June 13[edit]

Request Edit[edit]

Hello guys,

In searching the word Lucifer one of your first statements says that according to the strong concordance bible of the KJV he is referred to as "The morning star" This according to the KJV is incorrect and he is no where in the KJV ever mentioned as the "Morning Star" but rather "Son of the Morning" Everywhere else in the bible that talks about "the morning star" Is a reference to Jesus such as 2 Peter 1:19 and also Revelation 2:28 Anyway i hope you can correct this statement,

Thank you,

David — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.173.98.38 (talk) 01:08, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you are referring to the article Lucifer, then you can post your comments to the article talk page, Talk: Lucifer. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:42, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi hide offensive material, Thanks. --186.55.193.177 (talk) 03:04, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't clear what you are asking. However, if you are saying that the material on the page Wanda Nara is offensive and should be hidden, then read Wikipedia is not censored. I see that information that violates WP:BLP has already been properly removed. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:58, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Having trouble posting photo[edit]

I don't understand why the change I made here ... https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mree&action=edit&editintro=Template:BLP_editintro

I've fixed it. The infobox had a blank "image" parameter near the bottom, so your addition at the top of the infobox was ignored. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:18, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not exactly sure how this should be handled. User:GrafixMix ignored the advice they were given in this thread here at the Help Desk and has gone ahead and created an article about their father. The article is not ready for prime time and should probably be userfied. Should an admin do that? Thanks, Dismas|(talk) 07:53, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the article needs a lot of work, but it was already in mainspace before your advice, and likely the editor didn't know what to do about that. I have fixed up quite a few things, but there are still a lot of external links and some excessive detail that need removal. The article could definitely use some attention from someone who knows about jazz but can look it over from a neutral point of view. Any autoconfirmed user can move a page, but it's preferable to either get the creator's agreement or at least a consensus on the talk page before doing that. —Anne Delong (talk) 12:42, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Need an experieced user to help me move title?[edit]

Hi, how are you doing?

I am trying to move Funimation and change it from Funimation to FUNimation!

I figured I would temporarily move it to FUNimation2 then quickly move it to FUNimation as simply moving it to FUNimation wouldn't work. There was a message about the page already existing, is this because it doesn't recognise the difference in uppercase/lowercase?

One more thing, is this the correct method? I doubt it so what is the right way to make these changes in future?

Thanks in advance for your help, take care :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ihatemeatman (talkcontribs) 10:23, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The reason you can't move it is because there is already a redirect at that name pointing back to the article. The name you suggest goes against Manual of Style/Trademarks guideline: "Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules, even if the trademark owner considers nonstandard formatting 'official'". Such aberrant capitalisations are a marketing ploy to draw attention to the name. That is not the function of Wikipedia. By the way, if you are connected with the organisation, then you have a conflict of interest and should not be editing the article directly yourself. Instead, make suggestions on the talk page that other editors might choose (or not) to implement. SpinningSpark 11:11, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"Aberrant capitalisations" - I like that, and I will use it shamelessly...--ukexpat (talk) 15:27, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My Ireland My England - Two Irelands One Capital by Paddy McGarve. Do you[edit]

I am the author of this peace book on Ireland, an Ebook on Amazon Kindle, and in Wikipedia browser titles linked to my name, I was amazed (and delighted) on Wednesday June 11th inst to see it listed for sale with illustrated cover, price $3,99, allowing Wikipedia a dollar on the screen-read price. There was a pay tab enabling purchase, and available to all devices. On Thursday, checking it again, it had vanished, hardly surprising as I did not think you had any kind of shop. Is it possible you can tell, please, who put it there. Paddy McGarvey, Cambridge UK. -

Wikipedia does have a shop, but it does not sell books. Where did you see your book listed for sale? If it was in a Wikipedia article, which article? Maproom (talk) 12:13, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Upload image on Wikipedia - not being a confirmed user.[edit]

Hi, I recently created an article on "Neelam Dhawan" on wikipedia. I would like to upload an image for the same. I have one image of Neelam Dhawan from the site - http://voylla.wordpress.com/2014/05/07/some-successful-corporate-moms/. The image does not seem to be copyrighted however being new to wiki I would like to know the process of uploading images. I would also like to add that I am not a confirmed user yet. Thanks, Sejal D — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sejal D (talkcontribs) 10:41, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just because an image doesn't say it is copyrighted doesn't mean it isn't. On the contrary, it almost certainly is someone's copyright. You must ask the permission of the copyright owner and send your evidence of permission to the Volunteer Response Team. Once you have done that you may upload the image to Commons: where there is no requirement to be confirmed first. SpinningSpark 10:55, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

sally bixby defty[edit]

That is me, but somehow a Sally Bixby who was in charge of the Tournament of Roses at some point has invaded by Wikipedia entry. Her photo shows up (she is the woman in the orange-red jacket)in my basic entry and many photos of her, her friends and relatives are mixed up with my photos. Can somebody get her out of my Wikipedia life? I am a computer Luddite and cannot understand the directions to excise her myself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.76.204.251 (talk) 12:36, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sally, we don't seem to have a Wikipedia entry on Sally Bixby or Sally Bixby Defty; could you clarify which page you are looking at? I see there is an image at List of Presidents of the Tournament of Roses Association but that's not on a person's entry. Sam Walton (talk) 12:40, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There's an image (File:Sally Bixby.JPG) which is used (correctly, I believe) at List of Presidents of the Tournament of Roses Association and Pasadena Tournament of Roses, but nowhere else on Wikipedia. I can also confirm that not only do we not currently have an article on anyone called Sally Bixby, we have also never had one in the past either (there are no deleted pages at Sally Bixby, Sally Bixby Deftly or Sally Bixby-Deftly). Where do you believe the Wikipedia article about you resides? Yunshui  12:46, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Is it possible you are using a search engine (like Google) -- and not Wikipedia? When I use Google, I see images like the ones yuo describe (including a "...woman in the orange-red jacket"). Wikipedia has no control over what is displayed by search engines like Google. --Larry (talk) 15:14, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong.--ukexpat (talk) 15:30, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Local Community Homeless Issue[edit]

I am taking a philosophy course at TRU and am supposed to access Local Community Homeless Issue page and post and respond to posts. I do not see any title as such.

Is TRU Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops? Robert McClenon (talk) 19:26, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that you ask your professor for guidance. If the local community organization for the homeless meets general notability guidelines, he or she may intend for you to create the article with reliably sourced information. In any case, if this is a class project, you can ask your professor for guidance. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:22, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nor do I. Wikipedia has no article with that title. Can you tell us, more fully, what your actual instructions were? Maproom (talk) 19:21, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe it's an WP:Education program issue? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:53, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
My guess is that the OP has been asked to find pages relating to local community homelessness. In which case they might find our homelessness article helpful and the articles in category:homelessness. SpinningSpark 09:18, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

show text by default[edit]

Is there some way to display by default all the text hidden by the multiple [show] links that are liberally scattered throughout most articles?

I'm an older person, and I am having a great deal of difficulty reading through articles because of the need for constant and repetitive clicking on the [show] links. (If a reader is interested enough to look up a particular topic, why would the reader not also want instant and fluid access to all the text composing the article? What is the meaning of this "hide the text" business?)

Here is a page on a county, where much of the vital information is--bizarrely--hidden from view: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modoc_County,_California

Hard to make comparisons of counties if you can't access the basic data at a glance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.20.64.227 (talk) 19:49, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has two ways of displaying pages, one intended for use with desktop computers and one for use with mobile telephones. The "Desktop" view shows the article properly, with all the sections visible. The "Mobile" view shows the articles with just the first section visible, followed by all the section headers, each with an inverted chevron which opens up its section. To switch between them, scroll to the bottom of the page and select the "Mobile" or "Desktop" link.
My guess is that you are using a full-sized computer but have accidentally switched it to use the "Mobile" view. So scroll all the way to the bottom of any page, and select the rather small "Mobile" link. Maproom (talk) 20:50, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the OP is referring not to sections, but to collapsed wikitables. For the page in question, there are a large number of such tables (many of them statistics broken down by city within Modoc County). If all of these tables were displayed by default, it would result in a much larger amount of text. For some counties (like Modoc) this might be annoying but not so bad; for larger counties (like Los Angeles), it would be a mess. I don't know of any user settings to override this; perhaps someone else does? --Larry (talk) 23:41, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Disabling Javascript should technically do it, but it's not the best method. However, I can't remember other methods, so... - Purplewowies (talk) 23:44, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Registered users are able to add css and javascript to control the way pages are displayed to them. It should be possible (although I can't quite work out how to do it off-hand) to unhide the tables with css. I suggest that you first register an account, and then ask at WP:VPT where somebody will undoubtedly be able to supply you with some code to use. SpinningSpark 19:06, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
