Removing Nonsense

Could you explain this [1] edit to First Flight High School? I'm trying to WP:AGF the creator and recent editor of this article, by trying to help have it cleaned up. Thanks -- ▒ՅցႽ∅շշ▒ | 01:35, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I was trying to remove this edit, but I must have been edit conflicted or something. Sorry, ZooFari 01:38, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Another "creative" SVG request

If you have the interest, I'd like to have a coat of arms of the van Rensselaer family made. I have a few images you can base it off of, and it will be PD-old. It will require some creative input on your part to make it right.

  1. File:Rensselaer Stained Glass Round.png
  2. File:Van Rensselaer Stained Glass Rectangular 2.jpg
  3. File:Van Rensselaer Stained Glass Rectangular.jpg
  4. File:VanRensselaerFamilyCrest.png
  5. This image too

The crest of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute uses the coat of arms in the upper portion, which you can steal elements from. The finished crest includes the urn and flame above it, which you can read about here (bottom of page) (and which you can see in most of the images listed above - you'll have to use creative skill on that one :)). I would advise going with the shape of the shield being like Fig 4 in this image, but with flares added to the top. Steal the shape from another coat of arms SVG if you want. RPI's version (#5 above) makes the bottom right quadrant blue lines with a white background whereas the stained glass in #s 1, 2, and 3 make it black lines with a gold background. Can you make a version with both? Any questions, let me know and thanks in advance! wadester16 21:02, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Addendum: for the stars, use an octagram, rather than the lazy star-of-david like shape used by RPI on its crest, which I don't believe is correct. For the cross, use the cross moline. The cross used on the RPI crest, with the curled ends is definitely not right and just lazy on their part. wadester16 21:34, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Question:  : Is there already one in existence that I need to make it resemble to, or do I just randomly create one with the sources you provided? ZooFari 00:52, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Not that I've found. You'll have to randomly create one. That is if you're interested in doing so, of course. :-) wadester16 00:56, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
This is a good shape to start with, just add the flares on top like #8 in this. wadester16 01:14, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Okay. Still a little confused though. I got the basic COA template with the curved top as you mentioned above. What next? Do you want flames and what example from the sources above do you want me to use? ZooFari 01:25, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Steal the SVG elements and colors from the RPI crest (save for the stars, as I said above). But in the end, make the COA look like this. You can use such elements as this for the flame, though it would be better if you could add some orange and yellow to make it look at least a bit more real. As for the basket, it looks like you may have to make something yourself. Went through the categories at Commons but didn't see anything similar to what we need (for the basket I'm going by this for the inspiration). I'll keep looking though. wadester16 01:30, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Looks like that multicolored chord under the basket of fire is also a common element. Couldn't find a drawing, but something like this will work if you can get the outline. Use the same red color as the COA itself. wadester16 01:41, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Okay. I'll finish this when I get my full attention to it. ZooFari 22:57, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
No rush; good luck with your wikibreak. wadester16 23:27, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
It was no wikibreak, it was a nightmare. I was diagnosed with the immunodeficiency syndrome but later turned out to be a false positive (oh what a relief). I now have my attention to your request. I might have it done either today or tomorrow! :-) ZooFari 23:55, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Wowow. That's scary. wadester16 23:59, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Hey, do you mind if I cross out some of your posts as an indication that I've fulfilled those requests? I feel loopy today. ZooFari 01:04, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
It's your talk page; you can do what you want. :-) wadester16 04:29, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I've started the COA like this. We'll go from there. Let me know the changes I need to make to the body of the COA. Meanwhile, I'll work on the top portion. ZooFari 01:03, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Looks good so far. Top left quadrant is done. Top right, rotate the stars so the points point up and down. Also, make them look like they do in this, with lines splitting the points and a shadow effect similar to the featured star. Bottom left, bring the crown rows further apart (maybe the crowns can be stretch vertically without looking bad?). Bottom right, make the lines thicker and further apart; something closer to what's shown in this. Oh and make the background of the three quadrants white, not transparent. Otherwise, great start! wadester16 01:50, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Actually, cross in the top left should be white. wadester16 01:51, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Okay, let me go over at FPC and take care of some things first. ZooFari 21:54, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Made some changes. Will do the rest offline. ZooFari 14:47, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Looking good; blue stripes should be sent to back, so they don't overflow the outer border. Can you pull the two rows of crowns further from each other? upstateNYerformerly wadester16 17:37, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Done and  Fixed. Is that enough for the crowns or do you want them more spread? I stretched the crown vertically, as you suggested above, to make them fit. I can resize or stretch if you want them more spread. As for the stars, I'm going to have to look into that and see if I'm going to have to do it manually or by tool. Other than that, and the top portion, is everything else okay? ZooFari 18:32, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Let's stretch them vertically a bit and separate the two crowns on top from the one below a bit so they don't look so cramped. Otherwise, looks good. upstateNYerformerly wadester16 19:17, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Done. Is that OK? ZooFari 19:21, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
I've also added the basket with flames. It's not completed but I want to know if the shape is alright. I'm not so good with braids and ropes, but I might be able to texturize it somehow. ZooFari 04:28, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Yea, I know what you mean; forget the flame and basket. It just seems too much and we can do without. The rest looks pretty good. Would you be able to move the blue stripes and the crowns down a little bit? They don't look centered in their quadrants. upstateNYerformerly wadester16 06:30, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Is that better? That's what auto-align wants. Looks like the stars are all we need, right? Any effects, gradients, or shadows that you would like me to add? Colors? ZooFari 14:53, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Can you send the shape between the stars to the back? Looks like it's on top other shapes. Other than that, just the stars. Looks great. upstateNYerformerly wadester16 04:21, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Done! Hehe, I found an easy way of doing 3D stars. Experimenting really pays off! Is that the type of shadowing effect you wanted for the stars? Also the shape between the stars was just an illusion of intersecting borders. Fixed now. Also, would you help me fill in a description and some categories for it? ZooFari 00:58, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Stars look awesome! Thank you once again! upstateNYerformerly wadester16 02:56, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Btw, this easily passes the test of originality and is based on a combined assessment of multiple variations of the CoA, meaning you have the rights to this image. If you'd like, you can license it under CC if you want. Up to you though. upstateNYerformerly wadester16 03:00, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Just so you know, I am using your image now; the template went live today. upstateNYerformerly wadester16 22:56, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Help with tables

Hello, I found your name on the adopter page. I am not sure that I want to be adopted, but I am new and need some advice about tables, and I was hoping you could critique something simple that I did.

I recently made a table, my first table, showing historical exchange rates of currency. There are a lot of other currencies that I feel need similar tables, and I was thinking of adapting data in this format for other currencies on their pages. Could you look at the code for this table and tell me if it is all in order?

Also, I had some concerns about how I collected the data, as I expressed here. These issues are more related to content validity than table structure, but do you feel you could comment on how seemingly arbitrary decisions get made? I have chosen only certain years and currencies for comparison based on what interests me and how many entries I feel would look good on a table. Is this how decisions get made in encyclopedias? Thanks in advance for any insight you can share. Blue Rasberry 19:35, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

The table looks well formatted and organized :-). As for the years, posting it on the talk page was probably the best route, though there is no real "best" increments to use in the table. If someone suggests another way, then you can discuss and go from there. Let me know if you need anything else. ZooFari 22:06, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi!

I am sorry if the above title has offended/made you angry, but I really needed your attention! I think you ignore talkbacks on your talk pages. I left talkback about this User talk:Srinivas/Archives/2009#Re ZooFari! And you haven't cared to see it if you have really seen the talkback. See, what I do is when i have attended to the talkback, I just make the code from {{tb|Example}} to {{tlx|tb|Example}} so that i know that i have seen the talk page. If you aren't used to seeing tb's tell me, I will leave a message at your talk page as RE:<Section Name>. --Srinivas 06:12, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Sorry if I'm making this feel like I'm ignoring you, but I do see the TBs. It's just that sometimes I need some time to take care of the things and other times I get stressed out with other stuff. Thus I do something else I like to do in spare time so I can get back to it with a fresh mind. Besides, it's been only 2 days, so isn't that a little too early to presume that I'm not caring? Also, I would like to go on IRC with you sometime but unfortunately I live over here in North America, so I can only get to you late at night or very early in the morning. I think I'll be able to go on late tomorrow, so we can talk about the article you brought up on your talk page. Sounds okay? ZooFari 23:01, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
I am sorry if you are angry but I really needed your attention. Okay, we will meet tomorrow. Please specify the time. Please specify the format of time in terms of UTC 0 i.e. time in G.M.T or London so that I can understand what time you are saying. I see above that my adoptee has met you. Seems to me like a chain of wikifamily is meeting each other! I have also changed this section name. --Srinivas 09:11, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Hey, don't worry. I'll meet you at 4 or 5 UTC time. I might stay up to 6 or 7 if you're unable to make it. Sounds good? ZooFari 22:21, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Okay! It will be 10:30 to 11:30 in between here if it is 4 or 5 utc time. Well it is today or tomorrow i.e. 5th or 6th? --Srinivas 06:28, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Question

Why do some svgs have the handy "SVG rendered as PNG images in different resolutions:" option (like this), but others don't (like this)? It doesn't seem to be a line of wikicode doing it. Can that be forced on an svg? Also, you have email. :) upstateNYer 01:24, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Did you try the file page at Commons? They seem to appear there only. Re email. ZooFari 01:53, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Nah, that doesn't make a difference. If it shows up on Commons, it does here too. I was just wondering if there was a method to which files get the option or not. upstateNYer 03:26, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, they work fine on my browser, but I think I've seen some files without it as well. I'll look into that. *Check email. ZooFari 04:03, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I have addressed Guest and your concerns. Pls have a look. --Muhammad(talk) 18:04, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Speleonectes atlantida

Updated DYK query On September 8, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Speleonectes atlantida, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Have some time to read this over?

Hey there: you seem to like to read over some of the articles I work on (:)), so I was wondering if you'd be interested in doing a read-over of User:Eliphaletnott/Union College, which is a rewrite of Union College. It could use a few sets of fresh eyes to copyedit and informally peer review it before it goes live. What do you think? upstateNYer 03:47, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

I'll read it throughout the afternoon. I ran AWB on it and only this typo was found (which is impressive when dealing with an article that hasn't been scanned). Additionally, this section is unwikified, failing Wikipedia:Accessibility. The subtitles need to be subheadings. Not sure it's redundant now, but I would change them to subheaders and limit the TOC. ZooFari 23:03, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for reviewing it; we both appreciate the feedback. upstateNYer 02:21, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

SVG Request

Brunswick has a flag, but there are no strict guidelines. It's a white flag with the seal in the center. Could you please make this? Use the US Flag as a base shape, make it white, and add the seal to the center. Make the diameter of the seal 60% of the height of the flag. Upload under fair use as if it were a logo. Think you can do it? upstateNYer 02:19, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Done. Do you want the black border? Thinner? Also, delete this scratch. Let me know if this works. ZooFari 03:38, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Looks perfect. At first I would have advised removing the border, per other flags, but I don't think it's obvious enough without it. upstateNYer 05:57, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

How about another one? :) Check your email and you'll have a file that you can base this discussion off of. I put a map into Brunswick, New York, but the USGS maps are stretched in the east-west direction. But I have a great source that I think should be easy for you to grab svg elements from. Take the map from here and remove the shading and roads; save the roads I indicate in the image I emailed you. Leave only the outline and those roads. Label the roads as I have, but with the svg elements. Don't user the colors I have, just use the black lines; the colors are there so you know what roads to leave behind and how they are separated. Let me know if that's doable. upstateNYer 20:35, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

The PDF image is an SVG? ZooFari 20:45, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Hehe, I have no idea; I assumed since it gets infinitely bigger as I zoom, that it was; shows you what I know about vector graphics. :) upstateNYer 20:46, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Don't worry, it's not hard tracing the roads all over :-). ZooFari 20:47, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
So it's basically everything in the image you emailed me, but in color, right? ZooFari 20:54, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Just the town outline and those roads, but keep the roads as black lines; I only colored them so you could identify them as separate routes. upstateNYer 21:01, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Do you have the image without the coloration? Just to be more accurate. ZooFari 21:06, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Also, I assume you want me to ignore the patterns, right? They aren't difficult to make so let me know if you change your mind. ZooFari 21:09, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
The patterns are irrelevant, as are the district labels. I kind of figured the PDF would offer a better tracing source? But I'll email you the B&W too. upstateNYer 21:15, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
I would use the PDF, but I don't know how to download it :( ZooFari 21:19, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Question: Are the district boundaries roads? ZooFari 00:48, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Probably, but I don't need the district boundaries, only the town border and those state routes traveling through the town. upstateNYer 12:23, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Additionally (this should be easy), could you replace this, by starting with something like this and using the color scheme in this (states color scheme → towns)? Label the cities/towns and villages as well, like in the one I had made. Don't color the villages, leave them dotted; use a smaller font when labeling the villages. Up to it? upstateNYer 00:23, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Upload over it? ZooFari 02:40, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Yea, good idea. upstateNYer 02:46, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
But the file is uploaded here... ZooFari 02:49, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
i'll move it after you upload. upstateNYer 02:51, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Done, though the font didn't come out the way I wanted it to. Do you want me to use times, or is it okay? ZooFari 02:54, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Looks like Stephentown and Schodack aren't at 100% opacity. Can you make the font bigger on the town/city labels (and I'm not a fan of times font, so don't go that direction)? Also, if a village label can fit in a town, feel free to do it. For the villages, remove the "Village" if you added it. Not necessary because I'll put notes over the labels. You can feel free to rotate the name if it makes it fit better, like in the old version. upstateNYer 03:05, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Only 2 will fit in a town if you rotate it, but I thought it would look nicer if I just blow those two off and go with the diagram connectors. And making the font bigger will throw out a couple more labels that are located within the shape. Your choice though :-) Same for the villages, actually. If I put the names within the town, it would look cramped. Still want the change? ZooFari 00:48, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

←Let's see how it looks and we'll go from there. Any luck with the Brunswick map? upstateNYer 01:16, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Ok. As for Brunswick, I had to start all over twice due to software bugs so there might be a delay until I update it to a version that has auto-save. ZooFari 01:19, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Okey doke. upstateNYer 01:59, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Uploaded new version. ZooFari 02:55, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Can we make the town fonts bigger? And Schaghtecoke Village (again, remove "Village") label can move into Pittstown. Drop "City of" from Troy and Rensselear. Basically the goal is to be able to see the town labels in thumbnail. upstateNYer 03:07, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
How about now? Sorry about the bad font... ZooFari 03:39, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Much better. Twist "Stephentown" a bit so it doesn't overlap and have North and East Greenbush wrap, so the file doesn't extend so far to the left. Otherwise perfect. upstateNYer 03:45, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
I know, I'm a perfectionist... I'm sorry! upstateNYer 03:46, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Done Anything else? ZooFari 03:55, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi, how r u? Just came here to release stress of studying. reply please. Anything interesting? --Srinivas 14:06, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Nothing much. I'm quite busy with a bundle of SVG tasks this week, but unfortunately my software keeps crashing in the middle of a drawing. So yeah, I'm a little stressed out too. So how's studying? Anything interesting you're learning? ZooFari 00:37, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Not really, I am learning about tissues, how to write a chemical formula, gravitation, lines and their angles and about Nazism. Nothing very interesting, all the topics, i think you know and all are very interesting. Have a nice time, please stress out in the earliest. --Srinivas 14:00, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

New Section

Hi ZooFari! Glad you took the request to color the Japan map. It would be great if you could create a similar map for List of National Treasures of Japan (sculptures). The prefectures which need coloring can be found in the table in List_of_National_Treasures_of_Japan_(sculptures)#National_Treasures_by_City_and_Prefecture. PS: I realize that a proper map should not mark areas (prefectures) but the cities. However, since there are many cities close to each other which would need to be marked (especially in the Kansai region), it would be unreadable on a map of Japan. Ideally one could have an inset map of the Kansai region with cities marked but that's probably too much work for such a simple map. bamse (talk) 10:52, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Looks like someone else took care of the request, which is good since I don't have the time right now... ZooFari 00:19, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Quick edit request

Hey Zoo. I was hoping you could make a quick edit to this. Could you remove all the white fill from the image and make the white fill transparent? Specifically, white is used on the ring, the football, the scroll, the paint palette, and the book with THS on it. Also, the quarter note that overlaps the bit T has a white outline; can that be transparent too? Btw, our website has been updated and the fruits of your labor used on every page! upstateNYer 18:08, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Good to know :-). However, it isn't letting me upload a new version because there's already a file under the same name at Commons. What do I do? ZooFari 00:51, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Auto-review

Hm. I was about to add you to 'auto-reviewed', when I noticed that you have twice been added to that usergroup, and twice asked to be removed.

May I ask what was your reasoning in this? The only real purpose of 'auto-reviewed' is to reduce my personal workload (well, okay, I'm not the only one who handles NPP, but it seems that I do more of it than anyone else; both auto-review and its predecessor JVBbot were implemented specifically because of me, the NPP interface was modified specifically because of me, etc etc etc). It basically means "we can trust that this user isn't going to put inappropriate stuff on Wikipedia, deliberately or otherwise"... and "this user puts new stuff on Wikipedia often enough that it's more efficient to just approve all of it pre-emptively".

So... what's your problem with it? DS (talk) 14:00, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

I don't really create articles as much as one who needs autoreviewer. The two times for the request back is because I started finishing up some taxonomy articles. But then you might ask why I can't just stick with it anyways. Many people at requests for autoreviewer see this flag as such a big deal that they think they are going to stand up over others. As a matter of fact, people given autoreviewer don't really need it but are given the flag anyways. Maybe it makes them feel special or something. I don't see it that way so I don't bother keeping the flag around. You can restore my rights if you would like, but it wouldn't really matter hence I don't create articles often. Autoreviewer does not benefit the person who receives it, it benefits the person who gives it. It shouldn't be seen as some sort of 'badge'. And you've created almost 150 valid articles. DS (talk) 00:01, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Exactly. That's my point though, other users see it as a badge but I don't. I don't create articles often but feel free to flag me regardless (hence this doesn't benefit me, but others instead). ZooFari 00:20, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Incidentally, you're consistently misusing "hence". It doesn't mean "because", it means "therefore". DS (talk) 11:30, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
I know, I got that bad habit. I actually mean "therefore" it's just that I constantly use it in parenthesis (hence you probably assume I'm lazy at grammar). :-) ZooFari 22:18, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

3. I recently added a recent changes patroller user box to my user page and I keep finding vandalism. How do warn the users and then report the vandalism to Administrators.--Zink Dawg -- 15:50, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

4. Do you like my Signature?--Zink Dawg -- 15:50, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

I'll answer them in order:

1. A photograph is better than nothing! If you have better ones, we obviously want those, but you're the uploader so it's up to you. By the way, upload photos of your own to Commons, which is another project page for images. You have to create an account over there, but you can enable global account by going to your preferences here in Wikipedia. Enabling will create an account for you to several Wikimedia projects identical to the one right here, so you can login on Commons using the same username and password.

2. Thank you for patrolling. Only administrators have the tools to delete pages, so we tag the articles. Be sure to read this before tagging for speedy deletion. That page also lists available deletion tags. You might want to consider adding WP:TWINKLE, which displays extra tabs that allows you to tag articles easily.

3. Enabling Twinkle (see above) is the easiest way to do this. Eventually you will want to use rollback but you need to gain a little more experience with vandal fighting before you apply.

4. Absolutely. Navy and blue are by favorite colors! ZooFari 16:24, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I was having internet problems. I'm still here. Thanks for your help.--Zink Dawg -- 17:42, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

What do you think?

I could quite possibly be pushing it here, but what do you think about doing an SVG similar to this, based on this and this? Think you can/want to do it? upstateNYer 18:29, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Wow, that's alot of detail :). I don't know. I'm kinda parched with SVGs right now, but I might be able to get it over the weekend. Sounds okay? ZooFari 22:21, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Don't take it unless you've got the time. Just to clear up, I'd be asking only for the building, no trees, etc. upstateNYer 23:36, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
I think I'll have time :-) ZooFari 22:25, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
