Decentralize

VFD is one centralized page per day. Some people believe that this is not a good idea for a variety of reasons. It may be possible to replace the current system by a non-centralized system, for instance utilizing categories, or the articles' talk pages. This page is for discussion to that end, as a result of the main discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion reform.

Problems with VFD that would be solved with this system

• Scale -- currently it is extremely difficult for any user to keep up with the throughput on VfD, which routinely exceeds 100 pages per day. This greatly reduces the likelihood of informed debate.

Problems with VFD that would not be solved with this system

• Lack of civility -- this won't make people any nicer, although the lack of a centralized "stage" might reduce the incentive for troll-like behavior.

Issues with VFD that might become a problem under this system

• Tracking -- however the system is implemented, there must be some way of making sure that deletion debates don't get lost.

I think it could. Although Pure Wiki in its purest form would do away with deletion debates entirely, in practice there would be enough contentious cases that a categorization system would still be helpful. -- Visviva 14:29, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

Pure Wiki (WP:PWDS) would not do away with deletion debates, only reduce them. Contested pages would still be sent to AfD (or similar), in the same way that Uncontested_deletions retains a forum for contested deletions based on the model of AfD. That I've seen, there is no viable proposal to do away with discussion of contested deletions (nor should there be). ∴ here…♠ 07:07, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
