Bulls/Blackhawks/Rangers[edit]

There's only one reason why I've been inserting this into the Chicago Bulls article. I do mention that the Blackhawks and Bulls were in their respective league's finals in 1992. The only reason I mention the New York Rangers and the Knicks in 1994 is because Mike Keenan was coach of the Blackhawks in 1992 and was coach of the Rangers in 1994. During 1994, he was able to draw many parallels between the two dramas, having had experiences in seeing both NBA and NHL teams from one city in their respective league's finals in the same year. -- SNIyer12, (talk), 19:04, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There's only one reason why I mention Mike Keenan about the Bulls in 1992: In 1994, when he coached the Rangers to the Stanley Cup, the Knicks were in their finals. Then, he was able to draw from his many experiences seeing both NBA and NHL teams from one city in their respective league's finals in the same year. Phil Jackson was right about the Rangers Stanley Cup being a great part of a great chapter in New York sports history. He knew that Keenan was experiencing what he experienced in Chicago two years before. -- SNIyer12, (talk), 19:19, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The main source I'm citing is "Spring of '94," which aired in MSG Network, as well as my own thoughts for all of this. I followed both dramas in which both NBA and NHL teams from one city were in their respective league's finals in the same year. (Chicago in 1992, New York in 1994) During the drama in New York when the Knicks and the Rangers made it to their respective league's finals, Keenan drew from all his experiences seeing both NBA and NHL teams from one city in their respective league's finals in the same year that it was going to be a great chapter in a city's sports history. He knew from his experiences in Chicago that the Rangers' first Stanley Cup win in 54 years would be that. You have to keep in mind that he was coach of the Blackhawks in 1992 and the Rangers in 1994. -- SNIyer12, (talk), 15:36, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The only reason why I mention the Blackhawks in the article on Phil Jackson and the 1992 Blackhawks in every article associated with the 1992 Bulls is because the coach of the Blackhawks in 1992, Mike Keenan, was able to draw from all his experiences from the Bulls/Blackhawks drama during the 1994 drama in New York when the Knicks and the Rangers were in their respective league's finals that year. Phil Jackson said the same thing. -- SNIyer12, (talk), 20:59, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Houston Rockets[edit]

There's only one reason why I mention the New York Rangers 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks in Game 7 of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals in Houston Rockets articles. I want to make clear that their win in Game 7 of the NBA Finals denied New York from having both NBA and NHL titles in the same year, as the Rockets defeated the Knicks. I also try to make clear that both the Knicks and the Rockets got some inspiration from the Rangers win. -- SNIyer12, (talk), 19:40, 2 March, 2009 (UTC)

Downwards and his anonymous IPs[edit]

What can we do about this guy? He uses two anonymous IPs, one he uses to delete entire articles, the other he uses to blank articles. He marks a reference tag, then he uses another IP to blank the article. Then he goes back and says the article should be deleted. With his Downwards accoun he reverts, reverts, reverts, reverts, reverts, endlessly. he marks articles for whatever reason a certain way (NEVER EVER anything but removing material) and then he reverts back to that edit permanently. Even if there is no legit reason. And if someone has added anything to an article he reverts over that too.

EVERY SINGLE FREAKING TIME he leaves a nasty and rude and insulting message in his edit summaries. If you follow his Downwards account and his two anonymous IPs he literally vandalizes hundereds of articles, insults dozens and dozens of people, break site rules on basically a daily basis, and somehow he gets away with it. If you report it to mods nothing ever happens. I and many others have reported this so many times and nothing is ever done about it.

I am really fed up and aggravated and frustrated with this guy at this point. Not to mention how he follows behind people and reverts all their edits. I have asked for some mods to at least please explain how this is allowed to go on and not even has that brought back a response. Can you please tell me what is the deal here and why this is allowed?

Hello, I would like to try to take the article to FAC once the one for Phil Hartman is closed. Would you mind taking a look at it? It's already been copyedited by Scartol so it should be in pretty good condition. Thanks, Scorpion0422 21:46, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

here is the article about her Scientology (it doesn't mention the year she joined or when she got married but those have been confirmed by several sources). If you can't work on it right now, can you copy the text to word or something? I want to delete the page asap. -- Scorpion0422 19:47, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I found some context for the Twilight Zone as well. The character she plays gets trapped in a cartoon world (it's actually based on the Twilight Zone episode that was parodied in Bart's segment of THOHII). I added that to the page. -- Scorpion0422 20:17, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I switched the bit to "She has said that before becoming involved with the church she was depressed that she did not have a "committed relationship", and wanted to get married and have children." Does that work better? -- Scorpion0422 13:59, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is there anything else that hasn't been addressed yet? If not, I'm going to nominate it. -- Scorpion0422 20:56, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, in "Old Money", which aired in 1991. However, it wasn't the first time it was publicly revealed that Bart was voiced by a woman because an interview cited in the article - "Bart Simpson's secret: he's a woman" - was published July 15, 1990. -- Scorpion0422 21:11, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How is this? Alternatively, the bit about her being the only cast member professionally trained could be moved to being the caption for that one image of her. -- Scorpion0422 21:26, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright issues, want to help?[edit]

If you're not entirely burnt out on copyright issues after the work you've been doing on Mgreason's contributions, I hope you'll consider tossing your hat in at Wikipedia:WikiProject Copyright Cleanup, which I've just launched in part to help with such matters. Even if it's a long time before you feel like taking on a massive violation issue again, you'd certainly have some insight to share on the process. :) In case you're interested, there's a cleanup effort currently underway that rather dwarfs the one we're plugging at: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Gastropods/Subpage for organizing CopyVio Cleanup. Honestly, I think ours is the more challenging task, since it involves multiple sources and the articles may or may not infringe. But for numbers, they trump. They have over a thousand!

Whether or not you have time and interest in helping out at the new project, I just wanted to let you know that I still appreciate the work you've done on Mgreason. If I'd have had to face that mess alone, I'm not sure I would have made it. :/ I'm fairly optimistic now, as the list is vastly diminished! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:49, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to note in addition that I've moved Mgreason's contribs from my sandbox to Wikipedia:WikiProject Copyright Cleanup/Major project. Maybe more will assist with it. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:04, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago as Second City[edit]

Regarding the "Second City" claim: the Encyclopedia of Chicago seems to credit Liebling with coining the phrase in the 20th century, although I suppose it's possible that the term was in use earlier. The Conference Finals have been in seven-game format from 1947 to 1948 and from 1958 to present. The Conference Semifinals have been in this format since 1975." the "Spam" on the AC Green site[edit]

Hey there. The post on AC Green's page was not actually spam. He actually is on a speaking tour for this company, and gave a presentation at my college. He was supposed to give an inspirational talk and instead we had to listen to the stupid financial destination sales pitch. I wanted to post his affiliation with this company on Wikipedia because apparently the company has cleaned out or tried to cover up any easy connection with him or that they are a multi-level marketing scheme. The talk organizer at our university, amazingly enough, was duped into thinking he would give a legitimate talk. Please allow this edit to stay up, so that other universities and groups can be aware that he may very well advertise stupid things like this during his speaking engagements. For proof, go to their site, in about three seconds an option to watch a video of him selling their product, a "personal concierge service." comes up on the flash intro. I could use harsher language in describing this company, but I don't want the entry to removed because of bias, and since the company seems to be pretty shifty, i don't want to give them cause to have it removed.

Articles about concurrent finals series in basketball and hockey[edit]

I had created two articles Bulls–Blackhawks Finals series of 1992 and Knicks–Rangers Finals series of 1994, but after they both were nominated for deletion, redirected them to their respective arenas.

When we had this article about the arenas hosting both NBA and NHL championship series in the same year, which was later deleted, you said about keeping such articles I created for each final series. Are you still OK with it, or should it be directed to the article of the arena that hosted it? I would like your input. SNIyer12, (talk), 20:31, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I got your response about the article about the arenas (List of arenas to host NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Finals in the same year). However, that article was deleted. It's up to you if you want to have it recreated. I prefer the individual articles, as that can be better, and give an accurate description about paths to finals, and about the finals itself. Hi, sorry, I should have probably sent you a message in addition to relating my rationale in the edit summary. Because of the character limit in edit summaries, I may have come across as curt, but that wasn't my intention. I think the paragraph on Gay's recruitment and the controversy it garnered are important to include. I changed it from an actual subsection to a paragraph and think it is generally more balanced now. I don't want to over-emphasize it in the article, but it is bound to have that appearance when the rest of the article could reasonably be expanded to a considerable degree. Do you agree that the current revision is a fair compromise? Strikehold (talk) 09:13, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your hard work on BLPs in general, and at User:Lar/Liberal Semi specifically, is much appreciated. That page has now been sunsetted (and I hope never to need to bring it back) but the work you did there (whether by bringing articles forward, reviewing them, or protecting them... or even by questioning or criticizing the process!) was of great help to the project. See you in the trenches! ++Lar: t/c 01:48, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My votes here and rationale for your further consideration[edit]

Hello Zagalejo. I have cast my votes at the above-named location - scroll down to my name at the end of the list. I would not normally come to your page to tell you of such an edit but in this case I have used a particular rationale and method which I think is deserving of your further consideration; and so I ask you to re-visit and make further comment if you wish. If there is some other way that I can assist or if you have any further questions please come to my talk page at any time. With thanks --VirtualSteve need admin support? 04:29, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you copyedit this article for me? Thanks—Chris! ct 02:34, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I planned to nominate it for GA and would like someone c-e it first.—Chris! ct 05:32, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What you said is quite right actually. It is hard to write a GA for an active athlete.—Chris! ct 06:05, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you look at Dennis Johnson‎ then? It is already a GA and I have sent it to peer review for more comments. Thanks—Chris!c/t 02:43, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you copyedit Double (basketball) for me? I think it is looking good. Almost everything is sourced.—Chris!c/t 01:58, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've addressed all of your suggestion. Can you take a look again? If there is no more outstanding issue, I will nominate for GA soon. Thanks for your help.—Chris!c/t 00:26, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestions[edit]

I placed the "Good Article" standard at the beginning of the project as a benchmark for them to be aware of and begin thinking about as their ultimate goal. I realize its a high mark but I want to set the bar high at the beginning and lower it as necessary.

As for the plagiarism (or close to it), that is a constant struggle and one I am addressing as best I can as it happens. It occurs with regular papers and assignments as well. Students are very comfortable with copying from what they find online and it takes quite a lot for them to understand how to put things in their own words. One large part of it is that they got away with it so much in grammar school it comes as a complete shock when the high school teachers show them the correct way. We have a lot of damage to undo.

Overall this is big learning experience for me as well as the students. I have been spending a lot of time learning the ins and outs of Wikipedia and I still have a lot to learn. I appreciate the suggestions and I think I'm going to implement the one about the sandbox. Thanks for that. MrSilva (talk) 20:20, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Correct Old Town Boundaries[edit]

You had invalid boundries for the old town triangle (check http://www.oldtowntriangle.com) and Old Town which has a western boundary of Larrabee Street. the Lincoln Central Neighborhood is bounded on the west by Halsted, not Old Town. I know this, because I live in Lincoln Park! Lincoln Ave. is northwest of the Ogden right-of-way, so your boundries are invalid and everyone in Chicago and specifically the Lincoln Park Neighborhood knows the correct boundaries of Old Town and the Triangle!

BBl Cup[edit]

The BBL did already have its cup on September 26th. Zalgiris beat Rytas 83-78. Here is a summary [2] Wiki Greek Basketball talk 12:28, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contemporary Authors Online[edit]

Hi. What's the link to Contemporary Authors Online you used on John Christgau? The reference reads "Retrieved on October 18, 2009" to there's no link to retrieve it. --Damiens.rf 22:46, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should put the link in the article anyway. At least someone few people would be able to verify it. --Damiens.rf 11:58, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DisneyRah's copyright infringement[edit]

Hi. Just so you know, that wasn't DisneyRah's first instance of copyright infringement. I had to warn him/her about this back in July, but DisneyRah removed that warning from his/her Talk Page. So if you want to upgrade your warning, now you know. Nightscream (talk) 06:40, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected TyrusThomas4lyf sock[edit]

I noticed you gave Hoops gza (talk · contribs · logs) a welcome note. I suspect, however, this editor is already well acquainted with wikipedia, and has made his presence known in the past in a rather disruptive manner. More precisely, I would argue that Hoops gza is a likely TyrusThomas4lyf sock-puppet. It's fairly clear that this user has migrated from IPs 75.22.238.193 (talk · contribs · logs) and 99.145.211.131 (talk · contribs · logs), which are both Chicago based IPs (as were nearly all TyrusThomas4lyf socks). Furthermore, these accounts all exhibit standard TyrusThomas4lyf editing characteristics . . . except this current incarnation is not edit warring and appears to be making non-controversial edits (so far). But I would still recommend keeping your eye on this particular editor. Myasuda (talk) 02:45, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

QUESTION[edit]

Is the Kiddieland website going to close? Bob.--76.224.121.52 (talk) 20:31, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They'll probably shut down the website eventually, once they've sold everything off. But I'm not connected to anyone at Kiddieland, so I don't really know anything for sure. If you go to the Internet Archive, you can access old versions of the site, going back to 1999, so the information will never go away completely. Zagalejo^^^ 20:41, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tom Abernathy/Abernethy[edit]

Growing up in Indiana, I had always known it as Abernathy. (I know...just that in itself isn't enough to say it's Abernathy).

The Laker's website shows it as Abernathy (http://www.lakerstats.com/playerprofile.php?playerid=26) Any kind of search on the Indiana University website will list it as Abernathy. The Bloomington Herald lists it as Abernathy (http://www.heraldtimesonline.com/hoosiershq/historia/1976/?sid=41) Dick Vitale has it as Abernathy on at least one article (http://espn.go.com/dickvitale/vcolumn050118-Illinois.html) He was one of two technical advisors to the movie Hoosiers - credit is listed as Abernathy (the other was Tom McConnell) (this credit rolls at about the 1:53:21 point in the movie). I have an old book from 1982, "Hoosier Hysteria" by Bob Williams. It has a picture from when he played at South Bend St. Joseph's high school - it's listed as Abernathy there.

Without a birth certificate or from the player himself, I don't know if anything is definitive either way. The interesting thing I did find though is when I googled "Tom Abernethy Hoosiers" google's first response is "Did you mean: Tom Abernathy hoosiers?" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mobycat (talkcontribs) 06:55, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Beethoven's relatives[edit]

Just to let you know that both articles have now been re-listed, with the request to clarify each editor's present position. --Jubilee♫clipman 00:02, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AFD of your article[edit]

I have nominated Derek Hood (basketball), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Derek Hood (basketball). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Chicago news personality birth dates[edit]

Greetings Zagalejo and thanks for your note. I've started adding source data for the Chicago news personality birth dates that I added a short time ago. I mostly got them from old Tribune and Sun-Times stories (gossip column mentions, mostly) that have the birth day and year in them. Jarvishunt (talk) 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Basketball positions[edit]

I'm sick of being lectured on such nonsense as this. All you want to do is pad your edit count. Don't waste the time of people that want to contribute. And stop making your errors the problems of other editors. --Wiki Greek Basketball (talk) 12:53 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Basketball positions[edit]

I'm going to request all the pages be moved to their PROPER names. Because people like you can't even get the most basic facts right. --Wiki Greek Basketball (talk) 12:53 22 December 2009 (UTC)

No you are not correct. Basketball positions are ALWAYS capital. For some reason you and a few anal retentive people here can't grasp that or that you are wrong. No problem. I'm having the pages moved. And if not I'm taking a mod position and moving them myself. --Wiki Greek Basketball (talk) 12:59 22 December 2009 (UTC)
What you are proposing to do could actually be considered disruptive editing of the project. The names are properly punctuated how they should be and should not be capitalized. ArcAngel (talk) 06:55, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but you are also wrong. I was a professional player and coach. I know what I am talking about on this. The positions are always capitalized, both the first and last word. You are not a "center", you are a "Center". You are not a "Point guard", you are a "Point Guard". Just because some people can't understand that isn't my problem. You refer as the coach to your player as "The Point Guard" or "Our Point Guard of the team", or "My Point Guard", etc. The positions are definitely capitalized basically universally. In the context of the game of basketball and in the context of teams they are used as names. The 1,2,3,4,5 is the position, and "Point Guard" is what the player who plays the 1 is called and it is the proper name of that player when he is on a basketball team. And believe it or not, sports sites capitalize them. I know that must be a shock to you. Let me explain it as PG, SG, SF, PF, C - that is how it is written. The position "Point Guard" is written as PG and not written as "point guard" or "Point guard" as Wikipedia insists. Clearly, the people writing some of the sports articles have actually nothing to do with sports themselves. But whatever. --Wiki Greek Basketball (talk) 11:18, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Zagalejo! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 5 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 944 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
