Assistance needed with problems moving stub to main page[edit]

Dear all, I would appreciate help with the following: I am new to this and tried to move the stub, WikiAfrika/Stubs/Montagu Museum to the main page as the article is now finalised. Somehow I got mixed up with redirects and the talk pageand cannot locate the Montagu Museum article on the main page. Thank you in advance, Lorinda Lorinda63 (talk) 00:29, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article is now at Wikipedia:Montagu Museum, which is in the wrong namespace. Administrator intervention is required to move it to the article space, as that page exists. Rojomoke (talk) 01:01, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Lorinda, I advise you to read Wikipedia's policy on conflict of interest before you devote any more time to this. Maproom (talk) 07:58, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2 accounts[edit]

I created a second account when I couldn't log in to my regular account. So now I have 2 accouants and I only need one. How can I merge them together or delete one? WhittierAlaska (talk) 01:01, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You can't do either. See account deletion and merging. Also it is highly recommended that you use only one of your accounts. -- Fauzan✆ talk ✉ email 07:53, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
One thing you can do is put a #REDIRECT [[User:YourBetterAcoount]] on the other user page. That would explain that you don't intend to use the other account. Leave the talk page as is, bots would never grok a redirect, if they want to report some nit related to your other account. By adding the redirect with your better account you have the user page (incl. talk) of your other account in your watch list, or if not, add it manually (click on "watch" or similar). –Be..anyone (talk) 04:18, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Page Titles[edit]

Is it possible to add tags or something to have other specific related keywords/titles call up a Wikipage? Specifically, I would like to have the page, "Phunckateck Communications" be able to be accessed as a link if you search for just "Phunckateck" or use Phunckateck, since they are one in the same. Currently, only Phunckateck Communications will work.

Thank you for any help or answer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.7.8.22 (talk) 03:21, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've created a redirect, so the above link is now blue. However I'm not sure how much longer the page will exist, as most of its references appear to be to non-reliable sources. Rojomoke (talk) 07:14, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ip address sender name and location search[edit]

how do i search and ip address for those results? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.99.176.139 (talk) 04:14, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is not possible to know the name of the sender, however you might be looking for this.-- Fauzan✆ talk ✉ email 07:47, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

facts about vampire myth[edit]

there are creatures in all mythologies of many cultures. However, the vampire, as he became known, originated in coutries of Eastern Euope. Today everyone is familliar with vampires. The earliest recorded vampire myth came from Babylonia, from about 2,000 BC but in Brittan very little was known about them before the eighteenth century
Although there are cultual variations in the various legends, there is always one defining trait of the word vampire: A vampire is a creature that drains the blood of other living things and makes it a vampire to.
Tere are other facts about the vapire myth:
A vampire sleeps during the day in a coffin lined with silk and filled wiyh dirt or soil, then wakes up in the dead of night to feed on it's victims. garlic will defend yoyu aainst the vampire, as will a crucifix , and they cannot go into a church. Nor can they go/get into your house with out you inviting them in wich you would do before you knew they were a vampire (obviously).
It is also said to be true that the creature cannot cross running water.
Lgend also says that in order to destroy a vampire you must:
Put a sharp wooden stick though the chest right through the heart with a single blow.
knock the head off of him/her and make sure that the head cannot reatach with the body by stuffing it with lots and lots of garlic.
take out the heart and burn it to ashes.
then take the ashes and scatter the ashes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Newpersonyo (talkcontribs) 04:58, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And then?-- Fauzan✆ talk ✉ email 07:49, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Newpersonyo. It sounds as if you are wanting to add some material to a Wikipedia article, perhaps to vampire. You are welcome to do so, but please not that if you add anything which is not referenced to a reliable published source, then it may get removed again. --ColinFine (talk) 10:30, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Surname Disambiguation[edit]

What qualifies for a surname disambiguation page on WP? The reason I'm asking is because I have come across pages that have as little as two or three people listed on a page. Why is it necessary to have a page with just two people who share that surname? 24.90.159.185 (talk) 07:55, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The policy is at WP:2DABS, which includes the sentence: "If there are only two topics to which a given title might refer, but neither one is the primary topic, or if both topics are obscure, then it is appropriate to have a disambiguation page at the base name". --ColinFine (talk) 10:32, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure they are actually disambiguation pages and not surname pages? For example, Abasolo (surname) uses {{Surname}} and is not in any disambiguation category so it's not a disambiguation page. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:53, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Here is a recent example I found: Auernheimer; only three people are associated with this surname yet it has DAB page. Again my question is why is it necessary to have a DAB WP surname page if just two or three people share that particular surname? 24.90.159.185 (talk) 14:12, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Let us suppose you've heard that "Mr. Surname" has done something, and want to know more, but don't know what his first name is. As Wikipedia articles are entitled "first name, surname", you can't easily look him up. The page "Surname" might list three people:- John Surname - a C15th painter, Matthew Surname - a WWII pilot and Simon Surname - a current politician. You should be able to work out which article you want and go to that, unless the "Mr Surname" you want to know about was a Victorian poet, in which case we don't appear to have an article on him. - Arjayay (talk) 15:08, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed Auernheimer from {{disamb}} to {{Surname}} and added a few things.[1] Surname pages with multiple people with biographies are usually kept when they are nominated for deletion. See for example Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ade (surname). I don't know whether there is a general guideline about it. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anthroponymy would be a place to discuss it. Maybe it's in the archives. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:10, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody has answered this question yet: Why is it necessary to have a disambiguation page with only two people who share a specific surname? 24.90.159.185 (talk) 08:55, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Answer: It isn't, see WP:TWODABS.--ukexpat (talk) 13:03, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article CFB Kingston has no {{Infobox airport}}, and accordingly data Helipads. Independently I failed to find them. Help if you can. — Андрей Бондарь (talk) 09:21, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Angelina Jolie - children[edit]

As the Wiki article for Angelina Jolie is "semi-protected", I feel I should inform you that I have edited paragraph 4.2. This shows a boxed list of her children, which I have amended to show whether each child is a girl or a boy, since the difference is not always apparent from the names. --P123cat1 (talk) 13:41, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The hundreds of people watching the article will be informed of the edit. If you'd like to leave a detailed reasoning behind an edit, feel free to do so on the article's talk page. Scarce2 (talk) 14:22, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The place for your comments about your edits is the article talk page. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:10, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I have left a note on the article's talk page giving my reasons for making this edit. --P123cat1 (talk) 15:27, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How do you all the url thing?[edit]

How do you all the url thing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Platanorey (talkcontribs) 16:16, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can you clarify the question Platanorey? In [2] an editor used {{cite web}} to make a reference for a url you had mentioned in an edit summary. See also Help:Referencing for beginners. Does that answer your question? PrimeHunter (talk) 17:03, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Video Creation: Guideline Questions[edit]

Hello all, I know that uploading video is relatively new and with that in mind I require some advice on length for a Tour-Type video. Basically, I want to add a Tour-type video, however, it does require narration. I noticed two of the 'Tour Type; video examples used in the [Help] page did use narration although under 'Style guidelines' is states you shouldn't; however, narration is very important in this project. Also, what is the recommended length for a Tour-Type video? The Video Help page makes no mention.... Many thanks. Twobells (talk) 17:02, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No idea how it's handled locally (= this wiki), but for commons simply stay below 50MB and use .webm or .ogv for the uploaded video. With admin help and/or chunked upload  longer videos are possible. –Be..anyone (talk) 12:14, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

removing sensitive userspace information on minors[edit]

I have stumbled across a self-identified minor who has revealed personally-identifying on material on their userspace such as full name, age, and place of living. Is there a policy or procedure for discreetly removing such material and warning the user against posting sensitive personal information, without calling attention to it since most every change on Wikipedia is logged? thanks. --Animalparty-- (talk) 17:28, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Oversight? And then mayber pointing them to WP:Young? - Purplewowies (talk) 17:38, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think that is actually WP:YOUNG - Arjayay (talk) 17:43, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It is, I forgot to capitalize the whole word. - Purplewowies (talk) 17:54, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to both of you. I've contacted Oversight.--Animalparty-- (talk) 17:58, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template for "this page was copied by another source, don't mark it as a copyright violation"[edit]

I can't remember the name of this template and I couldn't find it by searching. It's a talk page template saying "So-and-so source is a direct copy of this article. Do not flag this article for deletion as a copyright violation of that source"-- Brainy J ~~ (talk) 18:54, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Are you looking for {{Backwardscopy}}?--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:30, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's the one. Thanks!-- Brainy J ~~ (talk) 19:58, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Use of name 'Olympics'.[edit]

In 1990, The First Robot Olympics took place in Glasgow, UK. A group of us would like to author a page about it but do not want to put in the work if we are not able to use the world 'Olympics' and the page then has to be taken down. It was a historical event and is recorded in both the Guinness Book of records and Encyclopedia Britannica (as well as a few hundred newspaper, Journal and magazine articles) as "The First Robot Olympics". The question is, can we author a page called "The First Robot Olympics" without getting into trouble with a Swiss Lawyer. Thankyou. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petermowforth (talkcontribs) 20:24, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There should be no problem (in terms of Wikipedia policy) with naming the page "Robot Olympics" if that is the name of the event. However, I'm concerned that you seem to be affiliated with the event and so you have a conflict of interest in writing about it.-- Brainy J ~~ (talk) 20:33, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There may be trademark issues. You may want to look at this from the International Trademark Association. It declares that "The Olympic trademarks protected...include...the words 'Olympic'...." HiLo48 (talk) 21:43, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Trademarks cannot prohibit us from talking about something. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 22:05, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No. I was more concerned about the name of the event. HiLo48 (talk) 22:53, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Correct, the Olympic Committee has become quite notorious for clamping down on events using the word "Olympics". And I think that is why the OP is concerned- the Robot Olympics may have been one of the victims of a "cease and desist" letter. But the trademark of the term Olympics will not affect our being able to write about an event that happened. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 23:01, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If the reliable sources which you must be referencing refer to the event as "Robot Olympics" then the article should certainly use that name. If they don't, then it shouldn't. If some do and others don't, you need to determine what name the preponderance of sources use, and use that; but mention other names used by the sources. --ColinFine (talk) 15:31, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Posting a photo that has been removed[edit]

I posted a photo to a page I created and it was removed for copyright reasons. It is a photo that was provided to me by the photographer so I know there are no issues with copyright and it is being posted for use by other users on the internet. I have subsequently tried to re-post it and it gets rejected. How can I get the photo on the page? MoniqueTaryn (talk) 23:06, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You may know that there are no issues, but we need evidence that there are no issues. Have you filed a permission statement with wp:OTRS to demonstrate that the photographer has released it? --S Philbrick(Talk) 23:40, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
