Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Covert listening device. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. SkierRMH (talk) 23:47, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

January 2008[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Technical Surveillance Counter-Measures. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. alex.muller (talkedits) 13:34, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Alex, This is the FIRST time i have received any messages regarding not being able to add my link. Since there are other Business/commercial links on this page, i didn't think it would be a problem? Would you please define what is inappropriate about my contribution to TSCM ? regards, John — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zipsplat (talkcontribs) 20:19, January 13, 2008

A quick look at your contributions page reveals it's not the first time – as well as the warning message above from the 11th January (example diff). I (and other editors, according to the times it's been reverted) just aren't convinced that the links add anything to the article. Have a read through WP:External Links, let me know your thoughts, and we can ask other editors to comment if you still feel the same way.
