List of largest suburbs by population[edit]

The list says: "Cities in the People's Republic of China are defined in a nonstandard way, therefore they are excluded from this list." But what is the standard? (Note that a prefecture-level city is better understood as a prefecture rather than a city) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.22.21.3 (talk) 01:04, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The focus of that disclaimer is not on a particular standard itself. The problem with cities in mainland China is summarised at prefecture-level city as you mention above, with perhaps the starkest example being Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia, which is pretty much one urban core (Hailar District) surrounded by grassland interrupted only occasionally by the random town or the few, unaffiliated county-level cities it controls. This is unlike much of the world where municipal limits extending far into hinterlands is almost unheard of. GotR Talk 01:16, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, let's treat the Chinese as non-standard but still accept the American "standard" which says that Soldier, Kansas is a city. It has a population of 136. Where I come from that's just silly. While Soldier is obviously not relevant to this article, it's poor wording in the article to imply that another country's "standard" is any better than the Chinese one. I have moved the article to Renato Athias. The article was created only 18 minutes before your post so I guess there is a connection between the creator User:Nepe-ufpe and you. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:35, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gimli Glider[edit]

In your article on the "Gimli Glider" Air Canada incident caused by Metric confusion you state that senior managment was held responsible also. I don't dispute that but, in the book writen about this whole incident, the author states that the Canadian Government was also held responsible for "pushing or forcing" Air Canada to use metric guages when the aviation industry all over the world was using "pounds" to measure fuel. I think this is a significant bit of history to include in the wrightup. I am brand new and green in this wikipedia contributing and editing and am not confident enough to actually edit. I will take some time to read up on the procedures. Thanks for providing the opportunity to an ordinary guy like me to communicate with you. Wayne - Waynegie — Preceding unsigned comment added by Waynegie (talkcontribs) 05:24, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The easiest way for you to get the material added if you are not confident about editing the article directly would be to post about it on Talk:Gimli Glider and please give full details of the book where you found the information; Title, Author(s), Publisher, Date, Page number, and the ISBN number. Roger (talk) 08:37, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion should really go on Talk:Gimli Glider. But it was not that the Canadian government pushed for "metric" aircraft, rather all 767s (and 757s) were built that way by Boeing. The 757 and 767 (built around the same time) were the first major western built airliners to use metric weights/masses. The conversion error occurred when the maintenance crew used a dipstick to check the amount of fuel in the tanks (the normal fuel gauges being inoperative). The maintenance crew read the number on the dipstick(s) as being in pounds, when it was in fact in kilograms. They then used the wrong conversion factor (1.77lbs/liter instead of .8kg/liter) to convert the needed fuel to *liters* to determine how much to pump into the aircraft. For all other aircraft in the AC fleet the procedure would have been to convert *pounds* (the 1.77 factor) to liters, as the ground end of things had been metric for some time.

RTPking is keep on doing vandalism on my edits[edit]

The user RTPking is keep on doing vandalism on my edits. My valuable time is getting waste because of him.see the edit history of mine .He is not ready to talk in talk page.i hope that kind of activity is enemy for wikipedia work.that is my hope.Because i spent my valuable time. Please do some action against this issue.User like him creating different accounts and again start their work like deleting, making vandalism .i hope i will get justice from wikipedia if i am honest .i hope i m reliable for wiki.Thank you!Eshwar.om (talk) 13:33, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Have you attempted to discuss these issues with User:RTPking on the relevant talk pages?--ukexpat (talk) 14:51, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Disagreeing with you is not vandalism. The two of you are having what we call a content dispute, and Wikipedia has a procedure called dispute resolution which both of you should follow: it begins with talking to each other on a talk page, as ukexpat says. (For what it's worth, in my opinion your addition was reasonable and RTPking's argument for removing it: "Regional names are not to be here only the official name required" is wrong, particularly since you supported the local name with a source. But once RTPking removed it, the right course of action for you was to discuss it on the talk page and try to get consensus, not just to keep making the change again: that is called edit warring, and it is not acceptable behaviour from either of you.) --ColinFine (talk) 23:15, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An attempt to place Bhagvad-Gita in its proper perspective[edit]

In spite of my repeated attempts, over the years including today's, to gain space for my Bhagvad-Gita in verse sans 110 interpolations so as to place the classic in its proper perspective, the highhandedness of those handling the page is proving to be a hurdle. it's fine that Wikipedia showcases all the old versions that take all the inherent contradictions in the 700-verse text as the Gospel truth but I wonder why it shies away from presenting an alternate view that 110 verses of it were but interpolations. You may realize that by blocking my work on Wikipedia, which is reckoned by the World Public Library, Great Books and classics,Vedanta Spiritual Libra y, Gatewayforindia.com, Omjai.com, Boloji.com among others, you are only stunting your Wikivision. I hope that the following introduction to my work may wake you up a little. "The spiritual ethos and the philosophical outlook that the Bhagvad - Gita postulates paves the way for the liberation of man, who, as Rousseau said, ‘being born free, is everywhere in chains’. But equally it is a mirror of human psychology, which enables man to discern his debilities for appropriate redressal. All the same, the boon of an oral tradition that kept it alive for over two millennia became its bane with the proliferation of interpolations therein. Besides muddying its pristine philosophy, these insertions affect the sequential conformity and structural economy of the grand discourse. What is worse, to the chagrin of the majority of the Hindus, some of these legitimize the inimical caste system while upholding the priestly perks and prejudices. This rendition seeks to restore to the Gita, its original character by ridding it of hundred and ten interpolations, which tend to keep the skeptics away from it. And ironically these muddle the understanding of the adherents as well. In the theatre of man as nothing surpasses the drama of war, the stage for unveiling the Gita’s unrivalled philosophy was set on the battleground of Kurukshetra at the threshold of the battle of Mahabharata." I think he is disappointed that his suggestion to add something to Bhagavad Gita has been ignored. Take a look at his essay added to this noticeboard and quickly removed by another, and then discussed at User talk:Abecedare/Archive 18#Apropos the on-going talk in respect of interpolations in Bhagvad-Gita and what I think is the answer at User talk:BS Murthy#Bhagavad Gita essay. How to create edit counter opt-in page so I can see my edit counts per article??[edit]

If possible, I'd like to see how many contributions I'm making to each article I've been working on. When I go into Edit Count on my User Contribution page, I see the following.

Top edited pages User has not yet opted in. If you want to see graphs, please create User:Early morning person/EditCounterOptIn.js with any content. Alternatively, you can create meta:User:Early morning person/EditCounterGlobalOptIn.js to opt-in across all Wikimedia wikis.

I did click on each of the links given, and when I got to the pages that the links led to, I also clicked on "Create." However, I do not get any graphs indicating how many edits I've been making to the individual articles. Do I need to enter something when I go to the pages these links take me to? Many thanks! EMP (talk 19:42, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

User:Early morning person/EditCounterOptIn.js is now a blue link (you add any old text to make it work). So go back to the edit counter and you should see graphs. Note though that this has been disabled for users with more than 45000 edits.-ukexpat (talk) 19:57, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great, I see them, and the edit counts per article. Very much appreciated! EMP (talk 20:00, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Admins,

(or anyone else that can help)

The current brooks city base page contains alot of info concerning the old base, however, there is little info on the new developments within the new city base. Brooks was turned over to the city over ten years ago. I wish to correct this info on behalf of my client. Help? Suggestions? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caseywhittington (talkcontribs) 22:22, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Since "Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that anybody can edit" you can be bold and do it yourself - Just be sure to cite your sources - I've noticed there are plenty of good sources, so you shouldn't need to rely on a primary source (which is frowned upon here). If you're uncomfortable in editing, perhaps one of these fine editors on the Help desk could help -- This one has a plane to catch in a few hours - and isn't ready yet.

The article is about the U.S. Air Force base. It should remain so, and not be used to advertise the OP's client's property development. Maproom (talk) 14:52, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article is about the Air force, containing little info about the current development. Confusing because of the name. The current development is Brooks City Base, and has no affiliation with the Air Force. Therefor the current page should reflect the changes. not the history of a base (should be its own page alltogether) Caseywhittington (talk) 16:57, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Refer to Myrtle Beach Air Force Base to see how this has been done for another base that was redeveloped. It's possible your development is notable enough for its own article. This was the case with The Market Common Myrtle Beach, which is the largest development on the former base.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 21:55, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
