No, sorry, I'm aware of Wikiprojects and I don't mean them. I mean a Special Page or ordinary article in the WP namespace that lists things that editors can do in their spare time to improve WP. Where is the best place to discuss something affecting multiple pages?[edit]

There are discussions occurring at Talk:Diosdado Cabello on a topic that will also be reflected at Hugo Chávez, List of Presidents of Venezuela, and Nicolás Maduro. That's workable, but still not great (and it's always difficult to enforce a decision made at the talkpage of another article, even if a link is provided). Can't change the article title.[edit]

Can't change the article title on my native town with the wrong spelling. The correct spelling is "Seikphyu". In Myanmar language, "Seik" refers to "Seik Kan" meaning "port" and "phyu" means "white (white colour)". So the overall meaning of "Seikphyu" is "white port". There is a great difference between "phyu" and "pyu". Now the article title is spelled as "Seikpyu" which is wrong, meaningless and stupid. I'm very upset to see the name of my native town in wrong spelling. The similar thing is happening to the name of the township which is wrong and spelled as "Seikpyu Township".

I can not see the move button. Can someone help me change the title to the correct one?

Here is my reference of the official names of the administrative regions and towns of Myanmar. The link is a pdf formatted map produced by the Myanmar Information Management Unit (MIMU). Talk page template for collecting potential sources/links that aren't yet used in an article[edit]

I'm looking for the talk page template box that is used to list useful/helpful external links and sources that haven't yet been worked into the article, like for future editors to consider adding to an article in future edits. It looks like a normal talk page template box with the brown-mustard background and whatnot—I'm just blanking on the name and it's near impossible to find via search. Google pulls the stuff you see in the right hand pane of its search results from all over the internet. If you have, or can get hold of, a freely licensed image, it can be uploaded and added to the article, but there is no guarantee that it will appear in Google's results. Also note, if you are connected with the subject of the article, you must read WP:COI and I assume that the "we" you refer to is the "royal we" because Wikipedia accounts cannot be shared.--ukexpat (talk) 04:30, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi VERMEILLE60. I can see that there is an article on the French language Wikipedia for fr:François Vermeille. It was also nominated for deletion in fr:Discussion:François Vermeille/Suppression and retained. I know very little French and even less about Jazz. It might be a good idea to contact English language Wikipedia editors who are fluent in French about this. I suggest Coren to start with. Hope this helps! WikiEditor extension handles it. The documentation at mediawiki says that users can customize it. I have tried it, but couldn't get it to work. You could use the Sign your posts on talk pages: ~~~~ located at edit tools at the bottom of the editbox instead. --Ushau97 talk contribs 11:32, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Most populous state in US[edit]

Hi,

I have a question.

I wanted to know which is the most populous state in US.

While reading on wikipedia I realized that on one link California has been shown as the most populous state while on another link of wikipedia New York has been shown as the most populous state.

Copied/pasted here are those two links.

I would like to know which one is correct and request you to please display one information whichever is correct.

It has been suggested many times but not gained support. See Wikipedia:Perennial proposals#Share pages on Facebook, Twitter etc.
Sharebox is a script that reorders your toolbox. It adds new buttons that make it easier to mail, print or share an article on Facebook or another linksharing service. What are the criteria for "notable people" in an article about a town/city?[edit]

Hi, can anyone give me some info about who is supposed to be in the notable people section of such an article? I was perusing the article about Saint Albans and came across this rather sprawling notable people section, which I have just slightly pruned but it still looks like a huge mess and I'm not really sure if "once lived there" or "now teaches at a school there" are sufficient. I think some more of the entries could be weeded out, but I'll stay my hand and wait for others' advice. CaptainScreebo Parley! 12:41, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If someone is notable, one would expect an article about them to exist; as a result, a good rule of thumb is only to retain bluelinks in such a list. If there isn't an article already, best practice would be to write the article first, but you could include redlinked entries if you think there's enough in the way of sources out there to create a page about them in the future. As far as their relation to the town goes, WP:FAMRES might be worth a look. Yunshui  12:58, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I made random checks of some of the people on the list to see if St Albans is mentioned in the article. Some of the entries do not appear to be supported by the linked articles, Kurt Jackson, John Hartson, John Motson are listed but St Albans is not mentioned in their articles. The list should be cleaned up more to only include those with references to show they lived there. GB fan 13:21, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've tried to deal with this issue elsewhere, and the approach I took was that in the absence of a blue link, I attempted to add at least one reference establishing notability, (one reference isn't even enough to prove notability, but it seemed like a reasonable compromise) and one that established the connection. In cases with blue links, I just checked to see if there was anything in the article establishing the connection, and if not attempted to add a reference containing one. Though I think referencing lists of notable people in an article is probably the exception rather then the rule, even if it should be the rule. Monty845 15:47, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hmm, interesting stuff and thanks to all who replied. WP:FAMRES is definitely what I was looking for, as there are a lot of IMHO vague or weak links to the town, and, as GB fan points out, a random sampling of some of those mentioned contain no mention of Saint Albans in their article. It seems, as I suspected, that there have been some over-enthusiastic additions, already pruned for living nearby and so on, I will go back to this later.
  • To Yunshui, about the blue links, well there were several "indie" type bands listed (toured literally for four years before breaking up that sort of thing), so I checked the articles, either unreffed or IMHO fairly rubbish refs, I have watchlisted them all to see if they need AfDing, which I'm fairly sure they do. So what I'm saying is just because something's bluelinked, it doesn't mean the relevant article is valid (i.e. notable as per Wikipedia's interpretation). Adding customized image for kits/uniform in the infobax[edit]

How do you create a link to the image you uploaded for the infobox of an article? Like in the real madrid c.f. Proper Use of Redirects[edit]

Hello, I need clarification on how to proceed on the following:

When you search "Parks College" in Wikipedia, you are redirected to "Everest College" (which used to be called Parks College). I think when the user searches "Parks College" they should in fact be redirected to "Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology."

My question is: Is it permissible to change this redirect ("Parks College") to be redirected to "Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology?"

comment about Prince[edit]

It is very good that I have been able to read a article about Prince. I have been waiting to read what happened to him since the 1980's when he became less active in his singing career. I wanted to say that it is a shame that so many companies used his name so much in the 1980's and the 1990's as advertising. I am proposing deletion of Vonbluvens Show article[edit]

I propose this page be looked at and considered for deletion under "Proposed deletion of biographies of living persons".

promotional articles[edit]

If I have come across an article in which I have edited but keeps being changed back and seems to me to be a promotional article in which the majority is poorly sourced, how do I report this to get an editor to look at it? the page is question is Matt Fiddes.

The first step is to attempt to reach consensus with the other involved user(s) on a relevant talk page. We are all "editors" (and there is no "editorial board"). And per WP:BLP, if there is contentious material about living persons, it should be reverted/removed immediately and without waiting for discussion.--ukexpat (talk) 20:41, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem[edit]

Don't really have a problem other than submitting a request for a topic was incredibly complicated. I wanted a page for Judith Tintanelli. She is the incredibly influential author on one of probably two top textbooks in the Emergency Medicine specialty. There is currently an intense effort by the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association to create a legacy video on the history of Emergency Medicine and discuss this with the most influential people in the field (before it's too late). Tintanelli and Harwood and Nuss are the top textbooks and truly deserve a page.

It seems from what you say that an article about the textbook is more likely to comply with the notability requirements, than an article about one of the authors. How much has been published about Tintanelli the person compared to how much has been written about her book? If all we can find about her is that she wrote this "really important" book then it's unlikely that we can have an article about her. Roger (talk) 21:14, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First, your club needs to be notable, see WP:N for what that means. Second, you should not create the article, due to a conflict of interest, as explained at WP:COI. If you meet the notability requirements, you can request an article at WP:RA RudolfRed (talk) 21:58, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is absolutely fine for you to place links on your external site to Wikipedia articles. Note though that if you use our content (for example, excerpting material from one of our articles) then under the copyright license our material bears, you must provide attribution to Wikipedia. Please see Wikipedia:Reusing Wikipedia content. Because I wasn't 100% sure from your question if you didn't mean this, please note that the reverse—placing links on Wikipedia to your stamp database—is probably not okay.
