July 14[edit]

deleted image[edit]

Can someone tell me what happened to Image:Trump Chicago floor diagram.JPG. I can not find it at WP:IFD.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 03:07, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was speedied. Here's from the deletion log: "23:44, 13 July 2008 Melesse (Talk | contribs | block) deleted 'Image:Trump Chicago floor diagram.JPG' ‎ (Speedy deleted per (CSD I7), was an image with an invalid fair use rationale and the uploader was notified more than 48 hours ago. using TW)." bibliomaniac15 03:11, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was notified to request assistance from the WP:GL. I did so immediately. I recieved no talk page notice of the imminent deletion possibility. I can fix the fair use if you can restore the image or recreate the improperly deleted image.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 03:21, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to say you can discuss with the deleting administrator at User talk:Melesse but I see you are already doing that. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:44, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Utah State Cleanup[edit]

I've recently been working a little on cleaning up the Utah State University page. One particular section, on USU's OpenCourseWare seems to be in pretty bad need of a grammar and structure overhaul. I'd do it myself, but I don't really know anything about OpenCourseWare. Is there a way to tag it for grammar cleanup so someone with a better understanding of the subject could rework it? Also, any input to the discussion on that Talk:Utah_State_University page about the external links would be greatly appreciated. DaRkAgE7[Talk] 03:24, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It can be tagged with {{Grammar}}. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:28, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

job interview[edit]

If the interviewer asked me to tell me about myself, What is the appropriate answer will I give? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.60.235.204 (talkcontribs)

There is no correct answer, just tell the interviewer about yourself, your interests, your strengths, and what you enjoy to do. Also, in the future, Wikipedia probably is not the place to ask questions like this. Good luck on the interview though. « Gonzo fan2007 (talkcontribs) @ 04:31, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You may find something useful in Job interview. --Teratornis (talk) 19:18, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where is a page...[edit]

I'm sure there is a page somewhere where you suggest/discuss potential new WMF projects, but I can't seem to locate it. Am I using the wrong search terms, or did I just imagine it? Is it perhaps somewhere else, e.g. meta? Richard001 (talk) 08:17, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's at meta:Requests for new languages for new languages of any existing project, and meta:Proposals for new projects for everything else. Someguy1221 (talk) 08:23, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, the latter one is what I was looking for. Thanks. Richard001 (talk) 08:27, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Other languages added to Wikipedia[edit]

Hi I am wondering how you get to add other languages to Wikipedia. I often use wikipedia for information and always have to translate my questions before I am able to use the site.

I would love to see Afrikaans added to your list of languages.

Would that be possible?

email address removed —Preceding unsigned comment added by Verncom (talkcontribs) 09:03, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is, in fact, an Afrikaans Wikipedia, which you can find here. You can find the full list of official Wikipedias here. And the page to request a new language is here. And I appologize if this has inconvenienced you (assuming you read this response), but the help desk does not respond to questions via email. Someguy1221 (talk) 09:23, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Slow link to Wikipedia and unavailability of images[edit]

59.99.16.27 (talk) 10:26, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Despite of having a broadband connection,it is taking about two or three minutes to link to the wikipedia and other pages since yesterday. Also the images on the linked page are not being displayed.59.99.16.27 (talk) 10:26, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe it is a localised problem. Something to do with your own internet browser. I am using Internet Explorer with a broadband connection, and I'm having no problem with it. I don't know how others are faring, but I doubt it is a problem directly associated with this website. Lradrama 10:54, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are some options not to see images on Wikipedia, if that would help. -- Natalya 11:28, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rt, I just solved the problem with images... try resetting either: A/ your router if you have one, or B/ your Broadband modem. '''''Andrew Marsden''''' (talk) 16:44, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to a specific page[edit]

Is there a tool to get the edits of a user to one or more specific page(s)? Such as all edits to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/*. Something like this, but more specific? Cheers, Face 12:49, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know if this is what you mean, http://toolserver.org/~interiot/cgi-bin/Tool1/wannabe_kate?username=Face&site=en.wikipedia.orgchandler — 12:56, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but no, that's not it. Wannabe_kate displays the number of edits to a specific page. It does not give a list of the actual edits to that page (like here). Cheers, Face 13:56, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One of Interiot's tools does that, I think, but it appears to be broken right now. The link is [1], anyhow. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 14:13, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page looks different, when logged in or logged out[edit]

I recently edited Template:Location map Haiti however my recent edit does not show up when I'm logged in, it does however when I'm logged out. I tried this on IE and Firefox. When I'm logged in I can still access the latest revision by clicking in the history however. Also the pages which transclude the template, show the correct latest version. I remember something like from a while ago with the Hitler article being vandalised, but not visible to users who were logged in. Anyone know how to fix this ? Jackaranga (talk) 15:27, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did you try purging? Xenon54 15:32, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah thank you that did it. Jackaranga (talk) 15:36, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

T:ITN (which is transcluded on the main page) currently includes Image:AMAZONAS.jpg, (under a different name) , currently nominated for speedy deletion as a copyvio of http://misscontest.blogspot.com/2008/03/dayana-mendoza-miss-venezuela-2007.html. Should it be removed. Anonymous101 (talk) 15:36, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This has been listed at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Possible copyright violation on the Main Page. Those interested should respond there. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 15:51, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding button (next previous)[edit]

Hi, I wonder, if there's a way to add buttons (next previous) to navigate between images to my own image gallery at my user page. Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 16:50, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I do not think there is a way to do that. I would think that only way to transverse between images would be to go back the gallery and move onto the next one. Sorry, Leonard(Bloom) 20:05, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can use {{click}} to link an image to a page. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 20:34, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When will article appear?[edit]

Hope I'm in the right place. I didn't find a more appropriate place to ask this.

I wrote a short piece on an area where I live called Whiteway, Bath.

The item appears when you enter "Whiteway, Bath" into the search engine but it does not appear for "Whiteway" on its own. I would like to change that. How?

138.38.80.214 (talk) 16:55, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Articles don't appear on disambiguation pages automagically, someone has to put them there. I've editted Whiteway to do this. Algebraist 16:59, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I Can't Find the Right Template[edit]

I've been looking for over half an hour for a template I'm pretty sure exists. I know I've seen it somewhere before but it is being ever-so-elusive now. It's the disclaimer template you can put on top of a draft or copy of an article that is in your sandbox. I've searched through WP:TM and the related categories. Have I gone insane? Am I imagining things? Am I staring it in the face and not realizing it?

I'm overhauling an article in my sandbox and would like to put a disclaimer on it to distinguish it from the article namespace. I know I could throw something together, but I'm a little compulsive about conformity; if there is a template I'd like to use that one. Thanks! --gardsmyg (talk) 17:41, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can pick something from Category:Under-construction templates. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:48, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Try {{User Sandbox}}  – ukexpat (talk) 17:51, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming an image[edit]

Is it possible to rename an image previously uploaded on here? 79.75.226.107 (talk) 18:41, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, the previous image will have to be deleted and recreated with a new name. —Mizu onna sango15/Discuss 18:47, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help with delicate issue[edit]

Hello :) I have a problem. I am a registered user of Wikipedia, but in another language, which I would like not to mention yet, as the problem I'm refering to is delicate. Going straight to the point, I feel, and based on my reasoning capacity, I understand, that I've been unfairly banned from that Wikipedia, with a bann for undefined period of time. Before explaining that situation, I would like to ask the Help Desk a simple question, as Jimbo Wales suggests in his user page for us to do. This simple question is, then, if I can be helped by the Help Desk in the matter I'd explained at the top of the paragraph. Finaly, coming back to the issue "unfair bann", and just for a bit wider introduction, I'd like to explain that I was banned for undefined period of time by an administrator whom in his justification alleged that he had the authority to ban me using the policy "ignore all rules" and based merely in a supposition and that the administrator that revised my defence didn't invite me to talk about it, but merely confirmed the mentioned supposition as consistent proof of my guiltiness and closed the two-sentence refutation of my complaint with a personal remark clearly mocking me and celebrating my banning, even though I had no relation wathsoever with both administrators. I must say also that I have benn user of that wikipedia for just one month and that I have contributed in many articles in that wikipedia, such as the biography of the brithish philosopher and novelist "Olaf Stapledon", and the articles "Moral Value", "Justice", "Truth" (in agreement with another wikipedist), "Order" and "Axiology". All this articles in the language of the Wikipedia I was registered in. Thanks for answering, Darío —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.232.196.17 (talk) 19:42, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not clear to me what the Help Desk can do for you here. You could raise the issue at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. – ukexpat (talk) 19:59, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see, thank you. Darío —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.232.196.17 (talk) 20:01, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copying a page[edit]

I'm trying to copy a paragraph on your website and I am not able to copy and paste Please help Thank you very much —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gr8astro (talkcontribs) 20:02, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What browser are you copying from, and what application are you pasting to? What happens when you try to copy and paste? When you talk about our website, you do mean Wikipedia, right? (I ask because I have no trouble at all copying from Wikipedia, and because some people ask questions in this forum about other websites.) —teb728 t c 20:54, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Subpages[edit]

The pages Wikipedia:Votes for best User page/Archive and Wikipedia:Votes for best User page/Archive/2006/May exist, but Wikipedia:Votes for best User page does not. Should they be deleted? Before I Die (talk) 22:48, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Archive page is being considered for deletion. I don't see why the March archive could not be considered also. TNX-Man 23:01, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually as I found out later, the main page had already been deleted. I only listed the main page with a link [2], because that page is 1 of 11 pages. NanohaA'sYuriTalk, My master 23:19, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

create an account[edit]

I am trying to create an account on "weatherpedia". But i get this.

Login error:There was either an external authentication database error or you are not allowed to update your external account.

Please help? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.91.138.108 (talk) 23:09, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure how much we can help you here... You might want to contact their support staff of Weatherpedia. A link to their contact page can be found here. I hope this helps. NanohaA'sYuriTalk, My master 23:13, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In case NanohaA'sYuri wasn't clear on this, let me say that this is the help desk for questions about Wikipedia, which is in no way affiliated to WeatherPedia. This is not a place you are likely to get help. Algebraist 23:16, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are apparently different sites called Weatherpedia. I guess you are referring to http://weatherpedia.easternuswx.com and not the site NanohaA'sYuri linked to, but it makes no difference. Wikipedia and http://weatherpedia.easternuswx.com use the same MediaWiki software but are otherwise unrelated. Wikipedia is a Wikimedia project and Weatherpedia is not. Weatherpedia has chosen to make some links to Wikipedia and to Wikimedia but that does not mean there is any association. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:29, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Was my account removed?[edit]

I used an account with the login name "aldomedina". However today I couldn't access anymore. I recreated the account using the same username without getting any error messages. I believe my previous editions were deleted. I remember the last article I edited was the "Click Mexicana"'s one, and I don't see my name anywhere in the history.

I want to know if this is a mistake I made, some technological problem, or some editorial problem.

Thanks for your help Aldomedina (talk) 23:58, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While it's technically possible that your account could have been renamed, that shouldn't have happened without your consent (and indeed request). It is impossible for an account to be deleted entirely. I'm afraid the most likely possibility is that you've just misremembered your username. Algebraist 00:07, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
{E/C} Since the errors you list are normally unlikely to occur and so much more unlikely in combination (accounts can't be deleted, except by developers; page histories are very robust and individual edits can only be removed from them by checkusers, barring crude deletion and restoration), I suspect that you attempted to create an account but it didn't actually take, and then when you edited, you did so under your ip address without realizing it. Is that possible? One way to check is to look at some of the edits to Click Mexicana by ips in or about the time you think you created you account using the radio buttons in the edit history to compare diffs.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:08, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The account you claim to previously have had was never created, the only creation of that account we have on record is from today, see here. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 00:12, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) Oversighters remove revisions. Not the same as checkusers, though there's considerable overlap. Algebraist 00:14, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you name one other article you edited? Then we could try to determine which account/IP edited both articles and narrow it down. —Wknight94 (talk) 00:18, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your quick answer. I also edited Las_Vegas, and my name is listed there. This will sound stupid, but if I signed as editor in the spanish wikipedia, I'm not editor in the english wikipedia? Maybe this is the "problem" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aldomedina (talkcontribs) 00:24, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, that would be a problem. In order for you to stay logged in when switching to the English Wikipedia, you need to have Single User Login enabled. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 00:27, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, you edited those articles on es.wikipedia. You can unify your different-wiki accounts at Special:MergeAccount. Algebraist 00:32, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
