VeblenBot task 5[edit]

Operator: — Carl (CBM · talk)

Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic

Programming Language(s): Perl

Function Summary: Creates pages that apply a template to the contents of a category, like User:VeblenBot/C/Requests for peer review

Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Continuous

Edit rate requested: once per hour, one edit per category being tracked

Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y

Function Details:

This uses a toolserver query [1] to get the contents of a category along with the timestamp each page was added to the category. A file is created with one line per page, with each page being fed into a template. This file is uploaded into the bot's user space, but it can be transcluded elsewhere of course. The idea is to use this to automate Wikipedia:Peer review and possibly other pages subject to consensus about automating them.

Update 2008-3-1: the bot no longer uses the toolserver, since the API now returns the timestamps when articles were added to a category.
