November 5[edit]

alt acct notification[edit]

Hi, help desk. I thinking about having a second account not linked to this main account Pcfan500 as I want to edit about the political situation in Hong Kong but some people involved know my username and I fear being harasssed. Is it OK for me to do this? I am a bit unsure about the sockpuppetry policy. Pcfan500 (talk) 00:51, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

potentially yes, Wikipedia:Sock_puppetry#Legitimate_uses but now the you have mentioned the name of the article with your main account, well you have kind of defeated your goal. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:59, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

When I edit Wikipedia it puts all sentences as single sentence[edit]

When I edit Wikipedia it puts all sentences as single sentences like all are in one row.But when I put each sentence in new row it displays correctly.Does anyone know how to fix this, will this change in future? Xand2 金日光旦照 (talk) 15:57, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I thought I would look for examples among other posts you have made, but that post above is the only one you have made with this account, so it's the only one I can see, and it looks fine. What I will recommend is signing your post with the string ~~~~. HiLo48 (talk) 09:21, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK here is an example:

When I edit Wikipedia it puts all sentences as single sentences like all are in one row. But when I put each sentence in new row it displays correctly. Does anyone know how to fix this, will this change in future?

Each sentence is in new row.But it will probably put it in as one continuous sentence.

When I edit Wikipedia it puts all sentences as single sentences like all are in one row.

But when I put each sentence in new row it displays correctly.

Does anyone know how to fix this, will this change in future?

And when there is space between rows it displays it correctly. Xand2 金日光旦照 (talk) 15:57, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That is how Wiki markup works. If you leave a blank line, it will start a new paragraph; if you don't it won't. --ColinFine (talk) 11:11, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you are trying to start a new line without a line-space use the <br /> command, which is a line-return arrow on most Wikipedia toolbars. - Arjayay (talk) 11:29, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The current operation is by design. As noted, start a new paragraph by adding a blank line. Please don't use <br /> just for this; someone will just come along and clean it up by replacing it with a newline. --  Gadget850 talk 11:57, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK but I think that is bothersome and unnecessary work to put empty row between, on UESP wiki I have done that in about 100 to 300 lines of text and I think this is unnecessary could some administrator fix it?Also why is there no auto sign, on most forums auto signature is automatic although this can be changed in preferences. Xand2 金日光旦照 (talk) 15:59, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Your contributions show you have made edits only here and on talk pages. I suspect you may be referring to UESPWiki, which is outside our purview. --  Gadget850 talk 16:03, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is correct but on both wiki is same problem.Hiero wiki markup doesn't cover complete Egyptian hieroglyphs perhaps you know how to contact them they could use OpenSource JSesh for additional glyphs.Do you know where to post Wikipedia feature requests? When signature is changed in preferences why isn't all signatures automatically changed on all talk pages edits. Also I was asked to uncheck wiki markup because bots doesn't recognize it as signature so how to make bold text without wiki markup or how to use wiki markup to be recognized by bot? Thanks. Xand2 金日光旦照 (talk) 16:22, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
it does not change previous signatures because the signatures are not placed onto the pages as a distinct element or item, but merely as a shorthand of standard coding as you can see when you edit any talk section and look at the signatures. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 16:58, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The Help desk is here to help you with issues on the English Wikipedia. You need to contact the administrators at UESPWiki for help there. Just as an example, we are running a much newer version of the MediaWiki software than UESPWiki (1.25wmf5 v. 1.19.3). The signature issue was also discussed on your help page. --  Gadget850 talk 17:00, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adding External Links[edit]

Hey, I own a website about Anxiety, Stress & Depression. I was adding links to different wikipedia sites revolving around the topic of my website. I did this with the interest of giving people an additional page, where they can get more information on the topic.

I got a warning message telling me I am adding too many external links. Why is it showing this although I am adding sites that are legit up and running with proper information?

Could you tell me exactly what the issue is. If there is an issue, could you delete the edits I have made? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gauth1234 (talkcontribs) 12:34, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

All the information about adding external links to Wikipedia can be found in the external links guideline, Wikipedia:External links. GB fan 12:43, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
They have all been deleted already. I mention this to spare other editors the trouble of checking them. Maproom (talk) 14:53, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removing cleanup tags.[edit]

I've been editing an article for the Post Rice Lofts. There is a cleanup request for the lack of in-line citations, and I think various editors have addressed this issue. Is anyone free to remove a cleanup tag, or does this need to be reviewed by a senior editor or moderator? Oldsanfelipe (talk) 15:02, 5 November 2014 (UTC)oldsanfelipe[reply]

Hi Oldsanfelipe, everyone is free to remove them. If anyone disagrees they can always reinstate it and you can talk about it. So go right ahead. If you have any more questions feel free to let me know. All the best, Taketa (talk) 15:07, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As Taketa says, any editor can remove cleanup tags, and any editor can re-insert them. The removal and re-insertion of cleanup tags, if done more than once, is edit-warring, and is unfortunately a common form of edit-warring. Go ahead and remove the tag if, as you say, you think that the issue has been addressed, and if the tag is re-inserted, discuss it on the talk page. Also, Wikipedia doesn't have moderators, only editors. (Wikipedia does have administrators, but cleanup tags do not involve administrative tools.) Robert McClenon (talk) 15:48, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the five-year-old tag. It looks like that issue has been addressed. The other issue that User:Oldsanfelipe identified on the talk page, Talk:Post Rice Lofts, can be addressed by other editors. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:53, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to Taketa and Robert McClenon for the clarifications. Oldsanfelipe (talk) 17:09, 5 November 2014 (UTC)oldsanfelipe[reply]

Governor of Texas Question[edit]

DID THE HAVE A GOVERNERS RACE IN TEXAS?198.14.233.101 (talk) 17:01, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. See United States gubernatorial elections, 2014. Please do not post in ALL CAPS. It is considered SHOUTING on the Internet. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:20, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Where to Request Large-Scale Editing Request[edit]

What is the proper place to post a request that a large number of articles need to be updated? (The specific articles have to do with US elections that were held yesterday, but this question is about editing Wikipedia.) Robert McClenon (talk) 17:24, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest choosing an appropriate Wikiproject; in this case Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United States. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:49, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Don't expect changes to happen very quickly even if you do post on a WikiProject. From experience, I've found that lists of House elections in each state are often left without results for years after each election. Altamel (talk) 18:39, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Endurance International Group[edit]

To whom it concerns,

On this page: Endurance International Group it has been completely edited by two users: User:Tutelary and User:TheRedPenOfDoom not sure if they work for EIG or if they have been banned from editing the topic.

You can view what it looked like here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1407501 but it's been changed completely now and it's just a few paragraphs. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Endurance_International_Group&diff=632572454&oldid=632531593 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.151.4.222 (talk) 18:06, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The link that you posted that says what the article used to look like is not a previous version of the article or an article on another web site, but shows your off-wiki canvassing about your preferred version of the article. Also, please do not cast aspersions at other editors by implying that they have a conflict of interest or are topic-banned. If you have concerns about the content of the article, discuss them at Talk: Endurance International Group. If you are not satisfied, use any of the methods of dispute resolution rather than canvassing. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:37, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Wiki Page[edit]

Hi,

I wanna add details to an article published in wiki. Kaakki Sattai

I am not able to add.

I am typing the detail in the edit page and the changes do not reflect even after i save the page.

Please help me

Regards

Sujay — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.36.89.14 (talk) 21:06, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits, and those of a preceding editor, were saved, but I have now reverted them because you were obviously somewhat confused. In particular, you need to remember that it is pointless to supply values for an infobox parameter if that parameter does not exist in the relevant infobox template. --David Biddulph (talk) 21:21, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove the page about me, thanks[edit]

Tamara Gervasoni

I hope you can help me

Many thanks in advance
