Original – 35 Vietnamese refugees wait to be taken aboard the amphibious command ship USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19). They are being rescued from a 35 foot fishing boat 350 miles northeast of Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, after spending eight days at sea.
Reason
While the image quality can be made better, I think this image is historically significant because it captured a moment in time during the height of the Vietnamese refugee crisis during the 1970s and 1980s. This image succinctly illustrates the plight of the boat people at the time, showing the cramped condition of the boat and showing men, women, and children at the moment they are rescued after being at sea for days.

  • Weak Support -- I think we can ignore the slight problems with image quality due to historical significance. Could do with a better name than Vietnamese Boat People waiting rescue though. Zibart (talk) 21:23, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
