Usage of material[edit]

On inserting Indian states in search bar one gets an alphab list of all states commencing with Andaman & Nicobar and ending with West Bengal. On the RIGHT of each page there is a logo and relevant details of each state; when was this compiled? I'm developing the definitive 'for India only'Environmental website - I live there 3/6 of 12 and am being assisted by several NGOs nationally and other govt 'faces'. I'd like to know how to use these details and the best way to.

It'd be easier just to have a www link directly to each page, so how to please.If some of these states details are found to be slightly incorrect or o-o-date does anyone mind them being changed. I'm just a retired -slightly MS - old man who is still not PC correct [ in more ways than one!] despite having a new Xmas present [ thanks to rich son ]oh well, needs must.

Please do not advertise your site on Wikipedia. The Help Desk is for questions about using Wikipedia, so I will try to answer those questions, but if you wish to advertise your site, there are other forums on the Internet where you can do that.

If you have a question on a specific article, it is helpful to write the title of the article here. The title of each page is at the very top in large font. From what you wrote, my guess is that you're either talking about States and territories of India or Template:India states. On Wikipedia pages, you can usually click on an image to find its information. On these pages, the only image there is File:India-states-numbered.svg which gives you information on the image and when it was uploaded. Every page, including articles, has a page history which can be accessed by pressing "history" on the top of the page. The page history lists every change was made, when each was made, and who made each change.

To get a permanent link to a page, on the left side under "toolbox", click "Cite this page". That will give you permanent link to use if you want to if you want to link to that version of the page. If you are going to reuse Wikipedia content on your site, you must give credit to Wikipedia for it.

If you see something that is incorrect on Wikipedia, anyone may change it, including you. Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone can edit almost any article by pressing "edit this page" at the top. You can be bold and edit it yourself, and if you make a mistake, someone else will fix it soon. If you find a mistake but don't wish to change it yourself, you can request the change here, but please be very specific and tell us what exactly you want changed and on what page. article an photo[edit]

Template:Fb and Template:Fb-rt[edit]

They stand for football and football-right. The templates display an image of a nation's flag and an internal link to that nation's national football team. {{fb}} puts the flag to the left of the team link, and {{fb-rt}} puts the flag to the right of the team link. --Mysdaao ^talk 18:34, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Extra code on top of new image[edit]

I put an image in the infobox for the article on singer Julian Casablancas. ([1]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Casablancas)

However, after I've edited the page with the new image, there is an extra code that is visible above and beneath the image. What's wrong?

You added the full image syntax to the infobox. You only need that if you're displaying an image on its own in an article. In an infobox, you only need the image name. You can see the documentation, including how to use images, at Template:Infobox musical artist. I need help with searching and disambiguation[edit]

There are now three films about Che Guevara. There is "Che Guevara", "Che!", and a new film made in two parts called "Che". I would like to make it easier for people to find and distinguish them. For beginners, people should be able to search for "Che film" and have all three appear in the drop down menu. All all three should also appear if someone searches for "Che Guevara". A disambiguation page may also be indicated. I am not sure of all the steps involved to accomplish these things. There are also several other pages about Guevara.

Currently there is a disambiguation page Che (disambiguation). The top of Che Guevara has a link to the disambiguation page, so if somebody searches for "Che Guevara", they will first go to the article and can see the link to the disambiguation page immediately. There is also now a redirect from Che film to Che (film). If you want to change the redirect to something else (such as the disambiguation page), go to Che film, and at the top you'll see "(Redirected from Che film)". Click on the "Che film" link and that will take you to the redirect page. Edit that page and you can change where it redirects to. --Mysdaao ^talk 20:54, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is a {{Che Guevara}} navigation template you could add to all the articles about him (which do not already display the template). See Wikipedia:Categories, lists, and navigation templates for an overview of navigation methods on Wikipedia. You probably cannot satisfy everyone who tries to use the search box, since you cannot predict all the different keywords people will try to search for something. The only kind of "drop down menu" is what pages are suggested in search bar when you type words in. That is a technical feature of Wikipedia, and users have no direct control over what appears or what order the pages are in. --Mysdaao ^talk 21:40, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2008-11-10/Search engine gives some hints. But note, we have zero information about how many people are searching in any particular way. You can only know how you would like to search for something, but once you know where an article is, you no longer need to search for it. Thus it is difficult to know whether a change that would have helped you search for something will help others, or how many others it will help.
