The Wichita Monrovians were a Negro league baseball team in the 1920s. The team beat the KKK in a baseball match in 1925.[1] They were formerly known as the Black Wonders and were later incorporated as the Monrovian Corporation.[1] They were named after the Liberian capital Monrovia.[1] They apparently won 44 games out of 52 in 1925.[2]

The Game against the KKK[edit]

On June 21st 1925 the KKK wanted to improve their image so decided to have a match against a Negro league baseball team. The game was decided to be against the Wichita Monrovians, the Ku Klux Klan would send out Wichita Klan 6. There was a statement sent out in the newspapers "no strangleholds, razors, horsewhips and other violent implements of argument are allowed". Irish Catholics served as umpires so the KKK could try and make the gain more "we're not that racist" points (as the KKK also targets catholics).

Eventually the Monrovians won 10-8.
