My edits have been falsely tagged as vandalism

Hi. I recently made some changes to the Ozzy Lusth article. But no more than 2 minutes later, my edits were undone by someone who doesn't seem to even have any knowledge of the person. When I checked the edit history, my edits were tagged as vandalism. But in reality I removed vandalism from the article (along with adding a few links and fixing some typos). Somebody had written that the man had died in 2011 (which I know for a fact is not true), but when I remove this, suddenly, I get accused of vandalism by some idiot that does not even know anything about Ozzy Lusth. Now why wasn't the original vandal screwed about this? I'm a very serious editor on Wikipedia and I'm familiar with the policies here and I'm not a troublemaker. Can anybody remove that tag please? I guess you are referring to this edit, in which you linked the article to hardcore pornography. That does have the appearance of schoolboy vandalism. Maproom (talk) 07:05, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

The tag "(Tag: possible BLP issue or vandalism)" was applied to your edit automatically by a filter, not by a human editor. Such filters, and the tags, are in general a great help to patrolling editors in spotting dubious edits, but of course they are not infallible. The word possible is significant, as the authors of the filter realized that they could not unambiguously identify vandalism. You can reduce the likelihood of your edits being suspected as vandalism, or of being reverted, if you ensure that your edit has a relevant edit summary to explain the reason for it, and where possible that you include references to support the content you are adding. Hello! Updating Garrick's page with ALL of his work throughout the year sounds rather comprehensive, and is probably not reasonable considering Wikipedia would only be interested in the works that gained independent and noteworthy attention. Maybe you have some independent articles from reliable sources that you could provide that would help detail and report objectively on some of his works? If so, please post them on the article's talk page along with your specific edit request. Watchlist indication for reverted edits

Is there some sort of gadget/script/extension that marks reverted edits on a watchlist?

The current situation is: I open my watchlist, scroll all the way down, check a diff, discover it's vandalism, but some editor has already reverted it so me checking that diff was pointless and a waste of time.

What I'm looking for is something that would change this to: I open my watchlist, scroll all the way down, but I can ignore the struck out or otherwise marked diffs, and focus on checking those that haven't already been reverted. — Reatlas (talk) 10:06, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Do you have Navigation popups turned on? With that, you could hover your mouse over any "hist" link to see the up-to-date history.

(ec) I'm confused by your question. Your watchlist should only show the newest edit on a specific page. So if you check a diff that is vandalism, the only way it would show that it was reverted, is if an editor reverted it in those few seconds. Now, if you're viewing a "Changes related to" page, example, it would show all recent changes. I'd say start at the top? Maybe another user can refer to a specific gadget that can help. What's happened to this reference?

That's exactly it. The software is going to try to split the references into two columns. With just one reference, it splits it. Dismas|^(talk) 13:05, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

I've noticed some editors create a new article with a two column, sometimes three column template, presumably on the assumption that there will eventually be a number of refs. I think that is poor practice. I don't like to switch to multiple columns until there are double digit refs, or close. However, I hadn't realized that it could mess up a single reference (although it looks fine to me). If it is a problem, yet another reason to avoid using it until there are enough refs to justify it.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 14:40, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

I generally use a copy and paste of a good comparable article to create a template to work from. As you can see from my article in progress above, it's copied from the dreadfully crap movie Battleship. Eventually i hope for it to have more than one reference.

spam blacklist

In my meanderings of browsing, I ran across this page: Category:Pages containing blacklisted links. I noticed that there are several NASCAR-related articles listed, and further investigation reveals they are on the list because they include a link from statsheet.com. Now, please understand that I am not a techie at all, so be patient. I went to the spam blacklist, and saw that bstatsheet.com is listed. I am presuming the "b" prefix has some significance? More importantly, where would I go to look to see why this site has been blacklisted? I'd like to do a little investigation as to whether these particular references should be added to the whitelist, or if I should go through and remove these references. Template for future/planned events

Is there is a template for marking future/planned events like Шаблон:Запланированное событие (Russian) Template text: "This article contains the information about the planned event that will happen today". Teyandee (talk) 16:56, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

temporary/new/retype password

Early this hour, en.wikipedia greeted me with a notice that passwords may have been compromised and I need a "new" one for login; no mention of a "temporary" one. But it presented three composition windows beginning with one labeled temporary and filled with several black dots --as if some temporary password had been assigned but masked from me (how does that help?). The other two were empty:

Temporary password: xxxxxxxx
New password: 	
Retype new password:

Please revise to instruct for which purposes the temporary field should be passed over (xxxxxxxx), emptied ( ), or filled (something else).

It may help to revise the error message(s). I tried five combinations, all with a matching entry in the retype field. The identical error message doesn't specify a mismatch, or say that the temporary was deleted when it must be passed over, etc. It does say that I may have changed my password.

If it is hoped that users will choose an option wisely, please explain what is a "temporary" password? Will old passwords be restored if it is discerned that they have not actually been compromised? Does entry in the "new" field consign the old password to oblivion?

My login was the same, though I didn't take notice of whether it said "Temporary" or not, and what was supplied was my then current password. Since I have my browser set to remember my password, it auto-filled it for me. I would assume that your browser did the same for you. Dismas|^(talk) 18:35, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

No, a shared computer where no usernames and passwords should be retained, and the message today confirms a problem on wiki's side.

The temporary/new/retype composite composition box was both yesterday and today presented in response to a failed login. The masked password in the temporary pane may be the one that failed (for me the number of dots matched, but the number was 8, the usual default).

Today I ignored the temporary pane and entered something different from the failed password in both the new and retype panes, so that I submitted entries in all three panes with the last two identical (i intended and presumably succeeded).

Why present any "temporary" pane --much less present it first, with some value evidently entered and masked, and without explanation-- if the purpose is to elicit a "new" password rather then anything temporary? --P64 (talk) 18:16, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

You provide a listing of Silver Star recipients. My Father, retired Colonel Robert D. Leinen, received a Silver Star Medal in Vietnam for his actions in the Tet Offensive. Lists such as that one are not, and are not intended to be, exhaustive. They contain only people who meet the criteria of notability (in Wikipedia's special sense - this does not mean "important", but roughly "have been substantially written about"). If there are published articles or books about your father, then there could be a Wikipedia article about him, and he may appear in that list; otherwise, I'm afraid not. --ColinFine (talk) 17:13, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

(edit conflict) The list at Silver Star#Notable recipients is of recipients who are notable under Wikipedia's definition, i.e. those for whom a Wikipedia article has been deemed appropriate. Naturally one might assume that anyone worthy of being awarded the Silver Star would be notable in the normal sense of the word, but with some 100 000 to 150 0000 having been awarded not all meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. For military personnel the notability criteria are summarised at WP:SOLDIER. If your father meets those requirements (and if there are published reliable sources to demonstrate this), then you could suggest that an article be written about him, but it would be wise not to try to write such an article yourself, for reasons described in Wikipedia's guidance on conflict of interest. - David Biddulph (talk) 17:23, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

The reason for this is about the Koman charity not talking about the male population on this planet that gets , Dies, Suffers from,BREAST CANCER.!! I'm a 46 yr. old male whom has issues with being born with more female hormones than male testosterone. Back in the yr. 1967 when I was born, for some reason the Dr.'s didn't put me on a steroid medicine trial. But wanted to wait till I was 21. By then I had went thru a life time of having a female looking chest that's been about a c cup. Finally Dr.'s in my early 30;s put me on testosterone gel after a yr. of viagra that didn't help firm my fatty chest. Anyway, I been writing to komen for 3 yr.'s I have e-mailed, called & went to events to ask about why men aren't being spoken about, when it comes to getting & dYing from breast cancer. No one would return my calls or e-mails or speak to me in person. I was treated like some idiot shock jocks intern that was sent to harass woman. I have lost 2 wives to other diseases, but from the stress & med's I am on. I have gone from a 6'3 ,190 man . To a 6'1 1/2, 296 lbs in a 3 yr. time frame. NeeVdless to say, I have lumps that my dr.'s will not touch or feel or send me to a Dr. that specializes in breast cancer. I'm on social security & they will not allow me to go to a specialist without gov. social workers approval. My chest has gone from just being a bit flabby , to being about a c-d cup & I know of a lot of men who have no idea that men can & do get breast cancer & die from it. Because it gets buried under the rug. So would whom ever is handling posts on this site for Komen & her breast cancer charity. Please do some investigating about why they will not say men are at risk for breast cancer & put the above info I have wrote. Into some form of information so it gets out to the world about 1/2 of the population is able to get this deadly disease. Just like AIDS isn't a gay persons disease, well BREAST CANCER IS NOT A WOMAN'S DISEASE, IT'S A HUMAN RACE DISEASE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME . Equal sign in Redirect template

I am trying to add

as a hatnote on the Augmented assignment article. I was expecting it to come out properly as

"*=" redirects here. For the deprecated SQL syntax, see Join#Alternate_syntaxes_2.

but it is showing up as

"the deprecated SQL syntax" redirects here. For Join#Alternate_syntaxes_2, see the deprecated SQL syntax (disambiguation).

Experimentation shows that it is the presence of the equal sign which fouls things up. Is there a way to work around this, either so that the equal sign is parsed correctly or using an alternate typography to avoid it being recognized (e.g., &equal;, which doesn't work)? Or does the template need to be fixed? Ma^t_chups 17:36, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

An equals sign will always mess up an unnamed parameter. Here, the template thinks there is a parameter name *, but it is of course, not a defined parameter. Toe get around this, use {{=}} whenever you need an equals in a field.

Wierd notification

i received the following odd entry: "Your edit on [No page] has been reverted by ****. [No page] 9 days ago". I removed the username but the no page is actually what it says - and it is not a clickable link. Is this a side-effect of an article deletion? Would it have said something different if I had checked it sooner? Is these intentional behavior and how is it helpful? Rmhermen (talk) 18:47, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

I would assume it's a deletion issue - but I can't say for sure. If I had the delete button I'd test it for you - alas I don't. To test it, make an edit, then revert it with a test account, then delete the page :) ~Charmlet ^-talk- 22:28, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

It was about a page at Yeoju which was later deleted [2] to make way for a move. Before the deletion I assume the notification would have said Yeoju. I don't know whether it's intentional or a bug that it says "No page" after the deletion and move. Changing company logo

The logo for the organization "CPP Investment Board" is out of date - it was replaced nearly a year ago with a slightly different one. I can't figure out how to change the logo. Can you help?

I am confused. The logo in the top left corner at http://www.cppib.com/en/home.html appears to be identical to File:CPP Investment Board.svg which is currently used in the article. As I don't feel confident enough to update the color of the existing logo uploaded to Wikipedia and have been unable to find a version of the new logo of sufficient resolution for the article, I directed this to the editors of Wikipedias Graphics lab page. The volunteer editors there deal with image enhancement requests. The request is at Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Illustration workshop#CPP Investemnt Board logo (the URL is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Graphics_Lab/Illustration_workshop#CPP_Investemnt_Board_logo). Benjamin F. Johnson

On the Wikipedia article about " Benjamin F. Johnson" there are errors.

Under descendants all the names are in-correct. Alma Dayer LeBaron, Sr. is the son of David T. LeBaron and Ester Johnson. Ester Johnson is a sister of B. F. Johnson. While I do not have a complete listing of B. F. Johnson's genealogy, I can tell you that the names listed as his descendants are not in-fact B. F. Johnson's descendants. Do you have a reliable source claiming Alma Dayer LeBaron is the son of David T. LeBaron and Ester Johnson? The sources I can find say he is the grandson and are consistent with the descendants shown in Benjamin F. Johnson#Relations. Ester Johnson is the mother of Benjamin F LeBaron. Benjamin F. Johnson is the father of Sara Jane Johnson. Benjamin F LeBaron married his cousin Sara Jane Johnson and they had the son Alma Dayer LeBaron. So Ester Johnson is not his mother but his his grandmother, and Benjamin F. Johnson is his grandfather. Note that descendant does not merely mean child. I see no tampering by pranksters, and would remind you of the Wikipedia principle 'assume good faith'. If you look at the history of the page you will see that most of the recent edits have edit summaries, and (apart from the edit by Thryduulf which he said was to test a bug in the Visual Editor) they all appear to be in good faith. It appears that you have a disagreement with User:Divergence5 about what should be in the article. This is normal: see WP:BRD. Divergence5 boldly made some changes that they thought were improving the article; you disagree, and have reverted. Divergence5 should either accept your reversion, or should open a discussion on the article's talk page. --ColinFine (talk) 00:14, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
