might have blocked them for that, but that's not what happened. Nor had they been given a 3RR warning. And they're new. I considered unblocking, in fact I just now went to their page to do so, but then I noticed their latest comment, "using a proxy until this blows over so it's not a problem really". Completely unacceptable, and it also makes me doubt that they're genuinely new, so handy as they are with templates and proxies. I disagree. In that specific case, the user was claiming that the citation proved the release date was January 3rd, 2016. They weren't adding unsourced information, they were claiming the information they added was sourced. Furthermore, they were doing so after being very explicitly warned not to do exactly that, in the comment in the article. {{uw-unsourced1}} is a great template and definitely useful when someone adds unsourced material. Thanks for that. I knew that it was a user who had previously been blocked for being disruptive, because I'd already seen him post a request to another administrator's talk page for unblocking of his account creation privileges, but he didn't specify in that request what username he had been blocked under — so while that knowledge certainly influenced my responses to him, I didn't know where to look for his prior edit history and thus wasn't able to determine exactly what he had been blocked for. Now that I know, I definitely see patterns in the edit history that are completely consistent with what I was dealing with: a total obsession with Canadian provincial and territorial politicians that I'm not sure I understand if he's from Egypt; a deeply tangled mix of legitimate and unproductive edits that were ridiculously difficult to sort out; a total unwillingness to discuss things if he was challenged; an uncollaborative and pissy attitude; a stubborn insistence on reinserting any edit that was reverted or removed for any reason no matter how many times it was explained to him. Guess it's true what they say about tigers and stripes.

Yeah, there was a death threat in there, but given that the likelihood of actually being able to track down another Wikipedia editor is so vanishingly low I was never seriously worried about it — I was more annoyed by his attitude than anything else. I definitely lost my cool a couple of times, and got ALL-CAPS SHOUTY in my responses to him — understandably, I'll admit. But there was also a point at which I was able to just go totally zen at the ridiculousness of it all, and stay calm even though I was repeating myself for the 758th time.

Thanks again. My life these days has an unfortunate habit of placing me in situations where I have to keep bashing my head against a brick wall, and can't just walk away because either there's nowhere else to walk away to in the first place, or the wall has the power to follow me wherever I walk away to, so I have to just keep bashing and bashing — so it's kind of reassuring to be reminded that my read of the situation wasn't actually divorced from reality.
