Small fixes to the current process[edit]

Some of the suggestions mentioned above can be implemented quite easily. These changes will not solve all of the (real or imagined) problems with the deletion process, but they can be implemented quickly.

  • Use daily deletion categories. This is already possible: see my suggestion at Template talk:Vfd. The current process already puts nominated articles in a category; it is easy to change this to one category per day. (If necessary, the daily category can be an in addition to the overall category, instead of a replacement.)
  • Discussion on the article talk page. There is no reason why the current subpages cannot also be transcluded into the article talk page. The pages probably should be set off from the rest of the page with a colorful background, and some helpful edit links should be inserted, but that can easily be done with a template.

Another possible change: instead of the VfD subpages being a subpage of Wikipedia:Votes for deletion, they could be a subpage of the talk page of the article. So: Talk:Stupid article/Vote for deletion instead of Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Stupid article.

I don't think that these changes would be particularly controversial, as they do not change the process much for those people who prefer the current format (I'm one of them, by the way); and therefore they can be implemented quickly. Would these changes be considered improvements by those who dislike the current process? Eugene van der Pijll 23:14, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure you need daily deletion categories if you still have the Wikipedia:Votes for deletion pages.
Is it possible to make it so the discussion shows up at both Talk:Stupid article/Vote for deletion and Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Stupid article.
How about adding subcategories for VfDs.
Here's what I'd like to see, but I don't know if its possible.
  • Only one step to listing article for deletion.
  • Discussion occurs on article's Talk page.
  • VfDs can have categories: People, Places, Things, etc. Could parallel stub categories for example.
  • Dynamic pages are created where you can see all VfDs, or all VfDs in a category. These pages are not just links, the discussion is mirrored here (so that they look similar to current VfD pages).
Not sure about the technical issues of my suggestions, but it seems to cover many people's issues (excluding the "Wikify the deletion process" people -- who are essentially advocating turning deletion into the same thing as blanking a page). Chuck 00:10, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
