Need Help - Can't Login In After Enabled A Lot Of Profile Options.

Hi,

Good day.

I am new to wikipedia. i registered the account (<email address removed>). I enabed a lot of options at my profile setting area several days ago.

Then i found i can't login in with my account and passord again.

Always LOADING ....., then NO RESPONSE till time out.

Could you pelase reset my account with default personal profile setting?

If you registered your email with wikipedia, you can click the 'forgot password' button and resend the password to your email account. Otherwise, there's nothing anyone can do I'm afraid. Admins here don't have the ability to reset accounts. -- Bfigura ^(talk) 01:59, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

The 2008 championship game was for the 2007 season; the article is titled according to the year the game actually took place. What you're looking for is the 2009 BCS National Championship Game, which was the championship for the 2008 season. Xenon54 / talk / 01:42, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

How do I add more than one user page?

Thanks in advance for your help. I am contributing to the re-writing and editing of a topic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integral_Movement currently flagged with 7 issues, and it needs major work. Another editor created a "user page" for me http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Joeperez69 to begin the rewriting without disturbing the actual article. Then I wanted to create a version of a new template, and that editor created a template "user page" for me. I need to add another "user page", so I can draft another article, but I can find no information in Wikipedia's help system on how to do this. The page I want to create is a proposed new portal for the field of Integral Studies, and it must have multiple sub-pages. I may also need to create a model for a new category or list page. Odd characters

deleted page

I was attempting to create a biographical page about Andrew Norris, but as I began I was informed that a page of that name has been deleted several times before [twice in 2006 and once in 2007]. I was wondering why this has happened and is there any way to verify whether this is the same Andrew Norris [if it was deleted because of who the article was about]? It was deleted the first time because Andrew Norris (at the time) was deemed not notable enough to be included, the second time because the page was blanked, and the third time it was deleted because apparently someone made it into an attack page. Only administratrors can see the content of deleted pages. The first version of Andrew Norris was about a British amateur writer born in 1989. It said he made superhero comic strips and opposed the EU. The second version was created by mistake in an attempt to tag the first version as unreferenced right after it had been deleted. Will somebody please help me merging these 3 images to Wikimedia Commons? I can not do it myself.

At Commons there is a category named Steinway & Sons. The 3 images can be added to this category. (Regarding adding the right categories on Commons I can do that myself, but not the merging part).

Ref Frogmore Community College Entry

Incidental vandalism is common and no reason for protection. Only when the vandalism is multiple times a day or of significant severity, protection is applied. I assume you are related to the school. I note that it is possible with Internet Explorere 8 or Firefox to subscribe to THIS RSS feed. This makes it easier to see when changes were made to the article. Please be aware though that nobody owns articles, and that you should probably limit your activities to watching out for vandalism. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 12:20, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Admin Rights in Logs

I have noticed that a majority of the early admins (2002-2005/06) do not have a entry in the user rights log at either wikipedia or meta, these entries are related to both the addition of adminship and the removal of adminship. If someone with knowledge of this subject could help that would be great.

Further to my question, I noticed that some admins don't have logs for all their admin grants but have logs for all their desysop actions. Why is this. Desysops are mostly logged at meta:Special:Log/rights. Perhaps you are looking at admins who were sysop'd before the bureaucrat log, but desysop'd after the log. -- zzuuzz ^(talk) 13:24, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi can anyone tell me if wikipedia's google ranking anyaltics for specific keyword searchs are available to be veiwed or if information one can find out how many people searched wikepedia for a particular keyword?

Have you tried Wikipedia's Reference Desk? They specialize in knowledge questions and will try to answer just about any question in the universe (except how to use Wikipedia, since that is what this Help Desk is for). Login issue

In 2006 I've registered an account on en.wikipedia.org with my username User:René Schwarz, which is the same as in the German Wikipedia. Since this time my e-mail address changed several times and I've forgotten that old password. Now I'm trying to merge all my Wikipedia accounts together (single sign on), but I can't unlock my English account.

Could somebody change my old e-mail address to a new one? To assure that I'm the right owner of the account, I have created a small textbox on my userpage at German Wikipedia.

Are you asking to go back to a previous version of the image or to remove your edits from the logs?

If you want to revert to a previous version of the image, go to the page File:YsgolRhydywaunLogo.jpg, look at the bottom for the File history, and press "revert" next to the version of the image you want to go back to.

If you are asking to remove your edits from the page history and list of your contributions, that cannot be done. Previous edits are only deleted in certain rare circumstances like libel or the reveal or private information. Otherwise, all edits are kept in the page history. As I explained above, this or any other change can always be undone, so there's no need to delete edits from Wikipedia's history just because you made a mistake. --Mysdaao ^talk 18:19, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Delete image that I uploaded

Add the code {{db-g7}} anywhere on the page, which when saved will indicate that you would like to have the image deleted. Only administrators can delete images, so adding the code merely draws attention to the image so they can take appropriate action. If you want to ever re-upload the image, public domain and other freely licensed works should go to Wikimedia Commons so they can be used by any Wikimedia project. Thanks for volunteering to help out Wikipedia! Once you've signed up, you should spend some time familiarising yourself with Wikipedia's rules before you actually edit. After all, you wouldn't jump into the ocean without remembering your trunks first! Hi. Template {{Spaceflight lists and timelines}} previously linked to List of probes by operational status, but following a page move, that link was changed to point to List of active Solar System probes. However, Special:WhatLinksHere/List_of_probes_by_operational_status still shows masses of pages whose only connection with the target page appears to be the inclusion of said template. What's going on? Is there some sort of time delay on the update of the "What links here?" pages? Am I getting confused about something?

Second question: Regardless of the first issue, is there any way to exclude from the "What links here?" pages all those pages that only link via a navigational template?

Re the second question: I do not believe that is possible at the moment, as the software cannot tell the difference between a link in the page body and a link in a template included in that page body. It is currently only possible to hide transclusions (if the page is a template) and links from redirect pages. Xenon54 / talk / 22:05, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Re the first question: Eventually (meaning maybe in hours, maybe in days, maybe in weeks) the WP software will update the "What links here" page. You can also remove templated pages from Special:WhatLinksHere/List of probes by operational status individually by going to each and making a null edit, but that gets boring if there's a lot of them. (I'm pretty anal, so I've done that on occasion. Any page that gets normally edited before the site automatically catches up will, of course, be removed as well.) Patience is a virtue. Thanks Deor. I established that the "Hide Transclusion" option didn't do what I wanted, but I'm still baffled by what it does. Is it only supposed to have an effect with templates? If I go to Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Spaceflight_lists_and_timelines and choose this option I can't see any difference (except for the trivial suppression of the text "(transclusion)" against some entries). {{Spaceflight lists and timelines}} (and many other templates) links to itself on the letter "v" in the upper left corner (the template page itself displays a bold v instead of a link). Therefore, any page that transcludes the template will also link to the template, so "Hide transclusions" makes no difference in the pages listed at WhatLinksHere. See Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:OEIS for an example where it makes a big difference to hide transclusions. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:17, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Any page can be transcluded on another page. Transclusion is not limited to (but far more common for) templates. "Hide transclusions" on Special:WhatLinksHere/List of probes by operational status does the same as for a template page: It doesn't list pages which transclude List of probes by operational status without linking to it. There are no pages which transclude it so it makes no difference in this case. Article pages are very rarely transcluded. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:55, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

In July, I made a proposal at WT:Content forking; now, six months later, I've improved it and revived it at this thread at the village pump (policy). I'm excited about my proposal, I think it's a good one, and I'd like to draw attention to it.

Question 1: is it appropriate to add {{rfctag|policy}} for that purpose? Or would that be viewed as redundant (and cutting in line), given that my proposal is posted at the village pump?

Question 2: If the tag is appropriate, would you mind adding it for me? (Partly because I'm not sure how to do it; partly because I don't want to get slapped for doing it.) :P

Netscape 7.2 crashes immediately when I access Wiki

I use Netscape 7.2. Up until last month I had no problems with Netscape. Now I find that accessing Wiki with this browser results in an immediate crash of the program.

This is Wikipedia: it is one of thousands of Wikis. Please don't call it Wiki.

So your experience is that your ancient browser has stopped working with Wikipedia, and somehow you magically know that the thing that has broken it is Wikipedia.

I am not a Mediawiki developer, so I don't know what they test it on; but I would lay money that they test on quite a range of current and recent browsers. It is extremely likely that what is broken is not Wikipedia, but your browser. I for one would prefer that they spent their time extending and improving the software rather than finding and working round bugs in long-obsolete browsers. --ColinFine (talk) 01:13, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Regardless, sarcasm is not called for. Older machines can't use Firefox. Regardless of browser being somewhat out of date, Wikipedia is a major international (and primarily text-based) educational tool and should not crash a browser. This bug was confirmed here on June 21 of 2010 as occurring on several versions of older Mozilla browsers and was quickly FIXED at bugzilla:23926.

However, it has recently since reappeared. Note that the page loads just fine in Netscape 7 (and presumably 9, the last version), appears same as in Firefox, then crashes when it attempts to load something from wikimedia after the entire page is up. That is the same problem that occurred before. I have just noticed this and will post a new topic.

Also note that this is only in the new Vector skin (or whatever it's called), not the classic skin. So the problem can be fixed by restoring the fix that was used for bugzilla:23926 and extending it to other recent Wikimedia updates, or else default to old skin for older browsers. You need to put the title between '==' before and after, otherwise it does not get formatted as a title.

If you have a reliable source for this, please add him to the list. In fact, if you think he is notable by Wikipedia's criteria (and I suspect he is) perhaps you would like to write an article for him? (See WP:YFA). --ColinFine (talk) 00:53, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
