Australian Jazz Museum (AJM) and Wikipedia[edit]
Australian Jazz Museum is a museum located in Wantirna, Victoria. It incorporates the Victorian Jazz Archive and also houses the Australian Jazz Convention's extensive collection of material within its premises.
Its extensive collection includes discs, audio cassettes, posters, books, photographs, instruments and ephemera includes works by such Australian Jazz luminaries as Graeme Bell, Bob Barnard, Ade Monsbourgh, Smacka Fitzgibbon and Frank Traynor together with magazines, periodicals and newspaper articles on Australian jazz musicians and many international performers.
Introduction to Wikipedia at AJM Feb 2023[edit]
On Feb 14 2023, Wikimedia Australia hosted an Introduction to Wikipedia event. Participants learnt how to edit a page and contribute Australian jazz content to Wikipedia.
Editing suggestions[edit]
There are many different ways for you to contribute today. Wikipedia is the product of millions of individual contributions and every change that is made, no matter how small, makes a difference!
We’ve prepared a list of suggested subjects and assembled some preliminary sources to get you started. Keep in mind Wikipedia’s Conflict of Interest guidelines when selecting your subject to make sure it is appropriate for you to make the edits.
Instructions[edit]
- Choose a subject from the table below. Write your username in the last column so different people don't work on the same page during the event. After the event anyone is able to edit any page.
- If the subject is living, please read and follow the guidelines in Wikipedia: Biographies of living persons, for both new pages and editing existing ones.
- If there is already a page for that subject, check the Talk page for any comments or suggested edits and check the Article page for any templates with suggestions for improvements.
- Use Australian English and spelling.
Categories[edit]
Categories are listed at the end of a wikipedia article. Categories can help group articles with similarities.
Suggested Categories for Biography or jazz related pages are, but not limited to:
- Australian jazz musicians
- Jazz festivals in Australia
- Jazz clubs in Australia
- yyyy births
- yyyy deaths
- 20th-century Australian musicians
- 21st-century Australian musicians
Also, look at categories in articles similar to those you are editing to get more category ideas.
Things to remember[edit]
- Add links to everything you can, including place names, institutions, occupations, other people, genres (e.g. Swing music, Bebop) etc.)
- Use the Talk page to provide further justification for any changes you’ve made to existing information on the page (such as changing a date of birth), and remember to reply if people @ you!
