HaudenosauneeC

Hi Yamla, I saw your comment at the user's Talk page, and I'm a bit confused. Putting aside the logged out editing for the moment, you said there was no "recent overlap" between HaudenosauneeC and Albertaont. I knew that when I blocked because the master account stopped editing on September 10, and HaudenosauneeC did not start editing until September 16. The thing that gave me pause before blocking was (1) no overlap and (2) the master was not blocked when they stopped editing. Nonetheless, I blocked for several reasons: (1) the master had been blocked twice before he stopped editing, once indefinitely for copyright violations, which was later removed, and more recently for one week for disruption; (2) if the two accounts are the same person, HaudenosauneeC lied when I asked if he had edited with any other accounts; and (3) they edited many of the same pages without declaring the relationship. Finally, again assuming the two accounts belong to the same person, they continue the lie in their unblock request. So, my obvious question is are they the same person?--Bbb23 (talk) 13:18, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

There's a four day gap between when Albertaont edited and HaudenosauneeC was created. There's no direct overlap on IP addresses, but the technical evidence in this case is certainly possible. That is, consistent with it being a sockpuppet, but without a direct overlap. I'll share more via email to you. For those following along, don't worry, I'm well aware of the privacy restrictions I'm under here, I'm not sharing private data, only discussing the sort of things one can see with checkuser data. --Yamla (talk) 14:02, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, Yamla, your comments here and in the e-mail help.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:28, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Good-faith edits reverted

Meta Platforms, Inc. did not exist at the time these products were released. Per prior practice, we display the name of the company as it was upon the product's release. In addition, the Oculus > Meta/Horizon rebranding is expected to take effect in 2022, and will most likely take effect in earnest for hardware upon the introduction of the third-generation Quest. ViperSnake151  Talk  16:45, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Ah ha ha, I was literally writing the following on your talk page. I'll post it here instead: Here, I reintroduced an edit from an anonymous editor (a different person, I promise). I think now that Facebook has rebranded themselves and given that the original link is now a redirect, the anonymous editor was correct to make the change. Note that I say this as a regular editor, not in my role as an admin. You are welcome to revert my change, especially if you then open up a discussion on the talk page. I'll note that you appear to have more experience in this area than I do. :) --Yamla (talk) 16:45, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

user Bill_Williams somehow avoiding ban?

User @Bill_Williams is presently banned from editing American politics articles (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Bill_Williams#August_2020) but is somehow making bad faith edits and vandalizing the article on the 2021 Nicaragua election (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Nicaraguan_general_election). You are the admin who appears to have banned this user. Can you look into this? He is persistently adding comments to the article's talk page accusing me of adding "far left" and "communist" information to articles, which is hilariously untrue (he simply doesn't like the facts or something, who knows). He continues to vandalize the article and revert/blank the edits made by me and other good faith editors. While he is not the only user doing this, his ban is troublesome as it should prevent him from editing this article. Thanks! Asaturn (talk) 01:03, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

I'm not banned from anything. Can you stop vandalizing the article? I got my editing restrictions removed months ago. You have repeatedly added communist propaganda in support of the authoritarian regime that disregards reliable sources. Your edits have not only been reverted by me but multiple other users. Bill Williams 02:15, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
"Sure, Bill. But don't bother appealing. Let's just consider the sanction rescinded and see how you do from here on out. Good luck! Best, El_C 22:10, 24 February 2021 (UTC)" if you need proof that my topic bans were rescinded Bill Williams 02:23, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
NoonIcarus, Lucasdmca, Innisfree987, Alsoriano97 all warned you on the talk page to stop adding or removing things without consensus. Bill Williams 02:18, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
I am adding something to the Administrator's Noticeboard since you have vandalized this article repeatedly after being reverted by myself and all of the aforementioned editors. Bill Williams 02:23, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

I wanted to create the page "Qajar Bathhouse" but noticed that you have deleted the page on the ground that the creator was ban evading. I am relatively new to Wikipedia so I wonder if you would be ok if I created the page. --Salazar the terrible (talk) 08:21, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

User:Dark Clouds of Joy

Hi Yamla, would you mind changing the "sockpuppeter" link at User:Dark Clouds of Joy from User:Darkness Shines to User:Hillbillyholiday? Apparently a person who claims to be Hillbillyholiday has taken responsibility for that sock on an external site, and that identification seems to be entirely plausible in terms of language, tone and mode of operation – much more so than an identification with Darkness Shines. I'm no friend of DS, but I'm pretty sure that sock wasn't him, behaviorally. (Of course I don't know anything about CU evidence, which is why I'll defer to you.) Fut.Perf. 16:56, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

Mind emailing me the link to the external site? I'll then very happily rerun the checkuser and retag as required (and I strongly believe it's required). :) --Yamla (talk) 17:16, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. I've removed the tag for now and will rerun the checkuser check later and retag as appropriate. I appreciate the pointer, FPaS. --Yamla (talk) 17:31, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much for looking at it again, Yamla. I don't recall the background to Darkness Shines' banning, but I understand he has appealed and might hope to do so again, so can I request that if you determine there was a misidentification of the sockmaster, his user page can be restored so he isn't mislabeled as having socked? Yngvadottir (talk) 02:45, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Ritchie333 restored the page but then undid that. It's quite possible that Darkness Shines is indeed banned and should be tagged in that manner, but based on what I see, it's pretty clear everyone who would process an unblock for Darkness Shines already knows what's going on, so I'd be inclined to follow Ritchie333's lead and undo my changes there, so long as the checkuser information shows what we all expect it will. I should have time to complete that reinvestigation later today. --Yamla (talk) 11:18, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Well, he certainly is banned, and he certainly used to be a long-term sockpuppeter, so there's nothing technically wrong about the tags, though the sockpuppeting is now quite old and the latest ban as such was unrelated to it. To the best of my knowledge he hasn't been socking since. Fut.Perf. 12:07, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
@Future Perfect at Sunrise and Yamla: Darkness Shines has logged in saying he isn't socking and can be checked by a CU. Doug Weller talk 16:57, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Oooof.

That's all I have to say, sorry you're having to review those appeals. -- ferret (talk) 22:51, 20 November 2021 (UTC)

It's a rather gutsy attempt to deny something that bleeding obvious, even without the technical evidence. Oh, the joys of unblock patrol. :) --Yamla (talk) 22:52, 20 November 2021 (UTC)

Thanks

@Yamla Respected Yamla, I have no words to thank you. It was really bad when I got blocked for being thought to be a sockpuppet. Can you tell me why I was blocked??? I can say that my behavioral evidence did not keep me aside from thinking me to be a sock, but on the other side, you can see that the sockpuppet investigation had been raised by another sock, which clearly states revenge against editors whom he thinks to be a sock. And all those that Blablubbs said in his talk page Hey Yamla. I think the behavioural evidence currently at SPI (although presented by a sock) is fairly strong in part, see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/DasSoumik#19 November 2021, specifically the bit about the AfD noms ([2][3]) – those two have a very long-running feud ([4][5][6], among other things). But all that I see here is that there had been editor war between two socks, @DasSoumik and @Amkgp, and to say the truth it has not got anything to do with me, though you anyone can easily think me to be a sock DasSoumik, because I sent an article created by Amkgp, for deletion, which would clearly state that DasSoumik is back. But I am telling that it was merely a coincidence, and I knew nothing about this sock business until I got blocked. I also don't see anything wrong with asking questions, in the Teahouse. Anyone can do that, and I don't really think that it can be a factor of same behavior. Everyone new here does the same. I really see that if you had not taken the initiative, then I would have remained blocked forever, since Blablubbs, neither unblocked me, nor did he tell me what wrong thing I had done.

Now please tell me what to be done. All those who guided me has turned their backs on me, since they think me to be a sock. How can I win their heart again?? When will they start talking with me. It was really great that I had you by my side, and I would like to regard you as my friend and elder throughout my Wiki career, if you don't mind. Now one more thing I want to know is, what on Earth is this so called WP:MEAT??? And please explain me what you mean by "Itcouldbepossible requested an unblock. Checkuser evidence shows  Unlikely at best, though I cannot rule out WP:MEAT. That's relevant here, given the action from that account on the deleted article, Rate aththo (though in all fairness, they were PROD'ing that article for deletion)." How should I clear all the bad impressions on me. And also can you please explain me what you said in my talk page - "With the consent of the blocking admin, I have lifted your block. I strongly suggest staying away from Articles for Deletion until you have built up a substantial history of contributions." It was really a pleasure working with you. I really don't have words to thank you, because the more I thank you, the more I will make myself low in your eyes. I also want to thank Blablubbs, for he has the main hand in everything. If he had not given you permission, then I am sure, that you would not have lifted my block. Some suggestions, on how I should approach him. I would really be grateful, if you would kindly answer all my questions, and guide me in this context. From now on, I would always be your student, and you would be my teacher. Thanks again, and take hearty regards from this new student of yours. May your editing career, be like the path of God. Itcouldbepossible (talk) 05:01, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

@Yamla Also to note, @SuperMarioMan deleted my sandbox, thinking me to be a sockpuppet. Is their anyway to get it back?? Itcouldbepossible (talk) 05:02, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
I've undeleted. SuperMarioMan (Talk) 06:18, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

IP from Fornovo talkpage?

Does this editor appear to have the same mannerisms as the IP that continued their personal attacks against me on the talk page of Battle of Fornovo?

User:Jannizzero1 is now canvassing.[1][2][3][4][5] And yet can not find their way to the article talk page. --Kansas Bear (talk) 23:17, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
Because I have WP:CHECKUSER access, I can't really comment on users with respect to IP addresses. :( --Yamla (talk) 13:45, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
I do see that account has been globally locked, though. Probably a good thing! --Yamla (talk) 13:46, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
I was unaware you were a checkuser, I was going by similar editing, comments, etc. Thanks anyway Yamla! --Kansas Bear (talk) 14:57, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
I believe this is a confession by an IP to sockpuppetry. Stating they were Jannizzero1, Pesqara and Olonia. Thoughts? --Kansas Bear (talk) 18:06, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
@Bbb23: addressed the sockpuppetry for Olonia, et.al.--Kansas Bear (talk) 18:09, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
@Kansas Bear: I already blocked that IP, is there something else you're looking for?-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 18:11, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Not definitely. For those following along, I have not used my checkuser tools here. Kansas Bear, this is almost certainly an accurate admission. But it could be a Joe job. We have a couple of long-term vandals who like to pull that sort of stunt. But I expect this case, it's an accurate admission. Again, without using my checkuser access, I think that IP address is one that is easy to change. Some ISP's assign basically static addresses, I don't believe Vodafone Italy does though. So the block may not solve the problem. --Yamla (talk) 18:12, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
Ok, then I will leave this situation in Ponyo and your hands. I would prefer not to get you into any hot water. Thanks, again.--Kansas Bear (talk) 18:17, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

Close could use clarifying

Could you please clarify https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard#Unban_request_from_Hulged_(Wahhid)]. Are you indicating they cannot appeal to AN, to ARBCOM, both, or something else? If you're including ARBCOM in there, I'd urge you to not do so. A) I'm not sure you *can* do that and B) I think the timer ARBCOM set for itself is enough given the discussion was fairly sympathetic. Either way, not making that clear is just setting this user up for more pain. Hobit (talk) 19:02, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

Good point. I'll clarify over on that user's talk page, unless you think I should also update the WP:AN thread. --Yamla (talk) 19:14, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
Probably enough, thanks! Hobit (talk) 21:39, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

New pages

Creating more pages, I have been encountering pages deleted by you due to the creator being a banned user. I have been recreating these pages, referring to your earlier permission that I asked for creating Qajar Bathhouse. But it seems like there are lots of pages deleted by you for the same reason, which need to be recreated. So I am asking if you would mind if I create ANY page deleted by you per G5. --Salazar the terrible (talk) 12:12, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

I was going to edit Wikipedia's List of tallest structures in Africa I intended to edit something about a structure (I did not end up changing said thing because I had misread). I was looking in the revision history to see how to change something on the list. I had saw Devastatedpillar had recently been doing that and I intended to ask him for help and I was surprised to see Devastatedpillar is currently blocked indefinitaly! because I do not understand how Wikipedia works i was reading about the block to avoid making the same mistake. How ever I saw his block and his talk page i realized he had not had any warnings! I also could not find any wrongdoing in his contributions page witch I will link here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Devastatedpillar Please explain to me what he did wrong so I do not make the same mistake. thank you so much Cookiemonstericecream (talk) 01:10, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Skiyomi sock

Hi! Excellent Curveball seems to be the latest sock of Skiyomi; looks a lot like Plagiarism Clarice whom you blocked yesterday. A check seems to be in order. Thanks! JavaHurricane 13:39, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

Yeap! Thanks, blocked. --Yamla (talk) 15:15, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

FYI, I'm assuming that User:Yumla isn't you, so I've blocked them. --Kinu t/c 01:41, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Thanks. Definitely not me! --Yamla (talk) 10:57, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Sock account

Hi Yamla, it looks like CP -84 1219 is another sock of a user previously known as CD -32 9396SSE, Kleuske33, Kepler-78b, UnderThirteenAllower 228784, Join Instagram at Under 13, Norway RX 1700, Norway FX 1400... I can't find a SPI and don't know if there are other, older accounts, but I see that you CU blocked Kleuske33 a few days ago, so perhaps you could check CP -84 1219 as well? The behavioural connections to the other accounts are very strong, for instance here, compared with this previous account, not to mention the identical and idiosyncratic focus on astronomy, Anna Frebel, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, and natural disasters. (I mean, seriously...!) --bonadea contributions talk 13:48, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

Confusing reversions

You seem to have reverted a lot of edits that were done correctly, regardless of what you thought the user's intentions were. Can you go back and undo your reversions so that the articles are less of a mess than they now are? Seasider53 (talk) 14:47, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

These edits were not done correctly, they were done by a ban-evading sockpuppet. I will not reintroduce them. You, as an editor in good standing, are welcome to reintroduce them if you wish to take responsibility for their accuracy. I'm not being passive-aggressive here. If you believe the edits are appropriate, it is appropriate for you to reintroduce them. --Yamla (talk) 16:45, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

Theo Schoon article

Hi there, looking through an IP editor's contributions, I get the sense the editor has been around for a while. Unusually prolific for an IP, which is often a sign of block evasion. And then I come across a surprising edit: restoring of 32k of prose with the edit summary "restore old details". That was basically reverting your August 2019 content removal with the edit summary "Roll back to last version before block-evading sockpuppet got their mits in". Is our sockpuppet back? Schwede66 15:34, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

I’ve answered my own question. Reading User talk:Wallace-it-up, the answer is yes, as that write up reflects recently edited topics. Schwede66 15:54, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Your edit to Haridhos Giri

Could you please explain this reversion? You reverted several seemingly good edits and restored a version of the page filled with nonsense. -Elmer Clark (talk) 06:53, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

That was as per WP:RBI; the original edit was made by a block-evading sockpuppet. --Yamla (talk) 10:44, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

AntiCBNG1

I figured they were a sock. Who's the master?--Bbb23 (talk) 00:16, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

There's no clear master, just a bunch of obvious vandalism accounts. For example, Autoconfsock1, Autoconfsock3, LongTermAbuser1, I am KAGE. The last maybe points to a particular LTA? But I couldn't find any accounts with any significant tenure, which is why I didn't tag any particular sock master. Any thoughts? --Yamla (talk) 09:46, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
The earliest account I can see is Msfssp4, which also has more edits than the more recent ones. Putting aside the garden-variety vandalism, the only thing I see is the stuff about the Among Us meme, and when it comes to Internet memes, I'm useless. Also, one of them mentioned Materialscientist, who blocks a ton of VOA accounts, so perhaps he pissed off an account even earlier than Msfssp4.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:00, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

The massive bias towards Israel

There is a very large bias towards Israel in the article of the War of Attrition and the Yom Kippur War, as well as a lie that the naval commandos of Israel in a war for six days drowned an Egyptian minesweeper before their capture. Russian-Israeli source Please put an end to this blatant bias towards Israel Ever ground (talk) 00:32, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Benny Morris in his book The Righteous Victims does not mention. Allegation that Israeli naval commandos dumped an Egyptian minesweeper before capturing them in an article about six days of war, nor any Russian-Israeli source Ever ground (talk) 00:34, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

I have no idea why you are bringing this to me. I'm not an active editor in that area. --Yamla (talk) 11:08, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
I give you an Anti-Vandalism Barnstar because of what you do to wipe out vandalism and make Wikipedia a better place. Thank you for your efforts and stuff... and I just realized someone else also gave you a Barnstar of Anti-Vandalism... But still, thank you. HenryOmarCCCmango (talk) 08:03, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
