Phabricator[edit]

Hello! Would somebody like to help me submit a proposal to Phabricator? What I would like to suggest is adding the option "upright" to the editor surface function "embedded file" (for all Wikipedia versions, of course!). I'd be grateful for any help since I'm not familiar to how Phabricator actually works and I admittedly find it a bit confusing for somebody not on the inside – though I do think that the community could in fact benefit from my idea... Hoping for your cooperation, best greetings--Hubon (talk) 00:48, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding page, Out & Loud - Pune International Queer Film Festival[edit]

Hi,

I have created a page for Out & Loud - Pune International Queer Film Festival and the content in the page is from the website outnloud.lgbtq.co.in. However, i got a notification that I have used the copyright information and the page is set for speedy deletion. But the website belongs me and my partner, and we are the owner of the website. So is it okay to have the same information or should i do anything to remove the speedy deletion tag from the page?

You need to take additional steps so that we can confirm that it is you who both own the copyright and wish to release it under a free license (see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials). However, in the vast majority of cases using such material is a terrible idea in the first place: chances are that it is not written from an encyclopedic, neutral angle. Even if it were, it certainly does not seem to be neither a reliable source nor a source that is independent of the article subject. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 05:06, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sriram2792: Please understand that Wikipedia has little interest in anything which a subject (whether a company, a person, a band, a charity, or anything else) says or wants to say about itself. That includes the subject's own publications, and also anything published by an independent source but based on an interview or press release from the subject. An article should be largely based on what people who have no connection with the subject have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable places. In any case, every single fact or claim in an article should be derived from a published reliable source. Please see WP:V for more information. (This does not directly answer your question, which Finnusertop has already done; but is additional information that you need to know). --ColinFine (talk) 13:39, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Page deleted. Help in restoring![edit]

Hi there, I wish you to reconsider the deletion of page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happiest_Minds_Technologies I was trying to update the content of our page, but for some reasons the page got deleted.

Kindly help me restore back the page of Happiest Minds and would appreciate some guidance in making our page more valid.42.109.161.162 (talk) 06:43, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the deletion message 06:52, February 13, 2017 DGG (talk | contribs | block) deleted page Happiest Minds Technologies (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion: Expired PROD, concern was: Nothing establishing actual independent notability and substance given what's here is only what they would advertise to clients and that alone is violating our policies, worse when accompanied by the fscbpgh the information and sources are clear published and republished business announcements, mentions, company activities and quoted interviews; the history itself shows there's been a heavy wave of activities in both accounts and IPs. All sources in fact share the bold consistency in always focusing with the company's own words.
I've looked at the text, and it just spam by and for the company, I completely agree with the deletion, and i wouldn't consider restoring it. You do not own a page here, anyone can edit any article, it's not your page. If you don't understand the deletion message, discuss with DGG. In any case, you should not write about your own company, and if you do, you are required by our T&C to make a formal declaration of conflict of interest and disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page using the template {{Paid}} Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:02, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also, please see the answer I gave to Sriram in the item just above this --ColinFine (talk) 13:45, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use and images of people[edit]

Is a copyrighted photograph of a person possibly fair use if the subject of the photograph is a person who is deceased, meaning that a free-use photograph of them isn't going to exist if it does not already? DavidSSabb (talk) 09:32, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Generally speaking yes. See point 10 of WP:NFCI, and remember that all other points of WP:NFCCP matter as well. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 09:35, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm too unskilled to properly list a new AFD[edit]

I don't start many AFDs. I tried to start on Jewish right and somehow failed to follow instructions and list it properly at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. My apologies for troubling you with this. Grateful for your help.E.M.Gregory (talk) 10:00, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It can be a real hassle manually. I'd suggest you go to Preferences and turn on Twinkle. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 10:07, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@E.M.Gregory: I fixed up the AFD page for you. The instructions for next time are at WP:AFDHOWTO - but Finnusertop is correct, Twinkle makes it much easier. -- John of Reading (talk) 10:09, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Account[edit]

How can I find the date when my account was created? Benjamin (talk) 14:50, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Click on 'preferences' at the top of any page. Eagleash (talk) 14:53, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Or look in the logs. †dismas†|(talk) 14:54, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

neal[edit]

Could someone tell neal i'm trying to talk with him? I'm just not very good with a computer and don't know how to reach him? Thank you, sincerely, Bob Mattie — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:100E:B126:8A8F:1C23:798:EECC:C0F7 (talk) 19:56, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is the help page for the Wikipedia online encyclopedia. Is Neal a user here? If so, what is his username? If not, you'll need to find another way to reach Neal. RudolfRed (talk) 21:50, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Language link is to the wrong article[edit]

Bob Kuhn was flagged as 'potentially dead' because the German language link is to a different Bob Kuhn, Robert Frederick Kuhn who is dead. As far as I can tell, the Bob Kuhn in California is still alive. How do I fix this? Leschnei (talk) 23:39, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Leschnei: Remove the English Wikipedia entry from the linked Wikidata item, which claims the same death date. Pppery 23:51, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Done! And I removed 'politician' for good measure. Thanks for your help, Leschnei (talk) 00:00, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
