Re: Gamma Delta Psi deletion[edit]

Hello - thanks for the message. I had to dig back to find an article deleted more than eight months ago, but I found it and I've reviewed the situation.

I deleted the article as an expired proposal for deletion. J Milburn made the proposal on April 18, 2008, and I was the admin who went through the proposed deletion articles for that date. The claims in the template about primary sources and the lack of references were valid and no one objected over the five-day period. In essence, I agreed with the nominator, so I deleted it.

This article had several problems. First, it apparently contained text from only one source, which was the group itself. Reliable sources don't include self-published material - in other words, there wasn't a third-party source given that could verify the article's content. Wikipedia's standard is not truth, but verifiability. I also suspect that a large portion of the article was cut-and-paste from the group's website, based on the HTML and sentence structure in the actual content of the edit box.

In addition, the page was created and solely edited - apart from vandals and from passersby adding tags like {{unreferenced}} and {{primary sources}} - by only one editor, User:Gammapsieta, who edited no other articles. As a non-administrator, you will not see any edits if you view Gammapsieta's user contributions because they have all been to deleted articles. However, he/she has made 23 edits to Wikipedia, all to the articles or talk pages of Gamma Psi (5 edits) and Gamma Delta Psi (18 edits).

Finally, other than the aforementioned vandals and tags, the article had not been edited at all for more than three months. (Again, you cannot see the details as a non-administrator, but feel free to contact another admin if you doubt my statements and would like them checked.)

I would be happy to provide the text of the article to you. However, before creating a new article about this group, please ensure it meets the notability standards and the specific notability standards for groups and organizations.

I hope I've answered your questions; if not, please let me know. Thanks again for the message, and happy new year - KrakatoaKatie 02:16, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
