Village pump issue[edit]

What is your relationship to the plainboards site? Equazcion (talk) 15:16, 10 Mar 2012 (UTC)

Your behaviour is being discussed[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.

I strongly suggest you actually pay attention to this, as the next likely step is you being blocked from editing Wikipedia. → ROUX  15:17, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 31 hours for edit warring on Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals). Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. I have no doubt that you came to Wikipedia in good faith, and thought that your suggestion was a perfectly good one. However, there have been several problems with your editing. I will try to explain what they were, in the hope that doing so will help you understand why you have been blocked, and help you avoid such problems happening again, after your block expires.

Firstly, what you have been suggesting is using Wikipedia to attract visitors to your web site, i.e. to promote your web site, which is against Wikipedia policies. The use of the word "spam" may not have been helpful, as you probably did not think of what you were doing in those terms, but whatever words are used, use of Wikipedia for promotion is unacceptable.

Secondly, when you have encountered other editors who have disagreed with you, you have accused them of such things as "vandalism", "bullying", being "terrorists", "harassing", being "trolls" and so on. I have looked at the editing of the editors in question, and it seems to me that they, like you, have been acting in good faith. Clearly they have a different view as to what is helpful to Wikipedia than you, but that does not make them terrorists or vandals. In a collaborative project such as Wikipedia there will inevitably be people who disagree with one another about what is best. When you disagree with another Wikipedian, the thing to do is to explain in a civil and courteous manner why you think they are mistaken, and be willing to discuss their and your views. Editors who turn angrily on others and accuse them of evil intent are likely to be seen as disruptive and unhelpful, even if they mean well. Remember that we are all volunteers, and none of us has to put up with barrages of personal attacks.

Thirdly, you repeatedly restored your version of a page in the face of consensus against you. If every time different editors who had different views just kept going back and reverting to their own versions of pages, so that the page kept getting changed back and forth endlessly, then the result would be a chaotic situation which would be no help to anyone. That is why we have a policy against edit warring, and it is because of your persistent edit warring that you have been blocked.

When the block expires, please bear in mind that when you disagree with other editors you should discuss your disagreements, not just try to force your view across by endlessly repeating the same edits, and also remember to be civil to all other users, even ones you disagree with. Finally, when your block has expired you are welcome to contact me on my talk page if you want further help or advice on how Wikipedia works. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:50, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your feedback[edit]

I can't add more to the message above this. Read it over carefully and remember your opinion of what's sensible might not be shared by others. Wikipedia works on consensus.
