Federer - Roddick[edit]

Great work on the Federer-Roddick rivalry article. Irish Wolfhound (talk) 08:03, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks man, it's nice to see someone appreciate my writing for once. I dunno how many articles I've had deleted already, so I don't expect the Roddick-Federer article to last long before someone finds a reason to delete it but hey whatever happens happens. Zup326 (talk) 02:01, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
@Irish Wolfhound, I'm not sure if you're still even on Wikipedia, but nearly six years later I've looked over the history of that article to find that it had in fact been deleted in 2010 with almost no discussion, and then it was brought back and recreated from scratch in 2012. I gave up writing on it in 2009 and would still be quite leery of contributing there despite the fact that the article has survived for three years. It's amusing to read some of my old writing on that article from the 2009 version though. Zup326 (talk) 14:56, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2014 Wimbledon final[edit]

Hey,

I'd just like to thank you for your effortless contributions to the 2014 Wimbledon men's final page on Wikipedia. It was indeed a very significant final, must be said.

Hi Zup326,

Just wondering whether you'd like to help me in working on the 2009 Australian Open – Men's Singles final article, would be much appreciated. I still remember your hard work from the 2014 Wimbledon Championships – Men's Singles final article, your efforts were much appreciated.

Regards, MasterMind5991 (talk) 05:24, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@MasterMind5991, thanks again. Good work there. I'll see what I can contribute for the article when I've got some spare time. I remember that final well enough at least. At the moment I'm still busy following this year's Australian Open and hopefully it'll have an epic final as well. The 2013 French Open semi with Nadal and Djokovic is probably worthy of its own article too, even though it was not a final it's been called the greatest match ever on clay by many notable tennis experts. Just a quick question, what are your thoughts on having articles for highly notable semifinals as well? The 2005 Australian Open semifinal with Federer and Safin is another example of one of the best matches ever played at the semifinal stage. Zup326 (talk) 06:12, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Good question. I think both those matches you mentioned (2005 Australian Open semi-final, 2013 French Open semi-final) are worthy of their own articles, as well as maybe the 2009 Australian Open semi-final between Nadal and Verdasco. However, at this stage I have not seen separate articles detailing pre-final matches (except that Isner-Mahut match at Wimbledon which went forever). So just wait and see. MasterMind5991 (talk) 07:12, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@MasterMind5991, if there's ever a discussion on the subject anywhere, I would recommend the following matches as worthy of having their own article:
  • 2005 Australian Open SF - Federer/Safin (Federer's only loss in a non-clay major from 2004 to 2007)
  • 2006 Rome final - Nadal/Federer (one of the best clay matches ever, the longest match in the Federer/Nadal rivalry)
  • 2009 French Open SF - Federer/del Potro (highly important match regarding Federer's French Open win)
  • 2009 US Open final - Federer/del Potro (the end of Federer's US Open run, del Potro winning the rematch)
  • 2012 Olympic SF - Federer/del Potro (longest three set match in the Open era)
  • 2013 French Open SF - Nadal/Djokovic (considered by many to be the greatest match ever played on clay)
  • 2013 Wimbledon SF - Djokovic/del Potro (longest Wimbledon SF in history)
I'm just mentioning these here for future consideration or reference. I'm fine with waiting of course and am in no rush to create any article myself. For what it's worth, I would probably not be interested in writing about the Nadal/Verdasco match because Verdasco is not a Grand Slam champion and has never had a notable tennis season. In fact, that single match is really the only notable tennis result of Verdasco's career and it's the only major semifinal he's ever been in. Although it was a great match indeed. Zup326 (talk) 19:16, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Of that list, I would think that only the 2009 US Open Men's final would be worthy of its own article. Rarely do non-Grand Slam finals and Grand Slam semi-finals get their own articles, but in this case I would think that the epic 2013 French Open semi between Djokovic and Nadal would be worthy of one as it is one of the greatest clay court matches of all time. Same for the Djokovic/Del Potro semi at Wimbledon the same year. MasterMind5991 (talk) 10:01, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
