July 17[edit]

When will my Article appear on Wikipedia[edit]

Hi there

I wrote an article in late May 2014 about author, Jacqueline Harvey and it has not appeared yet. I can't understand why? Did I do something wrong....hope not, it was loads of work!

Thanks lots

Linda — Preceding unsigned comment added by LindaCameron (talkcontribs) 00:05, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The submission of Draft:Jacqueline Harvey was declined on 24 May 2014. You need to improve it and resubmit it. See the comments on that page fro what you need to do. SpinningSpark 00:14, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Page statistics[edit]

Hi, In article traffic statistics 108 hits on my user page the third of may. In my history there is no contribution that month. Someone have an explanation? thx. --YB 00:07, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

From what I understand, the traffic statistics indicate views, not edits. Dustin (talk) 00:17, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the average is 4 views per day, what happend that day? --YB 00:31, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot really say. Maybe an editor accidentally linked your user page or something. Dustin (talk) 00:34, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's not just you! SpinningSpark 00:37, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Strange indeed. --YB 00:43, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's the CIA. They're after User:Chillum (@Chillum:) as well, but later in the same month. Actually, I think the most likely explanation is that it is a bot doing something. SpinningSpark 01:08, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Spinningspark: That's not the user Chillum's user page views, but the actual page "Chillum"'s views from what I can tell. Chillum vs User:Chillum Dustin (talk) 01:27, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously, the CIA had a glitch on that day. Interestingly, the actual user page shows a spike early in May, the same as the others—which is what I thought I had seen, but obviously I mistyped it when it came to putting it in the post. SpinningSpark 09:41, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This is an interesting game: the phenomenon seems to be quite widespread. The following users all have the same spike: DGG, Materialscientist (although his is not quite so noticable as his page gets high traffic anyway), Scottywong, David Eppstein, Epeefleche, MelanieN, Kudpung, Niteshift36, Milowent, and Magioladitis. Those are all users I have recently interacted with. I am not seeing the same thing for random editors picked from recent changes. I surmise that it is only happening to established editors with a substantial number of contributions—or maybe I am a sleeper terrorist and the CIA is interested in anybody connected with me. SpinningSpark 10:02, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I had a spike but haven't directed interacted with you, although I do read your prolific contributions to this page, so maybe that explains the CIA interest. --S Philbrick(Talk) 14:49, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Celebes today[edit]

Dear sir, Thank you for giving me a news concerning my member's name in Wikipedia, I realy wants to be a good members of wikipedia, but didn't really know how to use it or to operate the system, please let me know how to be a good member of wikipedia by using it's programme professionaly, Sincerelly, John — Preceding unsigned comment added by Celebes-toraja (talkcontribs) 09:51, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect that English is not your native language. There are versions of Wikipedia in many languages. You might find it easier to contribute to another version of Wikipedia, maybe the Bahasa Indonesia version. Maproom (talk) 11:42, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do other people have access to my article?[edit]

I tried submitting a new page for my friend's band Darkness Divided and it got rejected twice (The second time was in March). Well I curiously looked to see if they have a wikipedia and they do. It almost looks as if they just edited my article for creations.

So my 2 questions are: 1. Do other people have access to my article for creations? 2. Did someone edit my article for creations before it got accepted or did they submit their own new article for creations for Darkness Divided? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hannahro95 (talkcontribs) 10:55, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is the "The Encyclopedia that anyone can edit" so yes other people have access to our article . Draft:Darkness Divided was not declined due to sources, the subjects notability is in question, please see Wikipedia:Notability (music) for further information. Mlpearc (open channel) 11:07, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think what Hannahro95 is talking about is that when they created the draft article, Draft:Darkness Divided, it was rejected. Then someone else created the article, Darkness Divided (band), and Hannahro95 thinks they copied the draft article and put it in the mainspace with some additional editing. GB fan 11:13, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The content of the current draft Darkness Divided (band) is entirely the work of Hannahro95. All other editors have done is to add templates, add "declined" notices, and repair broken tags. To answer Hannahro95's questions (again): 1. Yes, everyone has access to it; 2. It is not your article, nor their article. But as it happens, no other editor has added content to it. Maproom (talk) 11:54, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Maproom: you linked to the WP article, not the draft. The current page was created by MetalcoreSuarez. --220 of Borg 13:40, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone can edit any article, but copying without attribution is not permitted under the terms of the CC licence governing contributions to Wikipedia. If that is really what has happened, the correct procedure would be to delete the copy and then move the draft into its place to preserve attribution. However, copying is not what has happened. The two pages are substantially different and show every sign of being independent creations. I suggest that the draft at AFC is abandoned and any further editing done to the live article. The draft will be deleted in six months if nothing is done to it, or the author (Hannahro95) can request deletion now to save waiting. SpinningSpark 12:03, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(Maproom) No, the current article Darkness Divided (band) is NOT my work. They have a lot of mistakes but my draft was pretty accurate. Since mine was rejected twice and there's a current article, I will just delete my draft. I did correct the mistakes on the current article though. (GB fan) is on the right track. I think someone might have took my draft, edited it, then submitted it and it got accepted. Either that or they just created Darkness Divided (band) entirely from scratch. --Hannahro95 (talk) 05:38, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I realise now that there is an article and a draft about the same band. I apologise, particularly to Hannahro95, for my mistake. Maproom (talk) 08:49, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

search within wiki[edit]

When I search from Google, I can find this page "Danagog (Daniel Agunbiade)", But when I search from within Wikipedia, I cant find it. So it was initially Wikipedia: Danagog (Daniel Agunbiade) and has been transferred to Article, but this didnt solve the problem. I have also tried to fix it by submitting the article afresh but thats pending review.

What do we do? Will the approval from the new one fix the issue?

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by DigiRep (talkcontribs) 11:45, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The page Danagog (Daniel Agunbiade) can still be found. It was inexplicably moved to Wikipedia:Danagog on 6 May and only moved back today. SpinningSpark 12:15, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your user name alerts me to ask whether you represent the subjects of the articles you are creating. If you do, please read WP:COI. --ukexpat (talk) 14:29, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the page has now been speedy deleted as unambiguous advertising (after I moved it to a new title of Danagog). SpinningSpark 17:50, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi! I uploaded a logo of the New Party (Serbia) under fair use: File:Nova stranka logo.png. Then, I tried to add it to the article infobox. I added

|logo = [[File:Nova stranka logo.png|180px|New Party logo]]

to the infobox (the same way as in the Five Star Movement article, which I used for model), but the logo won't show. What is the problem? Vanjagenije (talk) 11:57, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done The template doesn't support a caption within the file link. Mlpearc (open channel) 12:28, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Mlpearc, you added logo of the New Party (Serbia) to the article on the Five Star Movement. That is certainly not what I intended to do. Vanjagenije (talk) 12:36, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
:P, my mis-click. Maybe more coffee :). Mlpearc (open channel) 12:39, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The problem seemed to be that there is a conflict between the "logo" and "party_logo" parameters. I have removed the unused one and it now displays ok. SpinningSpark 12:46, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thank you :) Mlpearc (open channel) 12:49, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It works now. Thank you very much ! Vanjagenije (talk) 14:33, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How to completely remove the wikipedia page created due to ignorance.[edit]

Dear Help desk

I am writing after battling with the issue of removing the Wikipedia page completely from search results. The reason being i am working voluntarily for a company to gain new skills in my field. I thought it would be a wise idea to write about the company i was working for. Somehow it was selected for speedy deletion with appropriate reasons and policies of Wikipedia.I need Wikipedia's help to understand how to completely take this page off the search engine results. As i dont want to leave a bad impact and put my tenure in the organisation completely under threat. I hope you will understand my predicament. please guide me. Thanking you in anticipation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dsjindal aidem (talkcontribs) 13:45, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dsjindal aidem. It will eventually disappear but it sometimes takes up to 3 days for a deleted article to completely disappear from a Google search. Wikipedia has no control over this. It's up to Google how often they crawl a page and how long they retain a cached version. Voceditenore (talk) 14:30, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The deleted page will stop showing up in search results when the search engines reindex Wikipedia. We have no control over that process.--ukexpat (talk) 14:30, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My page redirects to my user page[edit]

Hi all, I have created a new page recently, that I moved from my sandbox. When I search for it, I find it with its proper name. However when I click on it, I am redirected to my blank user page. I have removed all the redirects but it keeps happening. Any idea why and how I can fix this? Thank you. Lucieaudibert (talk) 13:55, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article is at Public plans for energy efficient refurbishment, where I moved it from Public Plans for Energy Efficient Refurbishment to conform with our naming conventions. Please don't edit the redirect page (your recent edit was reverted by a bot). Your sandbox at User:Lucieaudibert/sandbox and your user page are currently blank.--ukexpat (talk) 14:35, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You can't. This is Wikipedia, the online encyclopaedia. We aren't a bank... AndyTheGrump (talk) 14:08, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How To REQUEST Statistics Not Shown[edit]

Hi, Newbie here. There is some statistical data which is missing within the article. How would one request that this data be included? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hawkswatch (talkcontribs) 21:17, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We need more details, The page, what data needs to be added. You can also research and add it yourself. CTF83! 23:15, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification of Community topic-ban status[edit]

Where does one go for clarification on weither a community topic-ban has expired or not? GoodDay (talk) 21:52, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Editing_restrictions, there is a list there. RudolfRed (talk) 22:19, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't in your own interest to ask questions like this. You were site-banned. Your site-ban was lifted, and replaced by restrictions, on 21 May 2014. The restrictions continue until 21 May 2015. I suggest that you strike out the question entirely, so that you aren't seen as violating the terms of the probation by asking this question. Please don't ask questions that are likely to get you site-banned again. Please stop pushing the limits. The ArbCom has been patient, and the community has been patient. Please don't force the end date to be reset to July 2015, or to be banned again. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:48, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's quite alright. I was already re-assured that the topic-ban was expired. I merely posted a question here, to make doubly sure, that WP:RESTRICT was the correct venue. GoodDay (talk) 19:53, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
