Unfortunately, I've got to sit out of this one. My parents probably wouldn't be up for the whole meet-people-I-met-on-the-internet thing. Sorry, Zapptastic (talk) 01:49, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Zapp
I've been having problems with an anonymous editor of an article I created (Phat pants) and was hoping you could either advise me or just point me in the right direction of where to go next. The editor has been making excessive incorrect gender references including links to the articles on "men" and "boys" for those that dont know what a man or a boy is. When I add links to support the article they remove or change them. They continually add comments that are untrue and contradict the rest of the article. As well as the factual errors the changes they make are riddled with spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors. There are a number of articles that are all receiving the same treatment from this person.
As a friend of mine would say:

"(There's a steering wheel down my pants), Its driving me nuts."

I'm having trouble finding my entry because I live both in the UK and the United States. I initially signed up and made an entry in Wikipedia when I was in the UK, and now when I am in the UK, I can find my entry just by searching for it on the home page. However, when I go to the States, I find I have to log on first before I can find my entry. Are the data bases for the two countries completely separate? What if I would like to have my entry available to all users on the US site as well? Also, at what point do articles become generally available? I noticed that at first, the one I wrote was only viewable through my user account, but now it seems, at least most of the time to be accesible through the general UK home page.

thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Emiko Terasaki (talkcontribs)

That's suprising to me. There are no seperate databases for the English Wikipedia, it's all just, well, the English Wikipedia. I assure you that if your article is available when you're in the UK, it's also available to people in the USA. I live in the USA, if you'd like me to check and see if I can find it, I can do that, I'll just need the article name / term you're using to search for it. This seems strange to me, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Maybe just some server problems, or maybe a typo on your part, or whatever. Please don't hesitate to ask with any more questions. If this problem persists, you may wish to talk to a Developer. -Zapptastic (talk) 19:14, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The article I wrote was "Hisako Terasaki." I was surprised that there seemed to be a difference between the two countries, but as you say, it might be a server problem. I will continue trying. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Emiko Terasaki (talkcontribs)

I found it, living in the USA. It's located at Hisako Terasaki. Without the period. A direct link is [1]. Hope this helps, Zapptastic (talk) 20:36, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

zapptastic,

I've only tried out one little stub, but I'm really enjoying this. Can you point me to the web page where it explains exactly how to insert the little numbers for citations? Figured it would save someone some trouble. thanks,

You could put a wikify or cleanup tag on it, and another more experienced editor will be around to help out. Some of the data on that page is unnecessary, and it just needs to be cleaned up a bit. I need to do something at the moment, but I'll be around and see what I can do with it soon. Hi its me again i havent been logged on to wikipedia for a while and read your comment in my disscussion

"Recreating deleted material is considered vandalism. Therefore I wouldn't suggest recreating your previous articles. As to why Tumbler has one and yours don't, I really can't explain - seems consensus around here was that Tumbler should have one and yours shouldn't. I read that page and was not sure xactly where to post if i wanted to apply for undeletion of the articel is it possible for you to give me a direct link as to where to post the request? if so i would greatly apreciate it. With the game now on ABS I dont find it fair, and bias that Tumbler can have one and BallerX cannot and would like to post my concern to somone that can allow me to recreate the page on it.

Thanks a million

Hey. I'm sorry I've been so inactive with our admin coaching recently. There's been way too much stuff going on IRL, some of which I'd rather not put on the wiki. If you send me an email, I'd be happy to tell you all the details, but please know that I'm not just blowing you off. I'm not sure how much time I will have for Wikipedia in the next few weeks (could be a lot, could be a little), but I'll probably try to start a rough draft of an RfA nomination for you. I saw that you were getting some project-space and project talk edits at WP:RFD and a few other places. Please keep that up, those are crucial to a good run at adminship. Thanks for all your patience. EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 16:18, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem - I totally understand. It happens all the time. I'm assuming you drafting a RfA nom means that you think I'm good for another shot. If you need help writing it up, whatever, let me know. Good luck with whatever's going on in real life! Later, Zapptastic (talk) 20:45, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature for your (apparently automated) welcome messages such as on User_talk:Cprockhill always display the current date and time or when the page was last cached. At first this was very confusing as it said you had just edited it but I could only find an edit many days ago. You may want to change your automatic welcome message. You could change the already existing ones but there are quite a few so I don't know if that's feasable. 128.227.191.77 07:01, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, it was screwed up for a long while, without me knowing it. I fixed that two days ago, and it works correctly now. Also, I've stopped using <div class="usermessage"> per request. If someone feels strongly about it I would be fine with going back and changing the ones I've already placed, but I suspect that would disrupt more constructive editing activity for a while. -Zapptastic (talk) 12:08, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!
Thank you very much for your comments on my recent Request for Adminship. The request was ultimately unsuccessful - which wasn't entirely surprising - and so I'll be taking special care to address the concerns that were raised before running again.

I'm anxious to improve my work generally, even if it doesn't result in a future adminship, and so please don't hesitate to leave any further feedback or comments at my talk page. Thanks!

This is concerning a message you sent me about my creation of a page on my sensei, Stephen Ohlman. You Said it would be best to avoid calling someone by their title. I would gladly accept that but believe after all someone's hard work if they are they deserve the honor of being called sensei at least after their name. Also I would be happy to create a page on Ando Sensei.

PS I have the permission of my sensei (stephen ohlman) to post or directly paste any article used on our dojo website.

I don't understand why this is a problem - what do you mean about those scripts? I'll stop using it for now, but I would appreciate an explanation. Also, what "other abuses" were you talking about? I'm sorta confused, but I'll put the welcoming on pause for the time being. Thanks, later, Zapptastic (talk) 19:12, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
 • Hi there Zapptastic. I'm not sure what "other abuses" Alphax is referring to, but please keep in mind that the CURRENTDATE tag in your VP-assisted signature interferes with date reporting, since it shows the current date instead of the edit date. --Alan Au 07:23, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome. Ummm I do have a quick question (and I'm not quite sure whether I should be asking it here) but does each entry/name/title have to be unique. I want to start an entry/page but it is a common word that can have many different meanings depending on the context. The other meanings are there but not the one that I would like to see. How do I start a page that is the same word/name as other existing word/names? Tiggertrouble 14:04, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good question! To answer your first question, yes, each article has to have a unique title. However, if there are two men named John Doe, here's how you figure it out. Find out a defining characteristic of each person that is also well-known generally. For John Doe the pilot, you create his article under John Doe (pilot) and for the blacksmith you create his article under John Doe (blacksmith). Get it? That's how it works for biographies. It's basically the same thing for other articles. The basic format is Article Title (what it is). Hope this helps, feel free to ask with any more questions! -Zapptastic (talk) 20:50, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It looks pretty good to me, it's already published, although it does need some work, as the tags at the top of the article suggest. The first thing I would recommend doing is to make it more proseful, easier to read, not so chopped up in bits and pieces. -Zapptastic (talk) 22:10, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your fast reply. When I look for the published version I always find this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NITYA_SEVA. Where do I have to search for the published version. Above your other recommends I´ll have to ask my indian wife, who ist still in India, and who is much better in english. Will do it better! Thanks. Regards Claus NITYA SEVA

I guess I don't know what you mean by "published"... there is currently no paper version of Wikipedia, the online version is it. If you found your page, NITYA SEVA, and it exists, that's as "published" as it gets. Sorry if I don't understand... -Zapptastic (talk) 22:27, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

With published I ment placed in Wikipedia without restrictions and doubts. So that you´ll find the final version. I am not aware about all that things. Wikipedia is just a new area for me. I am just confused because I don´t know how to place a small and simple articel in Wikipedia. A lot of help will be needed. Sorry for all the efforts. And thank you. - NITYASEVA 01:25, 22 August 2006

Well, if you mean having the tags cleaned up, then all that needs to be done is fixing what they say. However, there really aren't "final versions" of articles here - they are under a constant state of improvement and expanding. However, a goal for many authors of articles is to bring them up to featured status, which is as close to a "final" version as one gets. Hope this helps, Zapptastic (talk) 12:40, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your informations. I´ll work something out. Best wishes, Claus D. von der Fink, NITYA SEVA, 21:25 23 August 2006

Id like to complain about the Deletion of the article Stick Figure Empire, because shouldnt this site allow people to put in articles about their interests and other peoples interests? im not the only person who is interested, me and, if my counting is correct 500,000 other poeple like the Stick Figure Empire, and yet the page was deleted. I already tryed the queen of deletions fang ali, and she did nothing and insulted me further by saying she was right and i was wrong, so fughetaboutit. i want that page back, or at least a copy of it sent to me at: khmi6@verizon.net.

Thank you sir.

I'm sorry, but I've got to side with Fang Aili on this one. I haven't seen the content of the article, but I trust her judgement. You may post a request at Wikipedia:Deletion review if you wish to have your page undeleted, or if you wish the content sent to you. Yes it is, thank you! Apparently I had one already from the Hindi Project. So easy, eh? I have another question that you may be able to answer.

Who runs Wikipedia, and how are they chosen? With the elections here in the US coming soon, I am eager to see the Wikipedia equivalent if there is one. Yankee Rajput 01:29, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Wikipedia is owned by the Wikimedia Foundation. That group was founded by Jimmy Wales. The Wikimedia Foundation has a Board of Directors. One could also say that Wikipedia is run by the stewards, bureaucrats, and administrators, although that's a less accepted view - they just have more technical powers. Basically, Wikipedia is run by the members themselves, who are the people deciding on policies and such. As for administrators and bureaucrats, they are chosen through a community-approval process, at WP:RFA. Stewards are voted on by people with an account at the meta-wiki, the main place where the going-ons of the whole foundation happen. At the moment, there are elections for the Board of Trustees. Hope this answers your question! -Zapptastic (talk) 01:54, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the kind welcome, I will explore your links with great interest. Let me know if I can assist you in the future, and I will let you know the same. One more thing, what is that box of yours on your user page? How can I get one of those? Yankee Rajput 00:06, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you're here! I hope those links are useful to you, a lot of people find them useful. Just ask if you need any help with anything! About the box on my user page, at User:Zappa.jake, that's a userbox. Recently I changed my username from Zappa.jake to Zapptastic. Because my welcome message is signed from my old account, Zappa.jake, it has his signature in it. When you click on it, it brings you to my old userpage. Zappa.jake is now a sock puppet of mine, and is marked so with that userbox, which is produced by typing your main username. You can browse a wider list of userboxes at WP:UBX. Is that the answer you were looking for? Hope I've helped, Zapptastic (talk) 01:18, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zapptastic (I hope I am putting this in the right spot) My name is Playa1234 and I was wondering if it was you who kept having my entry on BallerX put for deletion. Although it is not long it is a definiton of the game, and contains facts. I made it again (but got ur message after) and noticed you did not put it up to be deleted, is my new post for it better? I have found many things on Wikipedia that contain less info and are left as is, for example Tumbler the flash game had less but was left. I hope I am not using Wikipedia wong.... Please tell me if I am as I too am a big fan of the site. (btw would it be ok for a discussion form on a game for me to but my opinion on the game or rumors I have herd about them?) Please respond on my discussion thing so i can read it ty :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Playa1234 (talkcontribs)

I haven't been putting your entry BallerX up for deletion. Anthony.bradbury did that once, and that's the only time it's been nominated, apparently. It's great that you want to expand stuff, however, a lot of the time, flash games aren't considered notable enough for an article. But don't worry - you can't be too big a fan of Wikipedia! On a talk page, more discussion and less facts are allowed - if you have comments or rumors about the game that are relevant to the article, you could probably throw those on the talk page. Hope I've helped, Zapptastic (talk) 03:38, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that your page has been deleted once before. I can't tell you who nominated it for deletion that time, but I know the administrator Rje was the one who deleted it. I've noticed that you've both recreated deleted material, and you've removed a speedy deletion tag from the page. Because of these, I'm going to have to nominate it for speedy deletion, because it's a recreation of previously deleted material. You can talk about why the article should be kept on its talk page if you wish. Sorry, Zapptastic (talk) 03:42, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE:BallerX

I recreated the entry but i changed it so it was better and had more info, you siad that flash games arent notable but look up "Tumbler" it has one. Also when you put it up 4 deletion it was a diff artical then the original (thats y i got rid of the speedy delete because i changed it). The game was created by a friend of mine and I cannot understand why it cannot have an artical and tumbler can! Is there some way that I can create an artical for it that is like the Tumbler one that wont b deleted? (if it helps the game is not on addicting clips and was submited 2 ABS)

Thanks for your speedy rply —Preceding unsigned comment added by Playa1234 (talkcontribs)

Recreating deleted material is considered vandalism. Therefore I wouldn't suggest recreating your previous articles. Hi There-

Just wondering why the pages I created for Articulate Presenter and Articulate Quizmaker were deleted? I've seen plenty of other software companies that have pages specifically for individual software products. Was it simply because the content was the same as on the main Articulate page I created? If the pages are fleshed out with more detail, can they stay?

Thanks! -gabeanderson

The reason they were deleted is probably, yes, because they contained no more information than the main Articluate page. If you tried recreating them with more information, they might be kept, however, there are guidelines on notability for software. Good luck, hope I've helped, Zapptastic (talk) 01:10, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Zappa,

I never understood why people loved editing Wikipedia, but now I do--it becomes addictive very quickly!

I have a question: I've been adding links with "WebCite"; however, from what I've been noticing on the web pages that I've edited, no one seems to be using this. Shouldn't all links be used with WebCite (to avoid "Dead Links"?) Are people not using it because there are drawbacks to it?? It seems tedious for people to keep updating web page addresses, so I'm thoroughly confused as to why they're not utilizing WebCite.

Another query: Adding citations and the bibliography is pretty tough work. I never know which "format" (MLA, Harvard, etc...) to use. It's doubly hard when I have to keep going to the "Help" section to read the long sections of instructions....do you have any tips you could share to make this easier?

Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Debaroos (talkcontribs)

Well that's nice to have a really educated "total newbie" - you are very articulate and knowledgable. I have never heard of WebCite before. I went and looked it up, and it sounds like a great solution. I really can't tell you why it's not being used more. I guess part of the thing is that some people don't know about it (I didn't). But for external links that lead just to .coms and such, pages that will probably remain pretty stable, I guess people want to just link directly to the source, which keeps updating itself rather than WebCite's archive. I'm still not 100% sure of how it works, but I get ths jist. That's what it seems like to me, but I see it as a great tool, and will look into using it more in the future. You're free to continue using it yourself, and if you like it, and think it's a good way to external link, I suggest you do. Thanks much, Zapptastic (talk) 20:48, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't have any tips for you on the citations. My advice would be to keep going to the help page when you need it. After you keep doing so, you will eventually just know what's there, and be able to make those decisions without any reference. My guess is, that won't take very long for you. I agree though, there being multiple options and not a whole lot of recommendation does make it hard to choose. Good luck, Zapptastic (talk) 20:58, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your previous reply and kind words!

Regarding WebCite, I've decided not to go crazy with it: I'll preserve it for those excessively long & loathsome URLS. (I'm relieved you think WebCite is a good thing.)

I'm still flustered about citations, notes, and bibliographies. I tried "mixing" embedded URLS with the "reference" prompts (I don't know what one would call them), but it didn't work. Then I gave up and just used the "reference" commands. But it just doesn't look as nice!

This is my second attempt to sign my name. It states at the bottom to type "four tildes"; I tried doing that and nothing happened.

hi zappastic my name pdadala and i see my entry article on Dadala raphael ramanayya is kept for deletion. this is facts and are referenced from his autobiography notes named My struggle for freedom of french provinces in india which are a family treasure. I am a first timer to introduce articles into wikipedia which is an incredibly exciting place. pls let me know if this article can remain permanantly for both educative and historical purpose. I presume this is the only article with a lot of data and facts which hitherto is not available and is original. (````) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pdadala (talkcontribs)

Your article is not yet up for deletion, however, someone believes that there are reasons it should be deleted, specifically, the lack of verifiable sources and no hits on Google. If your subject is mentioned in the books you told me, you should list those in the "References" section at the end of the page. I'm glad you're on Wikipedia - you're right, it is an incredibly exciting place, and I hope you decide to stay. The article will remain part of the encyclopedia permanently if you can show that he exists, and show that he is notable enough to merit an article of his own. You say that the facts were hitherto not available, and that they are original - this violates our policy on original research. If you meant that they were previously not available on Wikipedia, however, that they were available in the book you cited, then it's all good. Hope I've helped, Zapptastic (talk) 08:18, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zappa, I just wanted to point out that the welcome template you're using eg. [2] has one major shortcoming. It doesn't provide a link to any Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines which makes it a bit awkward issuing warnings to users who never found out about our rules in the first place. By the way, what's the deal with this account and User:zappa.jake as you've put down on the welcome template? Are they both your accounts? If so you really should use the Wikipedia:Sock_puppet#Alternate_accounts template in case an administrator flags you down for sock puppetry. --  Netsnipe  (Talk)  17:21, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do have a sock. As of yesterday, Zappa.jake was my main account and Zapptastic was my sock. Today, I moved Zapptastic to Zapptastic2, and Zappa.jake to Zapptastic. I reregistered Zappa.jake, and I will mark Zappa.jake and Zapptastic2 as socks ASAP. Regarding your message about my welcome template, I will do that also - thank you very much for the input. Thanks, later, zappa.jake (talk) 20:31, 17 August 2006 (UTC) PS: I'm changing my signature right now.[reply]

You may want to check out Wikipedia:Welcome templates for a gallery of other Welcome templates and add yours there too. Currently User:Kukini/Welcome is my favourite. --  Netsnipe  (Talk)  21:03, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. I've added mine (personally, I like it the best!). Thanks, later, Zapptastic (talk) 21:18, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you expect anyone else to use your template, you might want to make the pathname as short as possible = P --  Netsnipe  (Talk)  21:27, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If anyone else wants to use it (cool with me), I would ask that they copy it to their own userspace and use it, as my signature is embedded in the code of the template, because the signature in the welcome template is different than my regular signature. I'll add a note about that there. Thanks, Zapptastic (talk) 21:29, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Zappa.jake,

I have removed the #REDIRECT User:Zappa.jake from User:Zappa and the relevant talk pages as Zappa is a registered user with no edits. I understand that you have requested usurpation, but those pages are not yours, and if Zappa ever decided to edit, his would be very confusing.

Please do not restore the redirects.

I know this is not what you would like, but it is in accord with standard practice.

With apologies, BCorr|Брайен 16:37, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I created zappa a while back as a sock. My signature used to simply read "zappa", and I didn't want anyone getting confused, so I registered it and redirected its pages. I've forgotten the password, and I can't get it emailed to myself. If I ever do, I will change my username, but until then, I'll have to stick with zappa.jake. If you like, I can leave the pages unredirected, but I don't see the harm in it, as they are mine. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 18:31, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. I think if you explain this in detail at the username change request page it can get cleared up. Until then, it's probably better not to have the redirects. Thanks again, BCorr|Брайен 19:44, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I explained it to Essjay, but he insisted for security reasons that I needed to post as zappa requesting the change. I'm not angry at him, I get his reasoning. Until then, I'll stick with what I have, spend time trying to remember my password, or find a new username. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 22:26, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I would like to know how can I flag a page I created as a Stub? Thank You —Preceding unsigned comment added by Madferret96 (talkcontribs)

Place stub at the bottom of the page. Stubs can be specialized too - for example, if your article is about an American person, you can place US-bio-stub on the page. There are more of those at Wikipedia:Stub categories. Thanks, hope I've helped, zappa.jake (talk) 18:27, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help. I tend to write pages and articles to help people. I used to have a WHOLE romanian encyclopedia on my personal website but nobody was using it and i stopepd updating it.

Questions:
-1- somebody delete a page i created called "adventure running" - are they supposed to put a reason somewhere?
-2- i created a page "bad water ultramarathon" - i just found out it is spelled "badwater" with no space -and that page exists .. dduuuhh :-) ... so how can i delete the page i created ?

thanks
Bogdandumitrescu 02:26, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, sorry to hear about your failure with the Romanian encylopedia - sounds like fun. Hope you enjoy your time here. Regarding question number run, if you go to the page you created (which no longer exists), follow the link to the deletion log, and there will be a reason there as to why the page was deleted. To delete your already-existing page, put something along the lines of This page already exists at Badwater marathon.. This puts a tag on the page marking it for speedy deletion with the reason you specified. Hope I've helped, later, zappa.jake (talk) 05:43, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I've found your adventure running page - it still exists: Adventure running. -zappa.jake (talk) 05:44, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi- How do I make corrections to the article title? Is there a way to rename the title? thanks --Atlanta06 02:00, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To do this, on the top of the page, near the "edit this page" tab, there is a "move" button to the right of the "history" tab. Then type in the page's new title. Be very careful about doing this to a "big" page - it can have huge consequences, and in some cases, can be considered vandalism if done wrongly. Hope I've helped, later, zappa.jake (talk) 04:02, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uhm... Hey there... It looks like you fixed a problems in my Michael section (The character from Pokémon XD) so.. thanks a lot... MegaCatZero 23:03 3 August 2006 (PS: If this messange doesn't belongs here, please Forgive me..)

I don't think I was the one who fixed your problem with that, I don't really know anything about Pokémon. I was the one who welcomed you, however. Anyways, you're welcome for that, I guess. And yes, you posed your note in the correct place. Don't hesistate to ask with any more questions! Later, zappa.jake (talk) 15:21, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah.. I have a question. How Do I insert Images on sections (example: Put a new image/coa-cola logo)? I read about it and tried, but I just cant, I quite dont understand. Thanks. MegaCatZero 19:31 pm 4 August 2006

Here's what I did to insert the image to the right. I searched Wikipeia for Coca-Cola, and found Coca-Cola. I then found the logo on the page, and clicked on the image. I was sent to the page of the picture. At the top, where you would normally see the title of the article, it said Image:CocaCola.gif. I copied that, and then put on my page. That means that the image of the logo is the image to be seen, that the picture would be on the right side of the page, that the picture would be 50 pixels wide, and that the caption would say "hello". You don't have to specify the location, size, or a caption if you don't wish to. Also, you may want to see the image tutorial. I hope I've helped - don't hesitate to ask with any more questions. If you are unsure of the process and wish to test it out, please do so at the sandbox. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 00:53, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Zappa.jake, I was just wondering what happened to my page (Family Service Agency of San Francisco). I created it today and for some reason it is not showing up on the search. Please help —The preceding unsigned comment was added by fsasf (talkcontribs) .

The most likely answers to your question were that you either created the page incorrectly, or that your page was deleted. Family Service Agency of San Fransisco does not exist, nor does it have anything in its deletion log. Same goes for FSASF and Fsasf. If you did not create the page correctly, the text cannot be salvaged. If you think you did create it correctly, you may have created it at the wrong location. This is really all I can help you with - sorry its not much. Have a great night, zappa.jake (talk) 00:21, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Zappa.jake. Thank you for your vigilance in watching user pages; the edits made to mine was actually done by myself. I have two accounts, my 'serious' one and my 'fun' one which I've seperated due to the unwieldy amount of pages on my watchlist it started to have. I just got lazy and edited with the one I was logged in as. Beowulph 20:39, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that edit was my bad. I saw an edit to your user page by someone else, and they changed a link from a bible thing to a comic site, and I was sure it was vandalism. Then I looked at the talk page of the user, and realized I had made a mistake. Sorry, zappa.jake (talk) 20:40, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Zappa, I wouldn't say this if I hadn't been noticing it for a month now. You're supposed to substitute the welcome template on people's user talk. Anyway, here's a template to remind you (and I subst'ed it =D).

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use instead of test. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. alphaChimp laudare 02:05, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing's wrong with it, and being a stub isn't too big of a problem in itself. While stub-sorting yesterday, I came upon it, sorted it, and left a cleanup tag on it. It just needs some minor cleanup, nothing too major though. I can't really right now, but maybe later I will come back and do that. I have a question for you. What does (db band) mean? J Dogg 03:01, 27 June 2006 (UTC)J Dogg[reply]

When someone places the db-band template on a page it means that they think the page ought to be deleted because the article is about a musical group, and the article does not tell why the musical group is important. This doesn't necessarily mean that the musician isn't important - it just means that the article doesn't say why the group is important. Under Wikipedia's Criteria for Speedy Deletion, an article about a musician where the importance of that musician is not asserted can be speedily deleted. Hope that answers your question! I've seen articles on individual routes on other systems here, so I creted some for routes around my place. The articles currently written were originally (and I believe still are) on the main page, but if I expand into other routes more (which I plan on doing) and expanding the articles already written, they couldn't all fit on the main page. -zappa.jake (talk) 08:01, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your support, and your constructive criticism; I intend to improve those areas – Gurch 16:40, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So we all know what I'm talking about, this is your edit on Wikipedia:Wikivacation before I reverted it:

That might be a good template to have, but I very strongly oppose the use of the image of pork brains. Mental health issues aren't to joke about, plus that picture just sorta grossed me out. Change it and I really don't care, but as it is, no. -zappa.jake (talk) 00:38, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Now my response to that is:

Please assume good faith. I don't know how clearer I can possibly be. I'm not "making fun" of mental disorders, I happen to have one myself (did you look at my user page?). I find that insinuation that I'm making fun of mental disorders to be a personal attack, even though you may not have meant it as such, that's how it comes across.

Also, had you mentioned the issue on my talk, I would've attended to it - I was attempting a Wikibreak at the time and not watching my watchlist. Cheers. — Nathan (talk) 20:21, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I may have assumed bad faith there, I admit. However, I think the image that was previously displayed on the proposed template was ... not good. Some people (including me at the time) saw that and looked at it as a mockery of mental illnesses. So I was saying that, as it was, with that image, I did not support the creation of the template. Now I really don't care. Thank you much for changing it, and sorry if you took it as a personal attack, which it wasn't. -zappa.jake (talk) 20:29, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to let you know I changed your speedy delete tag on this article to a prod instead, because I could find none of the reasons you gave for deletion at WP:CSD. And the same question about Category:Wikipedians who respect other people's religions and realise that not all people wish to follow the same path :) and Category:Wikipedians who do not support the USA PATRIOT Act. Conscious 16:59, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I like them all a lot, but of course they are not necessary. If there is a CfD (categories for deletion) page, please send me there though, I would like to support their inclusion. However, I'm really cool with whatever. Thanks much for asking! Later, zappa.jake (talk) 20:53, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here we go: Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 May 10#Category:Wikipedians who spend far too much time editing their user page. Conscious 05:21, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't the creator of those categories. Please check your facts in the future. Those categories fit me, so I added them to my page, but I wouldn't create any of them. Thanks, zappa.jake (talk) 20:42, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
His facts are correct, you are the creator of the (now deleted, so only admins can see the history) categories. --Syrthiss 17:17, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, indeed. I checked it again, and you're the creator. Cheers. Conscious 17:32, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. I may have made the summaries for the category, what it said at the top, but I am 100% percent certain I was not the first member of the category, nor did I inspire its creation. I just didn't want a broken link at the bottom of my user page. I found them because they were listed in the categories categorizing different Wikpedians. Anyways, thanks for bringing that up. My bad, zappa.jake (talk) 22:01, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Sorry I didn't get to this earlier. I don't think you can list a constructed language on WP:Babel, but I'd look around and find the page that lists userboxes. I'm fairly sure there's a place you can list the box for other people to see, although I don't have much experience with it as I try to use userboxes sparringly. Otherwise, they tend to get around by word of mouth. Cheers. — Ilyanep (Talk) 21:09, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. I know there are actually some fluent speakers of it around here, sorta like Klingon, but it does make sense, Babel being for natural languages only. I know there's a place to list the userboxes - I was just wondering if I could list them on the official Babel page. I already have myself and one other person (that I know of) with the userbox on their Babel. Anyways, thanks a lot! And congratulations on your CJ appointment! Power to the 14-year-olds, zappa.jake (talk) 23:16, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :) By the way, it's probably not just natural languages (Esperanto is on there), but most likely having an ISO 2 letter country code is an informal criteria (Although, once again I don't know as I don't hang around there much). — Ilyanep (Talk) 23:37, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Can you remove the subcategory on this site. I dont think we need it there and im not sure on how to remove it. By the way are you going to do your high school site? thanks John R G 18:18, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The subcategory, Virginia High School League, is a category in itself. The VHSL is a HSSL in itself, so I believe it belongs in the HSSL category. I'm not going to remove it myself, but if you still wish to, you may definitely do so yourself. To do this, go to the VHSL category, edit the page, and remove the category from it. Also, if I understand your question correctly, I have created a page about my high school - it is located here. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 21:04, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you take a look at the page you see that the border is a different color. Can you tell me how to put two colors there. It is what I want to do for my site. thanks John R G 17:41, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great page! Really looking great. Unfortunately, Wikipedia does not allow colors to be inserted into the borders, just because the feature would be overused and end up looking like a MySpace page. You may use different colors in the text, but I would refrain from using this, just for a more professional look for the page. However, a mention of the school colors would be satisfactory I'm sure. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 12:28, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thats the thing I want to do is put my school colors on the border. I have already had blue on the border for a couple of days now. Can you show me how to put two or three colors on the border. I will make it look nice and not a mess ok. John R G 06:23, 29 April 2006 (UTC).[reply]
You really can't do that. I would tell you how, but it really is impossible. Sorry, zappa.jake (talk) 13:15, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clever, and added. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, la is really the best place to find me. You should definitely make the other levels.--Josh Rocchio 03:00, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will - I have all the levels planned out, so it shouldn't be too hard, but I'm sorta busy tonight. Anyways, later, zappa.jake (talk) 03:46, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the edit to the "central station" listing. I am new to this and was unsure what I was editing. No disrespect was intended. Now on to your proposed change. Could you please explain what physical security has to do with a central station. I do not see the comparison you are trying to make or the reason for a merge. Also, where do we discuss this proposed change? Any help for a beginner would be appreciated.

Thanks
dss311

Not a problem at all! Always glad to help a newbie around here! I think that they should be merged because the article Physical security discusses securing buildings and such. Central Station (Alarm Monitoring Center) discusses the place where security companies monitor their customer's systems. Alarms are a big part of PS, and CS has to do with alarms and such. To consolidate both articles into one place would make sense to me. Also, I think it's great that you're already creating new articles, because Wikipedia encourages users to be bold. I didn't take any disrespect at all, either! Don't know where you got that idea... Anyways, the official place for discussion is at CS's talk page. I'm moving what we've said to that page, but I'll also leave it here. In the future, please post comments or such on that page. Until we get a couple more people to vote on this, we will just leave the page as such. I may very well be wrong here too, and more people may side with you here. It's all good! No problem. I'm always here to help. You came close to posting in the right section, but again, you beat a lot of newbies who don't even know what page to put stuff on! Welcome to the Minnesota State Highways project. I noticed that you edited Minnesota State Highway 3 to mention that it terminates in downtown St. Paul. Actually, it now terminates at Minnesota State Highway 110 in Inver Grove Heights. The part of South Robert Street in West St. Paul and the west side of St. Paul is no longer signed as a state highway. (If you're really into trivia, that part of South Robert Street is an unmarked state highway, Trunk Highway 952A. I believe the Ramsey County section was turned back to Ramsey County, while they haven't reached a turnback agreement with Dakota County yet.) For more information, check out Highway 3 on Steve Riner's page, as well as the unmarked routes section on Steve Riner's page. --Elkman - (talk) 04:17, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I live like four blocks away from the highway. I changed the article to reflect it ending in Saint Paul, but I see you noticed. If it is necessary, I will go down to Robert north of 494 and take some pictures of state highway signs denoting it as Highway 3. You also can look on Mapquest or Google Maps, and it remains Highway 3 north of 494. Cheers to figuring it out! -zappa.jake (talk) 04:24, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I wasn't able to go down and take any pictures, but I see that you haven't reverted my changes, which I appreciate. Did you look at Mapquest or Google Maps? Thanks, and feel free to follow up with any other questions. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 03:21, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was out mountain biking with a couple friends this afternoon, at Salem Hills Park in Inver Grove Heights. (Or is it Harmon Park? They're changing the name from one to the other.) Anyway, after we got done, I drove north a short distance on South Robert Trail past MN-110. There is indeed a sign saying "End Minnesota 3" north of MN-110 just before Mendota Road, by one of the car dealerships. We made a U-turn at the intersection and there's a sign on the other side saying, "Begin Minnesota 3". There's a picture of the northern terminus at AJFroggie's site. Steve Riner's page also says that MN-3 ends at I-494. I checked out Google Maps and it indeed shows MN-3 continuing on South Robert Trail to downtown St. Paul, but this appears to be incorrect given the signage. --Elkman - (talk) 04:12, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Tomorrow I am calling up MnDOT for information about getting a motorcycle permit. While on the phone with them, I will ask them what the official northern terminus of 3 is. If I don't post something here by tomorrow night, remind me and I will write it all over my hand to call them! Thanks, zappa.jake (talk) 04:16, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, you probably want to talk to Driver and Vehicle Services about a motorcycle permit. Don't expect to get through quickly -- the last time I tried calling them, I had to keep trying because the line was busy all the time. --Elkman - (talk) 13:11, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I called the MnDOT reference library today, and they said I needed to call the Department of Public Safety about the motorcycle permit. I'll check their website, and then call them if necessary. Anyways, the guy at the reference library said that Highway 3 officially ends at I-494, but that it used to run to downtown Saint Paul. The Robert Street portion is now decomissioned and operated by the respectful cities, but he said that there still may be signs up "advertising" it as Highway 3. I'll post this conversation on the talk page, and update the article with relevant information. Thanks! -zappa.jake (talk) 20:53, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see my first entry on Chic Johnson seems to have gotten your seal of approval. If thanks are in order, regard yourself as thanked.

As a newbie at this, perhaps I could pick your young, oh-so supple brain on a small issue.

I just discovered that the link for Johson's parter, Ole Olsen is for an entirely different individual of the same name. I'd like to fix this and give him his own entry. An additional entry for the two of them as a team would probably be in order too. I supposed I could work my way through the tutorial but, hey, if it's a simple matter and you have the expertise, I'd apprecaite it if you could do me the honor of spilling it. Otherwise, I'll just fend for myself.

Hope you enjoyed the article.

Oh, and the little banner thingy about your page being best viewed with one's pants on: priceless. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Msfonda (talkcontribs)

No thanks are really in order, as I guess I really don't have a "seal of approval". So for two people of the same name, one usually created a disambiguation page, which is a page listing all people to whom the article may refer. Then, the individual articles must be named differently in some way. Usually, this is done by putting one's occupation after their name. A good example of this is at John Lee. If you can give me a one-word description of what each person does, I may be able to help you. I looked at the current Ole Olson, but it was difficult to find one word to describe him. This may be easier to do in contrast of the other Ole. So what would you say would be a good one-word description of both people? Once I have that, I can move and shuffle some pages around, and then we should be in business! If you would like to do this yourself (which would help you gain some nice experience), I can help guide you through the process if you wish. Thanks, zappa.jake (talk) 02:44, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jake,

I found something interesting. Turns out that there is an entry for my guy, comedian Ole Olsen but that his last name’s misspelled as Olson, but only in the heading. Here’s the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ole_Olson

Here’s the description for the other Ole Olsen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ole_Olsen): Ole Olsen (4 July 1850 - 9 November 1927) was a Norwegian organist, composer and conductor.

Here’s a humbly suggested one-sentence description for my guy:

Ole Olsen (6 November 189226 January 1963) was the relatively straighter half of the manic comedy team of Olsen and Johnson that is most famous for their Broadway smash and later film, Hellzapoppin'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Msfonda (talkcontribs)

Hey. So if you are sure that "your guy" had a last name spelled "Olsen", then we should move Ole Olson to Ole Olsen (comedian). Then we move the current Ole Olsen to Ole Olsen (musician). Then we go back to Ole Olsen. On that page should be some small code redirecting you to the musician's page. We replace that with something like the code here. If you want to do this, then I think the previous instructions should do you well. If not, please ask for any clarification. If you would like me to perform the moves for you, that's cool with me, I just think it would be nice for you to get some more experience. If you would rather I do it, let me know - it's not that hard once you get the hang of it. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 21:15, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'm sure. As a matter of fact, the heading is the only place in the article where it's spelled "Olson." I tried to change it but could figure out where to go to edit it. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ole_Olson). As for the issue of moving the names, I'm not sure what you mean by that.

I'm heading out of town tomorrow morning so it will probably be a few days before I pick this one up again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Msfonda (talkcontribs)

It's cool if you don't understand. I'll do it for you tonight. When you get back, check it out and see what I did. Then maybe you will understand how to use the "move" button for future use! Later, zappa.jake (talk) 02:59, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

just did my 1st entry into Wiki.. (Sophie Moleta) and see that you wikified it for me... thank you - just wondering what i'd done 'wrong' or if this is a normal thing (to wikify) thanks --203.163.71.197 06:58, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, although I must thank you for the flattery, I am not the one to thank here. I am a newpage patroller, so I watch all the new pages created and do anything that needs doing on them. Articles were being created rather rapidly last night, so I wasn't able to add or fix anything with yours. Instead I added the tag, which is what I put in the edit summary. This puts a flag up to other users telling them that there is some style issues with the new article. With yours, it was a pretty good first edit of an article, especially for someone's first new page! There were just some layout issues and such that needed fixing, and I didn't have time to do so. I checked the history of the page though, and I see there were multiple people after ourselves who edited the article and improved it a bit. They are really the ones to thank - I didn't really do anything to it. But thanks! Later, zappa.jake (talk) 21:16, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. the message that i get was from a automatic system or you have just send them? you have delete my page? im sorry i just think to add some informations about me (not much) and i was thinking to put a biography later but not today. is this legal? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Exoskeletor (talkcontribs)

I put your message there personally. There are automatic templates one can place on other's talk pages, but I try to show more personal attention than that. Even then, Wikipedia is fully user-run and is not run by machines or robots at all. I did not delete your page - Enochlau did. His reason was because he believe it was a biography of a non-notable person. You can contact him by leaving a message on his talk page, just like you left me one on mine. In Wikipedia, biographies must be of people with a certain level of notariety - someone important enough to be in an encyclopedia. You can read more on the policy here. Your page would widely be considered a vanity page, something which is highly discouraged among users. About the legality of your action, you are in no trouble. Although I'm no legal expert, you should be fine with most stuff you put here, and just about anything you would put her in good faith. Thanks for your attempted contribution, and I hope you make many more constructive ones! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me! Thanks, zappa.jake (talk) 03:52, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok i understand and im think im not so good for writing me on encyclopedia although i don't know how anyone can say it. i just want to add a biography and some usefull programs that i have make (i can send 1 or 2 if you want :) ). How can i know if i worth to write here? what you suggest me to do? delete the last page i have create? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Exoskeletor (talkcontribs)

Everyone starts out new - and trust me, it can be difficult! For the first while, you will screw up, and sometimes, a crazy Wikipedian will get angry at you (99% of us are really civil!), but you will eventually become really good here. Don't sweat the small stuff. It was nice that you were bold, as is one of Wikipedia's policies to be. However, adding the biography and the programs would probably not be the smartest ideas, but it's all cool! I run a Mac, so I doubt your programs would run here, but thanks for the offer! You are worthy to us, and we welcome all new editors - we realize that people make mistakes! I would encourage you to keep editing if you feel like you know roughly what's going on - there is always work to be done! If you are not quite comfortable yet, you can just sit back and watch for a while - I know some people (like classmates) who are not interested in editing Wikipedia, but still use it all the time for research and such. For now, do whatever you're comfotable with. You cannot delete your last page - only admins can do such, but it has already been done, so no worries. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 04:05, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Is English your native language? If not, it's awesome that you are attempting to work in the English Wikipedia. I take some Latin in school, so I edit the Latin Wikipedia once in a while. There are over 1000 Wikipedias out there, in all different languages, so it may be easier to learn in your native language, or one that you are more comfortable with. You can find links to other Wikipedias on the bottom of the main page. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 04:08, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am from greece so my native language is greek. :) i used to come here a long time ago and i have just found informations about Eric Chahi a great programmer and i though why not to make a page about me and some creations of mine. i have forgot for a second that this is a encyclopedia :). So i think someday i will add a page with programs and i will send you a message to look at it because i dont want about a page of me to be deleted again like this and not known who did this. its like "you dont worth it, get out of here" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Exoskeletor (talkcontribs)

If you would like to try your hand on the Greek Wikipedia, it is located here. If someone deletes a page, you can always find out who did it by checking the deletion log. When you come to a deleted page, there will be a link that says "Click here to check (the page)'s deletion log" - you can click that and see who deleted that, and then follow up by talking to them. Some people can be mean here, but the vast majority of us don't bite - I really hope you aren't discouraged by this experience. However, I think Enochlau just had the best intentions for the project at heart - I'm sure he didn't mean anything personal against you. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 04:57, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Refering to your (now reverted) edits to Hākuturi. A lot of Polynesian myth articles have the Sources section this way. I like them to be consistent. Kahuroa 04:03, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the weeks since that discussion happened, I have rewritten a lot of the Poly. Myth. articles, an ongoing project, involving rewrites, finding references for them, untangling articles that mixed the traditions of different Polynesian cultures, and changing the references style to conform to the recommended practice. Kahuroa 00:17, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I'm in the middle of beginning this article, and I noticed that you changed the title from Daniel Webster Jones (1830-1915) to Daniel Webster Jones (Mormon) while I was actually creating it. I haven't done a lot of editing yet, and this is still intended to be a stub, so maybe I'm missing some protocol, but I created it with the dates to distinguish him from the Arkansas governor (1839-1918) (which, I just looked at and see you've switched to governor as well. I did change the "what links here" sites and was in process of adding links to other articles such as Mesa, Arizona and Fay Wray. Why is governor/Mormon more appropriate to distinguish individuals than their birth/death dates? Additionally, DWJ (1830-1915/Mormon) is of interest to Western American history generally, not just Mormon history, and there is another figure, Dan Jones (Welsh missionary), in Mormon history who would probably eventually need to be disambiguated from the others.

I understand the simplicity of a one-word title; and I guess if I consider it, I can't really think of a better single word to distinguish DWJ (1830-1915) (though I do have a bit of a problem with the implied exclusivity of interest which might result from the title). Also, whose responsibility is it to change the "What links here" pages for the governor and the Mormon?

Thanks Ryan Reeder 21:49, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: Apparently, you're working on it too at the moment, because it's changed again. Let me know what you're up to. Thanks.

Ryan Reeder 21:52, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't done anything since changing the titles - I haven't edited anything else. Gererally, I don't edit under IPs unless I forget to log it and my cookies are broken, which doesn't happen often. Since your first message, I have been looking around the WP: namespace trying to find a style page about naming convention for people with similar names, but I haven't found anything official. I guess 95% of the time when I see two similarly named people around on Wikipedia, they are either distinguished with middle names or nicknames, or, if not, with (their occupation) after their name. For an example, see John Lee. Also, about changing the links with the governor, you really don't have to do that - they will redirect. When you move a page, it automatically redirects links to the old page to the new page. You have to check for double redirects, in the situation of A->B->C, where I want to get to A from a starting point, but the page is actually located at C, then the redirecting system will only take me to B. That is sort of confusing I realize, but I guess I don't know how to put it more clearly. But anyways, I checked for double redirects, and there were none, so the links don't need to be changed. I hope I didn't cause an edit conflict. Later, zappa 22:04, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, no edit conflict, just as a beginner here, I wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking any protocol. The example I looked at for a guide on similar names was John Taylor, which seems to be rather non-uniform. Some have birth/death dates, some have an occupation or something else. Perhaps there ought to be a standardized rule.

I think I'll leave what you have just to keep existing links OK, but I'll put back birth/death dates, to further clarify, without being a part of the link. Other names seem to have this convention.

I also figured that it was better to change things so that links go directly to a page, so that we get rid of any (redirected from XYZ) notes. Besides, a single redirect is halfway to a double, and it would be good to get rid of those just to erase the likelihood of getting a double. When a move is created, it then becomes the responsibility and courtesy of the mover to fix redirects so that they link directly to a page. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but this was how I interpreted the line "A code of honor for creating disambiguation pages is to fix all resulting mis-directed links." on the disambiguation page.

Again, thanks.

You've edited the NZSL article claiming that NZSL is now an official language of New Zealand. From what I can gather about the royal assent process this seems highly unlikely. If you have evidence that royal assent has already been given to the New Zealand Sign Language Bill could you please point me to it?

Just some background. The bill doesn't become law in New Zealand until the Governor-General signs it (known as royal assent). Furthermore this particular bill contains a section stating the it doesn't come into effect until the day after royal assent. From what I can gather about royal assent, it looks like it generally happens on a Monday or Thursday. Also it may be that it only occurs when Parliament's sitting. Parliament is taking a break for Easter now, so we may be waiting until 2 May for NZSL to become an official language.

Ben Arnold 02:08, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My bad. I thought something was fishy, but decided to update the article to what I thought was true at the time. On the front page, it said that it had just been made the official language - nothing about waiting for royal assent. I read through the article, but it referred to the royal assent as a "constitutional formality", which may be sort of degrading to its legal importance. Anyways, after reading that, I figured it was not a legal process anymore, just something for show. But I guess I trust Wikipedia's front page, so I updated it. Guess I should've dont more research. Thanks, zappa 22:50, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is a difference between "self-explanation" and portraying one of the articles you've created incorrectly as an "overlord". I think your fooling yourself if you think that the user pages are somehow immune from truth, I mean, they can be edited for a reason. I know that when I research stuff on wikipedia I often go the the editors user page to see what kind of person created the page. And to see if they have any unencyclopedic comments about the subject. But don't worry, I won't edit yours again. Sorry.-User:Danbold 11:54, April 4, 2006

Thanks. It's tough being new to Wikipedia, and I just wanted to illustrate my point. Sometimes the best way to learn is through experience. I'll change it back to started - it's still true, and it doesn't really matter that much to me. Thanks for understanding, zappa 05:25, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a slight contradiction between the following two opinions

"These [red links] are important to Wikipedia because it shows that there is a need for a page, and may inspire someone to create that very page."

"In the future though, please do not leave sections blank without content. Please add the sections after you have completed some content to go in them." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danbold (talkcontribs)

The editor had created an article like this, without content under some headers. The page just looked ugly with blank headers without anything under them. I changed my reply - thanks for pointing out the disambiguity. Sorry about the misunderstanding. -zappa 05:25, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you'd like, I can remove the 'personal details' edit from the edit history of this page - no need to say whether it's correct or not. To do this, I'll need to delete then undelete your user talk page - this page. Just say the word. --PeruvianLlama(spit) 05:42, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's all cool - he didn't get it right, and I doubt he will. Both my IP's are dynamic. No worries. You can delete it if you want, but there's really no need. I would just prefer he get a warning or blocking from an administrator, but it's your choice! Thanks for the help, zappa 05:45, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I went ahead and did it anyway - the onus should not be on the victim to prove that the address isn't theirs, so if nothing else, I deleted it on principle. Cheers! --PeruvianLlama(spit) 05:52, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you a ton for all your help! Very much appreciated! -zappa 05:54, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to help! :) --PeruvianLlama(spit) 05:54, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I wrote a stub about William J. Quinn, former police chief in San Francisco and you grabbed the photo I had as an external link and put it on the page. Now ithe photo, which was from the online archive of California has been tagged because there is no copyright info. I am not that good at Wikipedia, and i'm too lazy to fix it. Cal you help?Hank chapot 22:45, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can help if you can give me copyright information on the picture. Until then, we must leave it tagged. -zappa 05:41, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I shouldnt've inserted my POV into the article. Totally my bad, zappa 04:45, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey man. I don't mean to be rude, but could you wait until I am finished editing a page before you start making changes to it? Thanks --Eastlaw 03:59, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry man - didn't know you were editing it. In the future though, please do not leave headers blank without content under them. Please add the sections after you have completed some content to go in them. -zappa 04:04, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
