Quick checkuser request[edit]

YellowMonkey, are you online to do a quick unblock check? If so, please reply on my talk page - if this message is a couple hours old when you see it, never mind. Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:05, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome! Could you checkuser User:Inferno, Lord of Penguins and User:Inferno, Lord of the Losers in regards to User_talk:Inferno,_Lord_of_Penguins#Somebody_likes_me...? Penguins claims that his brother is controlling the Losers account, and that the two computers are using different operating systems. Can you confirm that they are different people, please? If so, I'll unblock Penguins. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:12, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He's socking big time. Also Chukonu xbow (talk · contribs) Mario080595 (talk · contribs), Bang boom so ha (talk · contribs) and Djakil (talk · contribs). YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 03:20, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Penguins mentioned in IRC that his brother was making the vandal accounts, and was using a different operating system. Is there anything to confirm this? Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:22, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's rather difficult as all of them have used multiple operating systems and they all overlap on that front. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 03:24, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That complicates things. What about the most recent one, Lord of the Losers? Is it using multiple OS's, or only Vista? (last question, promise - and thanks for doing this) Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:30, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just remembered this. That may be useful, and maybe not. I don't know for sure... J.delanoygabsadds 03:57, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
They're both using multiple and everyone today has used NT. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 04:00, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I unblocked him. No one seems to have bothered to actually look at a) Inferno, Lord of the Losers' username or b) his contributions. The edits have been harassing Lord of the Penguins and vandalizing his userpages and the username is an obvious personal attack. Inferno's claim that it is his brother seems more than probable. --Smashvilletalk 05:28, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Inferno got re-blocked, but I've since unblocked him, as he posted a reasonable explanation of what was going on, owning up to the other accounts you uncovered that he had previously denied any knowledge of. Meanwhile, User:Mario080595 is apparently someone else's account, created by a friend at Inferno's home (and IP address). Would you consent to unblocking him? Since it is a CU block, I wanted to check with you first: I've asked Inferno to ensure that he doesn't allow his friends to edit at his house from now on to avoid the confusion we had the other night. Thanks again for your time with this. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:57, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He has edited from his house as well, a CU should uncover that his home IP is completely different than mine. Thanks! Inferno, Lord of Penguins 22:35, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sure it's fine with me, I provide the raw data and happy if people are willing to interpret it differently. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 03:16, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then, I've unblocked. Thanks again for all of your help with this. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:30, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if you noticed[edit]

But there are a couple of new messages above regarding User:Mario080595 above. I'm saying this because I wasn't sure if you noticed or not. Thanks, Inferno, Lord of Penguins 00:35, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure it's fine with me, I provide the raw data and happy if people are willing to interpret it differently. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 03:16, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks[edit]

Thank you for the trust you placed in me by supporting my RfA (which passed and, apparently, I am now an admin!). I will do my best to continue to act in a way that is consistent with the policies of wikipedia as well with our common desire to build and perfect this repository of human knowledge; and can only hope that you never feel that your trust was misplaced. Hello, a newly created article which IMO sounds like synthesis - and trouble: I used to follow the debates on various history forums and they almost always ended along the line 'my dad is stronger than yours'. What do you think, is this article and topic WP conform or not? Regards Gun Powder Ma (talk) 01:07, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so, but the article survived a recent AFD. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 00:21, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Replied at my talkpage as I will do from now on. I inserted some facts & figures, admitteldly a bit teasing, and it got promptly removed. In my view, there is no comparison possible without making look one as a winner, one as a loser, just because these empires never really interacted in reality. In the long term, two parties will form with each relying on the most positive evaluations of their respective champion to trump the rival. One can write such an article without a single reference misquoted, but in the net result is will be terribly one-sided. Therefore, I am still for a delete. Otherwise, this will be a candidate for a heated long-term dispute, as I have already witnessed in quite a few history forums (these threads run literally for years). Gun Powder Ma (talk) 15:30, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My interpretation of this policy is that it applies to editing, not mere talk page discussion. It talks about reverts and so on -- this guy didn't even make it to the article! A block for talk is out of line in my opinion. Andre (talk) 02:35, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The page says their edits are largely confined to talk-pages, such disruption may not directly harm an article, but it often prevents other editors from reaching consensus on how to improve an article YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 07:16, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. After your 1 week block for User:Donadio expired, he once again is causing trouble in the same article White Brazilian. Last week, he was blocked 2 times for disruption in this same article, but now he is back again with the same disruption. I already reported him here. He seems to have a Single purpose account, dedicated to create conflicts in the same article. Thank you. Opinoso (talk) 18:24, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Military career of Keith Miller[edit]

I've replied on the review page. I have it on my watchlist, so it's probably easiest to keep all discussions there. Lawrence, M.J. (talk) 06:57, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ACHoF[edit]

Just the one this year apparently as it is as expected. A puzzle about why Gregory continues to be overlooked. Perhaps they felt with such a big one, having two would dilute the focus. -- Mattinbgn\talk 05:58, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Any opinion on when Waugh is officially inducted, i.e. do we wait until this evening or is it safe enough to add him now? BTW Your Miller articles are coming together nicely and your blogpost on Chappell and Jordon was fascinating. I had no idea about it at all, where was that documented? Mattinbgn\talk 02:47, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I guess per the WP convention on PM/President, we don't until it's official, but in the case of ACHOF, they'll induct him tonight even if he falls over and dies, so I don't think it is a problem. The South Zone thing is in Mallett's "One of a Kind" which is about Walters, while Chappell has it in "Long Hops and Larrikins" which is a cartoon/anecdote book. I wonder if any non-SA people bothered to write about it. In the Harte Penguin hist of Oz cric and Robinson's On Top Down Under, only the riot in Bombay with the Venkat caught behind, the riot in Calcutta by the communists and the photographer, and the sari-clad woman incident in Bangalore is covered, while the Indians allegedly switching the Delhi pitch in the middle of the game, the Jordon fake dismissal and Gleeson threatening to bash the umpire is only in Mallett. The book is on googlebooks if it isn't at your library. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:59, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah special treatment for Waugh again...unless they mean they aren't ever going to induct Big Bill, Gregory, Turner, Kippax, Walters etc, or somehow think their importance will become magnified in the next few years, which I can't see happening. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:59, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image licensing[edit]

I've requested 'James D Photography (www.jamesdemetrie.com) Copyright 2009' release these images,

Tasman Bridge

Cadbury Chocolate Factory

Bellerive Oval

Launceston Airport

His reply was

"Hi Aaron, it was far from cool in Tassie, it was record breaking heatwave while we were there. I have release all 4 photos, for you for the sole purpose of being put in to wikipedia. Can you please explain a little more as to what my photos will be used for? Could you please credit James D Photography (www.jamesdemetrie.com) Copyright 2009 wherever the photos are used".

Could please explain what license i choose when i upload the images to commons. As he only wants the images used on wikipedia related projects. The only licenses i can find are ones releasing the image to anyone who wants to use it. Thanks. Aaroncrick (Tassie Talk) 11:05, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have I used the right license here Sorry if I'm being fussy but I don't want to do anything wrong. Aaroncrick (Tassie Talk) 11:15, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure that you can't upload pictures to commons if they aren't allowed to be reused or reprocessed. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 00:04, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's what i was thinking. I'll just ask James of he is ok with that. Aaroncrick (Tassie Talk) 00:17, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

YM, a lot of the redlinked editors showing up at Phelps have a similar pattern of older accounts with long periods of inactivity; I believe there have been issues with disruptive or sock-ish editors on that article in the past. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:18, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I should CU them, because I've been reverting as well. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 00:04, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Hi YellowMonkey. I just noticed this. Is there anything to suggest that the website isn't reliable? Cheers, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 17:37, 3 February 2009 (UTC)![reply]

Yeah, it was discussed on WP:RSN a while ago. Archive 15, and on the current board there is a not of criticism about it on different topics. It is a mouthpiece of a Trotskyist activist umbrella organisation. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 22:58, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, that's fair. Thanks for the quick response, 23:35, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

User talk:Icsunonove[edit]

Hello. Would you please take a look here: User talk:Icsunonove #sock puppets and especially #Noclador. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 12:13, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I mistakenly added the wrong reason when it should have been "reverting against consensus". YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 00:23, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Block[edit]

Hi, I was away these days. I noticed in my watchlist the line "YellowMonkey (Talk | contribs) blocked Supparluca (Talk | contribs) (account creation blocked) with an expiry time of 72 hours (disruption, persistent reversion against ocnsensus)". I'm perplexed, because my last edits were this and this. The first is part of a little edit war ended because the other user understood I was right, and the other was an edit that no one reverted as yet. What consensus did I persistently revert against?--Supparluca 14:41, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Italianization, per the message from WMC and complaint at WP:AN3. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 00:23, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have read that section at AN3 but I didn't find any discussion: there's a user who complains about my behaviour, and an admin who says that AN3 is not the right place for that. Could you provide the diffs of the edits that led to the block? I'm confident I can explain them.--Supparluca 07:40, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, right in the page history. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 00:40, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Turtur[edit]

Alpha (the mag) has a crack at us in their Feb edition for not having an article on him...I made a very short stub, but there's plenty on him that we could probs get it to a medium-length GA with a bit of effort. Could you have a look at your library when you go back to see if there's any books on/about/including him? Cheers, Daniel (talk) 06:38, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe, if you have a vote on my poll. Also, yes, the Aussie Gold has profiles of all gold medalists up to 1984, and see Faith Leech and Sandra Morgan for other instances of people who got golds in quartet races and got medals. I got the book for 20c from the library from a chuck-out sale. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 07:16, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(from my talk) Nah, they're not that bad. They're just blokey with a handful of ok-taste bikini pics (ie. the cheerleaders at the beach cricket). There's plenty of errors, I found one in my first read. Daniel (talk) 07:35, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(replying to this) Ha, blackmail! :) Could you photo/scan/otherwise the pages on Turtur? Cheers, Daniel (talk) 07:35, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For sure I can photo it and send it to you. I would cross check the numbers with the Sports Reference website, because this book is a bit lazy with numbers. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 07:46, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. Alpha said that the grand finallists of the A-League in the first three seasons were the top two in each season...which is correct for two seasons, but wrong for the first one, where the Central Coast Mariners made it to the grand final from third position. Daniel (talk) 07:51, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  1. I left a message for you at Talk:Michael Phelps#Octagon agency's efforts to quash the News of the World story
  2. You may wish to revisit John Wilkes Booth FAC on which you previously commented, as it has been revised.

I've reviewed the article and left notes on the talk page. I've put the nomination on hold for seven days to allow the issues to be addressed. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, here, or on the article talk page with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on. Blocks[edit]

Hi YellowMonkey, While I agree with your recent blocks and am grateful for your swift work, I think that you should post block rationales on the editors' talk pages when the block is implemented. This provides an visible notification to other editors that a block has been implemented (especially for non-admins who can't see logs) and can avoid confusion over the rationale for the block, as may have been the case at: User talk:Icsunonove. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 22:47, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again, I'll just refer to the ANI section. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 00:40, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ching Hai[edit]

Howdy. Please exercise some discretion with reverts on [Ching Hai] (providing an edit summary in particular) as I really am keen to ensure there is a semblance of consensus despite the apparent bias from supporters of Ching Hai. 59.167.63.132 (talk) 01:57, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grizxzle, that guy is annoting. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:51, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why the block?[edit]

I am reviewing this block, and I don't really see how it is justified. I do not think the AfD nomination alone warranted a block. Perhaps there is something I am missing? Chillum 05:20, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No you aren't missing anything, although given this user's recent behaviour in general it might have subconsciously made me take a harder line. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 01:41, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recent behavior eh? Okay. Thanks for the info. Chillum 01:55, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AFD[edit]

Harvey family[edit]

They're definitely not cousins. Robert did however have a brother who played briefly at St Kilda called Anthony who would warrant a mention as he would thus be Merv Harvey's grandson. Anthony also captained the Norwood Football Club to the 1997 SANFL premiership. If you want to add that information to the article some time I'll make a page for Anthony under Anthony Harvey (footballer). Cheers. Jevansen (talk) 06:09, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, just a small piece of info would do please... Thanks, YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 06:15, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I came here with the intention of telling you the exact same thing as Jevansen already has. On a slightly related note, I have Neil Harvey's autobiography floating around somewhere so I'll try to dig that out and see what more I can add. --Roisterer (talk) 08:36, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Great departure of Buddha[edit]

Hi Yellowmonkey, Please go through Talk:Gautama_Buddha#The_Great_Departure. I think you can help me in this matter as you are a member of wikiproject Buddhism and an active contributor to the article. Ganesh Dhamodkar (Talk) 07:41, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also go through this edit, which I had done about two years ago. Ganesh Dhamodkar (Talk) 07:50, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ambedkar seems to be a bit non-mainstream though, although frankness, the traditional account is not really supposed to be a literal account. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 00:37, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Block review[edit]

As a courtesy notice, could you give a rationale for the block against Yousaf465 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log), who you blocked for 55 hours ‎for "disruption on terrorism articles." The user is requesting additional commentary. Thanks, seicer | talk | contribs 13:32, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I hope there's something I'm not seeing about this block because I reviewed every edit of Yousaf465 in the last week on terrorism-related articles, and not one of them we "disruptive." The only edits I think you might be talking about are the ones where he modifies the infobox in a way you disagreed with. While I think your approach is better, I also think this is an editing dispute, and one, I might add, that has not been discussed on the talk page, at least, not within the last 3 archives. Furthermore, Yousaf made the change once and did not revert when others disagreed. There was no warning, and other of his edits on terrorism-related articles were clearly helpful. I am also interesting in understanding the reasoning behind this block. Chillum 01:48, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
