Zavadyuk Volodymyr Yuriyovych (born 9 June 1987, Vinnytsia, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian producer, head of the department of Big Brave Events, Big Entertainment Shows 1+1 Media and a creative producer of the following projects: The Voice (Holos Krainy), The Voice. Kids (Holos. Dity), Dancing with the Stars, Masquerade, and Lip Sync Battle.[1][2][3][4][5]

Biography[edit]

Volodymyr Zavadyuk was born on June 9, 1987, in the city of Vinnytsia in a family of doctors. His grandfather is Volodymyr Zavadyuk, a well-known oncologist.[6] Volodymyr received his primary education at school N2, where he was an active student and school president.[7] As a child, he studied for five years at the Vinnytsia Children's Art School.

He began his journalistic career at the "Young Journalist" school working in the 33-channel newspaper. After graduation, he continued his studies at the Vinnytsia National Pirogov Memorial Medical University and the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Later, he continued his studies only at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.[8]

Activities[edit]

Volodymyr Zavadyuk began his professional career by working at the Channel 5 headquarters in the city of Vinnytsia. There he acquired his first and fundamental skills in creating and managing stories. Later, his work continued in the TV and radio company Premier and Vinnytsia in his native city. There he utilised his knowledge as a reporter, a news anchor and a host of a social-political talk show. Volodymyr moved to Kyiv and continued his creative activity in 2007. At the age of 20, he got a job on the Inter TV channel, after an offer to participate in The Details TV show. He was the second editor. He made briefings on the basic information of the video materials for presenters and prepared stories with different lengths.

STB[edit]

He came to the TV channel STB by the invitation of Oleksiy Mustafin. From 2008 to 2010, Volodymyr Zavadyuk worked as a correspondent in the News Windows TV program, that time the STB was attracting the biggest attention in the information environment.[9] The Windows show openly emphasizes the shortcomings of the government and are distinguished by a non-standard presentation.[10] For two years in a row, news on STB has been recognized as the best information program in the country, and correspondents have been awarded the Teletriumph television award three times. Volodymyr Zavadyuk worked in the information direction for two years, after which he moved to the field of Entertainment shows, where he worked from 2010 to 2012.

Zavadyuk began his path in the field of entertainment shows by working on the projects X Factor and Ukraine's Got Talent. The initial direction was direct inclusion of the projects in the stories of the News Windows program.

Later, he continued his work in Ukraine's Got Talent and X Factor as the editor-in-chief of the post-show, and became the editor-in-chief of Ukraine's Got Talent, and was the presenter of these projects.

1+1[edit]

Volodymyr Zavadyuk's work at 1+1 media began in 2013 under the leadership of Oleksandr Tkachenk. Together with Oleg Bondarchuk he was the main screenwriter of the 4th season of The Voice of the Country.[11] He continued work on the 5th season of The Voice of the Country as the second creative producer.

On the direct initiative of Volodymyr Zavadyuk, the department of big entertainment shows named Big Entertainment Shows was created. During the work of the new team on the projects under the leadership of Zavadyuk, they were able to increase their popularity on Ukrainian television.

During the full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine, the Big Entertainment Show was transformed into Big Brave Events under his leadership, a structure engaged in the creation of multi-genre international projects, concerts and events. Such a step was taken for worldwide support of Ukraine in the fight against the Russian Federation and for closer cooperation with international productions.[12] One of the key visions of Big Brave Events is to create content even for non-TV viewers.

He created such shows as The Voice of the Country, The Voice. Kids, Dancing with the Stars, Masquerade, Lip Sync Battle, and Little Giants. He was the organizer of a number of concerts, live concerts, and musical films.[13] During Zavadyuk's leadership, most of the projects became the highest-rated shows on Ukrainian television.

Dancing with the Stars[edit]

Dancing with the Stars is part of the worldwide franchise Dancing with the Stars. Started in Ukraine in September 2006, five seasons of the show were held under the leadership of Volodymyr Zavadyuk. In 2018, Dancing with the Stars won the BBC Studios award for the most ironic production in the world. Also it won three Teletriumph statuettes.[14]

Voice of the Country[edit]

In total, Zavadyuk organized more than 10 seasons of Voice of the Country as a creative producer. The introduction of new effective organisation methods helped the project to receive a positive feedback from the Ukrainian audience, as it became one of the most popular and recognizable television projects in Ukraine. At the same time, it proved itself as an effective platform to promote talented performers and to develop musical culture in the country.[15]

In 2020 Volodymyr Zavadyuk and the 1+1 media team, during the complete lockdown, continued their activities on the Voice of the Country show in online format. The Voice of the Country superfinal was a high-tech show in which linear television and digital became closes than ever. They used virtual reality technologies to organise the Voice of the Country superfinal, the audience and coaches were connected through the Zoom. Thus, the Voice of the Country final became the first show in the world of The Voice format, which was held in full in online format with the involvement of the latest technologies.

In 2022, the live broadcast of The Voice of the Country took place in the Kyiv metro.[1] It was the world's first live broadcast of a large-scale project that was held at a metro station. During filming, the work of the subway and rolling stock did not stop.

Voice. Kids[edit]

Volodymyr Zavadyuk was the creative producer of the vocal show Voice. Kids.[16] Four seasons were created under his leadership. The project received two Teletriumph awards.

Little Giants[edit]

Volodymyr Zavadyuk was the producer of the Little Giants project, which was designed for talented kids of 4 to 12 years: dancers, singers, and kids with unusual skills.[17]

Masquerade[edit]

In Masquerade he works as a producer of the project. Masquerade is an adaptation of the Romanian format Mysteries in the Spotlight, where stars wearing fantastic costumes show off a variety of hidden talents: dance, vocals, acrobatics, illusionism and more.[18]

Lip Sync Battle[edit]

The entire Big Entertainment Shows team worked on the Lip Sync Battle project under the leadership of Volodymyr Zavadyuk.[19] The adaptation of world-famous show formats made for the TV channel 1+1 under the leadership of Volodymyr Zavadyuk have been repeatedly recognized as one of the best in the world. Thus, The Voice of the Country and Dancing with the Stars were several times included in the top five adaptations in the world according to the version of international media.

Concerts[edit]

Parallel to his main activity in Big Entertainment Shows, Volodymyr Zavadyuk was a producer of big concert shows for such stars as: MONATIK, Dan Balan, Tina Karol, Okean Elzy, Olya Polyakova, Jamala and others.[20][21] Some of these projects were conducted live.

The Ark «Ukraine»[edit]

The Ark «Ukraine» project was organized with the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Information Policy of Ukraine, the Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko, Yaryna Vynnytska, and the team of the 1+1 TV channel headed by Volodymyr Zavadyuk. Ten centuries of Ukrainian music in one concert - a concert unique in its direction, which combined folklore and classical music, national cultural heritage, visual arts and the latest technologies in one performance.[24] The main producers of the show were “TRI. Direction».

Eurovision 2023[edit]

The team of the 1+1 Big Brave Events TV channel, led by Volodymyr Zavadyuk, in collaboration with the Suspilne television and radio company and BBC One created the opening performance of the Eurovision 2023 grand final. The performance was created together with the world-famous Eurovision director Tim Van Someren. The surprise of the performance was the appearance of the Princess of Wales Kate Middleton. The future queen played a fragment of Stefania's song on the piano in the crimson drawing room in Windsor Castle.[25][26]

Filming took place in locations that have become iconic for many Ukrainians - Independence Square and the Kyiv metro. The animation of Maria Prymachenko's painting called "A Dove Has Spread Her Wings and Asks for Peace" from 1982 and works of famous Banksy done in Ukraine[25] were used as the opening number.

In 2022, Volodymyr Zavadyuk became the producer of such charity projects as:

  • Telethon "Save Ukraine — #StopWar from Berlin and Kyiv".[32]
  • International marathon "Embrace Ukraine — #StrivingTogether in Amsterdam»[33]
  • Song of my life[34]
  • National charity marathon «You’re not alone".[35][36]

Concerts, telethons and television broadcasts were organized after the beginning of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. The main idea behind the creation of this type of project is financial, moral and political support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in the fight against the Russian Federation.

Save Ukraine - #StopWar (Warsaw)[edit]

This is one of the large-scale charity telethons in the history of Ukrainian television, which took place on March 27 on the basis of the Polish television channel TVP. More than 30 TV channels around the world simultaneously broadcast the project, a total of 80 million people from all continents watched the telethon live. Residents of more than 50 cities and capitals took to the streets to support Ukraine and join the telethon, 30 world political leaders addressed Ukrainians and the international community. More than 17 million people were united by a communication campaign in media and social networks.[37][38]

Match for peace #StopWarInUkraine (European countries)[edit]

In April, a series of charity matches of Kyiv "Dynamo" started in support of Ukraine, organized together with "1+1 media" under the leadership of Volodymyr Zavadyuk. As of the end of July, 10 games have already been played in Poland, Turkey, Croatia, Germany, Romania, Switzerland, Estonia, Spain, Belgium and Great Britain.[31] These are not just matches, but real football, artistic and anti-war spectacles that draw attention of the sport world and the international community to the dramatic events happened in Ukraine as a result of the war with the Russian Federation.[39] The matches had a strong social component — temporarily displaced people who were in one or another city were invited to participate in the performances.[40] In total, more than UAH 35,000,000 was collected during charity matches and other related events.[31]

Song of my life[edit]

On November 27, 2022, a special episode of Finland's popular format show "Song of my life" premiered. This issue, dedicated to Ukraine, was jointly developed by the Finnish production company "Yellow Film & TV" and the Ukrainian media company "1+1 media" headed by Volodymyr Zavadyuk and "FILM.UA Group».[41]

You’re not alone[edit]

On Christmas Day, December 25, 2022, at 9:00 p.m. on TV channels "TET" and "1+1" Ukraine, TV viewers saw a big Christmas project called «You’re not alone", which was created by the "Big Brave Events 1+1 media" team led by Volodymyr Zavadyuk together with the "Atlas" festival.[42] The project «You’re not alone" became the best music program of the day according to viewing figures on the "Kyivstar TV" platform.[35]

The total amount of the charity fund from all the projects carried out was more than UAH 100,000,000[31].

Educational activity[edit]

Volodymyr Zavadyuk actively participates in the educational sector.[13] He is a speaker at many lecture events at conferences in universities and beyond, and is also a participant in educational online and offline platforms at the "1+1 media school" sites.[12]

Personal life[edit]

Volodymyr Zavadyuk, as a supporter of a healthy lifestyle, is engaged in swimming and fitness.[46]

He is a member of the LGBT community and he supports its equal rights and freedoms. He is openly gay[47] and currently in a relationship. Volodymyr does not cover the details of his personal life, but remains open about various social and cultural issues. He publicly supports human rights.
