Main page redesign 2014[edit]

Actually, I want to know that do you guys support to change the main page in 2014, if yes, how do you guys think about this design?--Gabrielchihonglee (talk) 02:56, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was not aware that it had changed. I see that the irritating Did you know... section is still there. Maproom (talk) 08:58, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed with issues regarding cultural diversity & disruptive editing ...[edit]

Howdy folks! I sure do enjoy this here Wackipedia video game! I've been trying my hand at it for the past three or four years now, and even have a few articles to my credit (in a manner of speaking). It sure is different from those pong and pac-man games!

I have heard about these nasty little internet critters. I think that this one might be a troll, but I'm not sure about that. One thing for sure is that it is fast. It can jump out of a monitor and slap someone in the face so fast you can't even see it! So what's a feller to do? I've looked all over this WP alphabet stew for a button that says "whack-a-troll" but I just can't find any. Maybe an editor needs some sort of magic ring to fight off the forces of evil? As to the source of this mayhem, I'm definitely not notorious enough to be targeted by one of those mysterious three-letter acronyms in Washington. Sadly, I'm probably not even notorious enough to be targeted by one of those digital microbial robots being developed in secret software laboratories. Considering the depth of intellect involved, as well as the lightening-quick martial-arts-expert reflexes, the most likely culprit here is some precocious ten-year-old latch-key kid, half way across the country, who has seriously studied video gaming since the age of about two and a half.

So I'm seeking someone who can exchange emails with me to help me plan a strategy. The noxious little gremlin seems to have attached itself to my user contribution file, reducing me to attempting this desperate maneuver as a last-ditch effort before having to change my user name and move to another state. I'm loyal to my friends and have above-average spelling skills! Thanks & best wishes, Fake-User-Name (talk) 03:33, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since we don't know who you are, or the details of your situation, we can do nothing. If you log in to your main account, and describe in detail, with diffs, of the actual problem you are having, perhaps we can help. When you speak in vagueries, we can't do much. --Jayron32 04:02, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This almost feels like an attempt at trolling, itself... and if it's not, it's definitely at least bordering on a personal attack of the other editor. - Purplewowies (talk) 08:45, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
if you really want help, i suggest you be serious instead of telling as useless, absurd-like statements, it also seems like you yourself are trolling.--Yutah Andrei Marzan Ogawa123|UPage|☺★ (talk) 05:31, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting my user page[edit]

Hello! Can anyone delete my user page? Thanks in advance! --Maturion (talk) 07:50, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Add the code {{db-user}} at the top of the page, and an admin will delete the page for you. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:07, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edits To SpiritCool[edit]

Hello. I request help!! :)

As the artist "Spirit", I am attempting to add and enhance to the "live looping" article - as an "Acoustic Live Looping" artist. I have 2 specific requests:

1. I find it quite a challenge to create the link from "SpiritCool" in the Live Loooping page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_looping I realize that I need to create the SpiritCool article to attach the link to - but this leads me to the second part of my request for help:

2. I have attempted to create the SpiritCool wiki "page" or wiki "article", and I am unclear on classification: "page" or "article" that should be created, as I tried to experiment with a picture here: (for which I would like to have deleted, as this should go under the one page or article for "SpiritCool") http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Live_in_London.jpg as I was creating the content, I recognize this has been deleted: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpiritCool

In addition, I thought I understood the "sandbox" but I have either "lost" a recent creation, or just can't find it. So, in closing, I'm a real person. I have legally changed my name to SpiritCool, and would appreciate advice on the above, and would love to contribute to Wiki under the "Live Looping" music context. I have news articles, webpage, and other sources available upon request.

Thank you for your time! :)

Please don't edit content about yourself. It is unlikely that you can do so and abide by our policy of adhering to a neutral point of view. Wikipedia is not here to be a platform to promote you and or your work-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 08:39, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Several comments:
  • You should not try to create an article about yourself. It is impossible for anyone to write impartially about himself.
  • If you want to donate a picture of yourself (or any other subject), and are willing to release your copyright in the picture, it is best to upload it, not here to English Wikipedia, but to Wikimedia Commons, so that it can potentially be used in all language versions of Wikipedia.
  • I might be wrong here – but I think unregistered editors, such as you currently are, do not have sandboxes.

Permission to continue their work[edit]

I got permission to use the information, please more do not rub my page. Kazys Morkūnas, http://www.craftatlas.com/user/kazys Coincides in its infancy as you can see, will be filled up afterwards. I understand your concern, but I can only supplemented by information about this artist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GregSproles (talkcontribs) 14:34, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@GregSproles: Hey Greg. The permission posted at the external website ("Allowed The use of this information only wikipedia page.") shows you made a good faith effort to deal with the copyright issue, but it's still a blatant copyright violation and cannot remain. To use that content here it would have to be released under a free copyright license compatible with our copyright licenses to the world, forever. The copyright issue is not about addressing a carve out of a right to display here, but a release of the material so that our users can in turn take the material and use it under the same free license. If you have or have the ear of the person with the authority to grant release and wish to use that material, what you can do is post to the external site, the following message:
The text of this page is available for modification and reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License and the GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts).
Note the links, which should be made links there using HTML or whatever language the webpage page is written in.

The message to post there could be instead a release into the public domain, as follows:

The text of this page is released under the Creative Commons Zero Waiver 1.0 (CC0).
For more see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 16:58, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
However, getting them to release under the appropriate free use license will not be of much help - they are not a reliably published source and the content and tone is mostly not acceptable anyway. I have created a basic structure of an article on Morkunas from what I could glean from English sources that are in the generally reliable source category that can be supplemented by content that should exist in reliable sources in Lithuanian. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 02:58, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Daniel Canfield[edit]

I find this page offensive because I don't believe that it is true. Someone has obviously edited this page to make a joke of a person who carries this name. The part about the Crazy Dot Com show has no verification and the two names detailed therein are links to pages that have been deleted. I request deletion of this page. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.172.222.203 (talk) 15:08, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Daniel Canfield (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
While I have no clue as to why you'd find it offensive, I don't think that Canfield is necessarily notable enough for an article. That is a valid reason for deletion but not simply being offensive. I also can't confirm that the Canfield who did work for Strawberry Shortcake is the same Canfield that started The Crazy Dot Com Show. Though, he could have been a child actor for the SS DVDs. That would make the time line plausible. Dismas|(talk) 15:46, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The above titled article needs to be removed. The subject of the page, the genus Tularthrum Broun, based on Tularthrum lineatum Broun, was synonymized under the genus Microbrontes Reitter more than 50 years ago, and thus is no longer a valid generic name. Mct5548 (talk) 16:41, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ITIS does not recognize "Tularthrum" [1].  Tularthrum should be a redirect to the proper article (presumably, genus: Microbrontes), with an explanation.  Since "Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that anybody can edit" — anybody should.  71.20.250.51 (talk) 17:21, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well done, Mct5548, thanks!  –Btw, I added a synonyms parameter to the taxobox with:  Tularthrum; Braun, 1893 ~:71.20.250.51 (talk) 18:44, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Done. Mct5548 (talk) 20:12, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WIKAPEDIA'S DESCRIPTION OF LAKE PLACID, FLORIDA[edit]

Hi. I was born in Lake Placid, Florida on one of the surrounding Lakes - Lake June in Winter in 1957. I have lived here or near here for all but 23 years of my life, when I lived away and only visited during Holiday season for this time period. Lake Placid is NOT part of the Sebring Micropolitan area. Lake Placid is a city - town in and of itself and one of the three (3) towns located in Highlands County, where the "12 Hours of Sebring Car Races" are held every year in March. We are 21/2 hours car drive from Orlando and 31/2 hours car drive from Miami, Florida, if you are driving on Highway #27, which goes up and down the center part of the State. Your correction of this point is appreciated. Best Wishes Katherine L. Johnson — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.232.200.58 (talk) 18:59, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Sebring MSA is coincident to Highlands county, and does include Lake Placid. Take a look at https://www.census.gov/econ/census02/maps/fl/04000us12m.pdf Rwessel (talk) 20:28, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

K2[edit]

K2: Early history

K2 was first observed by Captain Montgomerie, from Haramukh, in 1856, by telescope.

The way to K2, and its height and position, were first fixed by Haversham Godwin-Austen (1834-1923) in August 1861. He painted a watercolour of the event. His trigonometrical observations were made from a point about 1200m above Urdukas by Godwin-Austen, aided by his native porters.(Godwin-Austen was the sole European on this expedition.)

The above information comes from public records and Godwin-Austen's private papers, which were released for the first time in 2009. They form the basis for the first biography of Godwin-Austen: <The K2 Man (and His Molluscs), by Catherine Moorehead; published by In Pinn, an imprint of Neil Wilson publishing, in November 2013.
