agent orange use in new zealand[edit]

I have repeatedly tried to update the information about rumors of Paritutu being highly contaminated with 2378-TCDD from Dow actually being FACT from the NZ MoH Govt website, but for some reason the govts own data is not sufficient? the Hatfield Group of BC Canada did the soil samples at a cost of $500k,,,,, has wikipedia got a conflict of interest? Wikipedia owes us all an explanation as to why you wont let the truth about new zealand using Agent orange for 50 years out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.95.61.199 (talk) 07:27, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition did not include enough detail for anyone to check the information for themselves; at minimum you need to include the full URL of the page that supports your assertion. The page Help:Footnotes and the template {{Cite web}} may help you to format your addition to match the others in the article. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:41, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 6 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck.--Orange Mike | Talk 12:47, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gilbert Young[edit]

Morning everyone! I'm creating a page for the artist Gilbert Young. He's was listed in Who's Who in America this year and is already mentioned on two wikipages (Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial, Lei Yixin). I've begun writing and have gatherer newspapers, mags, etc to ready myself to cite what's been written. Question is: the only way to access and edit what's been written so far is sign in and click on the "user" name "Gilbertyoung". When the page comes up it says "User Gilbertyoung" at the top. Am I writing in the right place to be able to transfer this to an actual page later on??!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gilbertyoung (talkcontribs) 13:52, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved the page to your sandbox, since there can be problems if you try and move your usepage into mainspace. You can carry on working on it there, I'll put a link on your talkpage. Yunshui  13:57, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you are Gilbert Young please read WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. If you are not Gilbert Young please change your username because it is violating the WP:Impersonation rule. Roger (talk) 14:08, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation[edit]

Where do I go to find out how to pronounce words? Thanks Jane — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.28.76.119 (talk) 14:15, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This question really ought to be at the reference desk, but I personally use howjsay.com. Floating Boat A boat that can float! 14:44, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox help[edit]

I need User:Ryan Vesey/Guy K. Cleveland to show that he was a member of both the house and the senate in the infobox. Can anyone think of a way to do that? Ryan Vesey Review me! 14:26, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Does the "Multiple terms" section of Template:Infobox officeholder/example#Assembly Member help?--ukexpat (talk) 14:30, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it does; although, it would be great if someone could figure out how to embed the templates in eachother or something. Ryan Vesey Review me! 14:35, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page creation question[edit]

Hey,

I am trying to create several pages for different producers on our roster (BrissettMusic)

I have never created/edited with Wiki before, i am registered now but very confused... could someone please just spell out what i need to do?

Thank You

V — Preceding unsigned comment added by BrissettMusic (talkcontribs) 14:32, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but the best advice is to stop. You have a clear conflict of interest and unless the individuals are notable per the guidelines at WP:BIO, articles about them do not belong on Wikipedia. Also, your user name is a clear violation of the user name policy.--ukexpat (talk) 14:36, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

How do you find out how many characters are in a Wikipedia article? Thanks, TBrandley 14:53, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Select "View history". Look at the line about the most recent edit. It will include something like "(32,889 bytes)". Maproom (talk) 14:58, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see it. Thanks! TBrandley 15:00, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if you use FF, there is an ext. called Count Word Professional. Install it (no restart needed) and select text and do Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+E and above the clock (status bar) you should see a popup showing how many words as well as characters. It even works in text boxes. Thank God for those who make such neat extensions! There is also one for Chrome called Word and Character Count. Outdated Logo used[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawnee_Community_College

Please removed the logo at the top of the page. The logo that is near the bottom of the page is correct. The updated logo is represented with a curved window. The one with the state of Illinois should be removed. Thank you.

New look: no edit, etc. functions[edit]

I use WP often, and sometimes edit, however for the first time today i came across many pages (such as Caesaropapism) that do not allow editing (not that i wanted to) or show things like My talk, Log out, etc. while others are as before (i use the monobook look). I find this new handicapped template to be much inferior to the "normal" one. Grace and peace thru the Lord Jesus (talk) 15:16, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It works fine for me. Perhaps you should purge your browser's cache. Dismas|(talk) 15:17, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Did so, not change and it just began today, and it does the same in Opera and Sea Monkey, both of which use a different cache.
Here is the problem: I followed a link from Google which was to an article in http://en.m.wikipedia.org, which rendered in the "new look," and from which i went to the sample article linked above, but that was an internal link rather than http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesaropapism. But what is up with that? Thanks Grace and peace thru the Lord Jesus (talk) 15:46, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's because you are accessing via the mobile interface (denoted by the "m" in the URL).--ukexpat (talk) 15:53, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. Google (as i think that is where i began) must think i am using a mobile device rather than a 7 year-old Desktop, or it thinks that interface is more desirable than the normal one, or had other reasons. Grace and peace thru the Lord Jesus (talk) 15:58, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How to get Page Hits info once I create a page within Wikipedia[edit]

If I create a page within Wikipedia and then want to know how many page hits, is there a way within Wikipedia to do that? If not what are other options: a counter, Google Analytics etc? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.12.62.92 (talk) 15:26, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you click the "View history" tab for any page, you'll see a line of "External tools" near the top. One of those is labelled "Page view statistics". There's more detail on this tool at Wikipedia:Pageview statistics. -- John of Reading (talk) 15:40, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry[edit]

Dear Wikipedia, Sorry. I seem to have irritated you. I apologise. I am not very confident with IT and working online. To those who are, it is probably a mystery that others can be so inept. I think I have written a good article, but panicked when it appeared online a couple of times with my name in the title, and when I hadn’t cited it. Again sorry. I am still a little confused, but will try harder! All the best,

It's hard to give you specific advice without knowing your registered account name or the article title. Does anything at Wikipedia:So you made a userspace draft help you? -- John of Reading (talk) 16:12, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sock Puppet[edit]

Why isn't the bot working right?[edit]

I reported User:Breivik knows best; death 2 Arabs! at WP:UAA, but the bot removed it ("Blocked by..."), even though the user's block log is empty. What happened? 2001:18E8:2:1020:14CA:926D:7D1C:85A5 (talk) 20:27, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The user has been globally locked, a more advanced form of blocking. Elockid (Talk) 20:38, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the pointer; I was editing logged out because it wasn't convenient to use my public sock. Looking at the user's contributions now, I see the block log, although the username of the blocked user is hidden; I had no clue that RevDelling the log entry would prevent IPs even from seeing that there was an entry in it. Improving article layout[edit]

Just wanted to ask around if anyone could me improve the layout of the Liverpool Pride article. As you can see, I've put some detailed info up on artists and acts that performed at previous Liverpool Pride festivals, but the layout does not look symmetrical or pleasing to the eye, could anyone help me to improve? Thanks. Richie wright1980 (talk) 23:26, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
