archieving a talk page[edit]

How do you archieve your talk page. I would love a bot or someone to do it. --74.130.133.1 (talk) 00:08, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You will find advice at Help:Archiving a talk page. --David Biddulph (talk) 00:25, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ref cite template fixing[edit]

Could someone explain to me what the problem is with the references in ...But Seriously? I don't get it. I don't see a ref with that name. Dismas|(talk) 02:11, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have purged the page (see #Venus Palermo) so the error displays a link to Help:Cite errors/Cite error references duplicate key which mentions: "Ref names may be generated by a template and produce names not in the wikitext." The error is displayed at the problematic reference so you can work out where in the source it is and which template it uses. I haven't looked for solutions. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:24, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I've fixed the template with this edit. It was generating two copies of the reference, one with the access date and one without. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:51, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It needs a source. If you add a source, there will be no problem. — Preceding unsigned comment added by James lujel (talkcontribs) 04:10, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, John and PrimeHunter. Dismas|(talk) 12:21, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

incorrect information in article[edit]

I'm not a wikipedia editor and not really interested in becoming one. I wasn't sure where else to report this. In the article for author Rainbow Rowell, someone appears to have pasted information related to the Harry Potter series. See below:

For cover art, a painted art in a classic style of design, with the first cover a watercolour and pencil drawing by illustrator Jensen Tayor, and a title in the font Cochin Bold.[76] The first releases of the successive books in the series followed in the same style but somewhat more realistic, illustrating scenes from the books. These covers were created by first Kabinsh Cutro and then Millen Canott, Imperial arts College young people status.[77] Due to the appeal of the books among an adult audience, Bloomsbury commissioned a second line of editions in an 'fashion' style. These covers were created by first Jamie Mcrano and then Jasmit Sangha, Imperial arts College young people status. These initially used black-and-white photographic art for the covers showing objects from the books (including a very American Hogwarts Express) without depicting people, but later shifted to partial colourisation with a picture of Slytherin's locket on the cover of the final book.

International and later editions have been created by a range of designers, including Mary GrandPré for U.S. audiences and Mika Launis in Finland.[78][79] For a later American release, Kazu Kibuishi created covers in a somewhat anime-influenced style — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:681:4601:B176:593F:1FF1:94D7:C1F8 (talk) 02:36, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the content. Perhaps those were test edits? Also, note that the editor who added the content, Imperialco, attempted to add info about Imperial Arts College London.[1] Is that username allowed? Czoal (talk) 04:21, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, and it has now been blocked accordingly.--ukexpat (talk) 13:24, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for Protection Status[edit]

How do I find out the reason for the protection status (in this case, 'pending changes protection') of an article? Clivemacd (talk) 12:25, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Clivemacd: Click the "View history" tab and then "View logs for this page" at the top. If you don't see a reason there then post the page name. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:42, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How do I enlarge the font size on Wikipedia?[edit]

Hello, First off, I'm sure this question tells you I have very little experience using computers at all, let alone Wikipedia, but here goes. I want to be able to dramatically enlarge the text on Wikipedia, while still fitting it to the screen size. Many of my clients need this as they are vision impaired. Is this possible? I'm not certain how you can answer my question without an email address, but I've edited it out, at your recommendation. might be too late, as I already hit the save button. The page I'm on is quite confusing to me. I seem to be welcomed to the "Wikipedia Help Desk", but the rest of the page suggests that I'm submitting my question as an article to be published on Wikipedia. That will be funny, is that happens. I expect to get some interesting email. So go ahead, publish my question! Thanks very much! Doug — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.245.141.145 (talk) 18:42, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Most browsers have a zoom function built in. If you are using Chrome, that option can be found in the upper right in the menu bar (look for three horizontal lines). The zoom function will increase the text size while still keeping everything on the page. If you are using a different browser could you let us know which one? Also, you might want to try holding the Ctrl key and pressing the + button. This is the normal shortcut for zoom. --Stabila711 (talk) 19:20, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Control+ also works in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. Dbfirs 21:36, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cite errors after recent software upgrade[edit]

I used Template:Sfn in Chicken Kiev with and without ps= parameter. At the 1st occurence I wrote e.g.

{{sfn|Stepun|1947|ps=. In his memoirs Fyodor Stepun recalls in particular his school graduation in May 1900 and mentions: "Обедали мы совсем как взрослые: закуска, котлеты «de volaille», Гурьевская каша и к ней две бутылки шампанского..." – "We were dining like adults: [[zakuski]], cutlets de volaille, Guriev porridge and two bottles of [[Sovetskoye Shampanskoye#History|champagne]]..."}},

and at the 2nd occurence just

{{sfn|Stepun|1947}}.

I did this in accordance with the sfn template documentation, which specifies: "The postscript is only effective the first time {{sfn}} is used for a particular author, year and location." So the subsequent short citations refered to the same note containing the quote without retyping the quote which is absolutely fine in this case. Some of these postscripts are really long, and it would be very uncomfortable to copy them each time where the same reference is placed. These postscripts are useful in this article as they include the respective quotes from old and rare Russian sources with their English translations. Now on gets a red alert "name ... defined multiple times with different content" for each case of this kind. How can this be corrected? --Off-shell (talk) 20:29, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How do I submit a draft?[edit]

I am an unregistered user of Wikipedia, so I can't submit articles directly. I have decided to submit a draft for Apaches Entertainment, which doesn't have its own page, but I don't know how to do that. What should I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.43.151.114 (talk) 22:02, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Link: Draft:Apaches Entertainment
  • You almost had it. The correct format is {{subst:submit}}. No spaces. However, in its current form it is not going to be accepted. Please read your first article to help you get started. Articles must have references and they must prove why they are notable to have a Wikipedia article on them. Right now, your draft has no references and very little information. Please continue to work on it before submitting it for review. --Stabila711 (talk) 22:08, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
