Advice for selecting new article topics

Hey @YordleSquire, I noticed your first article ended up at AfD (Articles for Deletion) and just wanted to tell you that this happens to a lot of new editors (one of my first articles on a state special election was deleted), so don't be discouraged. If you want to keep writing new articles, you should read the general notability guidelines and try to select topic you think meet the criteria there.

If you want to keep writing articles about politicians, you should read the politician notability guidelines. When I first started writing biographies, I focused on people elected to the State House and Senate in my home state because elected state legislators almost always meet WP:NPOL and aren't likely to be AfDed. Most states are missing pages for state legislators, so I recommend that as a place to start if you like writing biographies.

Whatever topic you choose, you should try and see if you can find a topic specific notability guideline and meet those criteria, and when in doubt you can always meet the general notability guidelines. Good luck with your future editing! TulsaPoliticsFan (talk) 18:09, 17 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi YordleSquire! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Mike Johnson (Louisiana politician)‎ that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. AFD comments

Hello, YordleSquire,

For some reason, your comments on AFD discussions are appear oddly and can be seen as disrupting the discussion. Look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abdul Karim Ahmad (2nd nomination) for example, your remarks are spread over several lines, there are unexpected line breaks and it is disruptive compared to other comments in the discussion. AFDs are not a place to be visually creative, the editors who participate there often review dozens of deletion discussions, their time is limited and the formatting should be predictable and the same for all editors. You may have cleverness in the argument you put forward to Keep or Delete an article but please just adhere to the standard reply format. Thank you. Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 07:04, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
