how do i add photograph of released film on Wikipedia article ? SGK 07:17, 13 January 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shrinivaskulkarni1388 (talkcontribs)

Hello, Shrinivaskulkarni1388. The first thing to do is read this important page about image policy. It has information about what kind of photograph you may be able to add to an article. Wikipedia has certain rules about what is ok or not. If you're ready to upload a picture, use the "Upload file" link in the "Tools" menu. Let us know if you have any questions. Help:Cite errors/Cite error references duplicate key[edit]

Hi there I tried to update some latest events for tourism development bank using the references given below but it shows some error. Could some body help me please?? http://www.sharesansar.com/c/tourism-development-bank-starts-joint-operation-after-acquiring-matribhumi-and-kalinchowk-dev-bank.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juren Khatri (talkcontribs) 07:37, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Juren Khatri, you used the same reference name tag, <ref name="Sharesansar">, for two different web addresses. The article is short, so you don't need to use the "name" tag. Just use the "cite web" tag without the preceding "name" tag. If you did use the "name" tag, subsequent uses would look like this, <ref name = "Sharesansar"/>, without including the same full web address again. That's what it's for; it's an efficiency tool. DonFB (talk) 07:58, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
One more thing, Juren Khatri. You should use a <ref> tag before and a </ref> tag after each "cite web" reference. DonFB (talk) 09:03, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Delete a Wiki Page[edit]

Hi there I created a page and I would now like to delete it as we need more online articles and interviews to be able to make this page acceptable on Wikipedia. How do I do this. I have deleted all the text ? GSmusic (talk) 08:47, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GSmusic and welcome to the TeaHouse. The article in question is Matt Nicholson (composer). If you're planning to work on expanding the article, a better option might be to have the old version (with content) copied over to a User Draft, which will allow you time to work on it and get it right. Make sure you specify which old version you want - the process for getting this done is at Wikipedia:Userfication. --Gronk Oz (talk) 09:23, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is this site handling copyright matters of Wiki's correct? --FredTC (talk) 13:17, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey FredTC. I believe the answer is no. They do not appear to include any licensing information or attribute Wikipedia as the source for their content in any way. I have listed the site at Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks. TimothyJosephWood 13:30, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ranked list guidance[edit]

Is anyone aware of any information pages, guidelines, or policies on ranked lists (whether stand-alone or embedded)) and, more specifically, the way sourcing and original research interplay with them. By ranked list, I mean (for example) lists of the x most viewed viral videos, the ten best types of widgets, and the like. I realize that there may be other problems with many if not most of these lists, such as NOT and UNDUE, but there are a couple of inquiries about them at the NOR noticeboard and before opining there, I'd like to be sure there's no preexisting guidance on the NOR/sourcing issues. Anyone familiar with any? Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 18:32, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Having looked at the NORN cases, I think one policy to account for is WP:CALC. I think that would justify to source e.g. an article "list of countries by apple production" (IINFO may apply, of course) to an "atlas of apple production" that does not rank the productions (but gives all the numbers). On the other hand, the NORN issues seem to be more about taking info from different sources, in which case the standard WP:SYNTH, and also common sense (when the methodology is important, don't do it!) caveat applies. • WP:V and WP:NOR apply to lists just as they do to prose articles. There are no exceptions; all you have to do is to simply abide by the policy. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 20:31, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Link to Google Scholar[edit]

Hello! On this page after the name "Tinde van Andel" I am trying to add a link to a google scholar page where you see the text "google scholar". Every time I try to add the link, I basically break the page and the list in total stops showing up. What on earth am I doing wrong?? https://scholar.google.nl/citations?user=wtp_JswAAAAJ&hl=nl Emjackson42 (talk) 19:45, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is because of equal signs. Ruslik_Zero 21:00, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thank you! That's good to know and that makes sense. Thank you. Emjackson42 (talk) 21:28, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Color pollution on my Talk page from a well-wisher[edit]

This edit appears to be the one that caused all subsequent entries on my Talk page to be colored and indented. I don't have the technical skill to fix it. I would appreciate it, if someone did. I'll be able to monitor the edit and see how they did it. Thanks, User:HopsonRoad 20:17, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edit for Poplar Bluff Mayoral List[edit]

Good afternoon! I am the City Clerk for the City of Poplar Bluff in Missouri. I received a call from a woman who stated she knew her father was Mayor here in our town in the mid 70's but that someone had contacted her and said there were discrepancies on the Wikipedia page relative to Poplar Bluff Mayors. She is correct as I have looked over the list for the last hour or so and there are many dates that are incorrect and some Mayors who have been omitted. Is this something that I can edit myself and if so how can I insert a new row or cell to put this info into? Please feel free to give me a call at my office at <redacted>. Thank you!

Pamela Kearbey Clerk/Treasurer City of Poplar Bluff 501 Vine Street Poplar Bluff, MO 63901 <redacted> — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pskearbey (talkcontribs) 21:02, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pamela, thanks for asking. It would be better if you didn't edit the page yourself, because of our Conflict of Interest policy. All information in a Wikipedia article needs to be backed up by reliable published sources. Is there any document or webpage you can point us to that gives the correct and complete list of mayors? A couple of other things: No one will call you; all discussion will take place within Wikipedia. I've redacted your number to save you from unwanted calls. Secondly, discussion about a particular page should take place on that article's talk page, in this case Talk:Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Regards, Rojomoke (talk) 22:13, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, that should of course be Talk:List of mayors of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Rojomoke (talk) 22:23, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling fix[edit]

I'd like to know how to get the words "bare" fixed in Judgment of Solomon. I fixed them, but someone undid the fix [1]. I asked him why [2], but he hasn't said anything back. 208.95.51.72 (talk) 22:00, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Someone else was fixing them as I was writing this. You don't need to do anything. 208.95.51.72 (talk) 22:08, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How do I improve the appearance on mobile?[edit]

I just added a big section to Deseret alphabet, #Handwriting. I want to make this into a WP:FA (even though I really don't know if I'll ever get there or not, so far I haven't even passed a GA nom but that's off topic)

But it looks really ugly on mobile. [3] It's because I have to display the tables large for it to look good on PC. What I wanted to do originally was to put a percent width and then height auto, but I can't figure out how to do that. Anyone an expert wiki coder who can help? Thanks Psiĥedelisto (talk) 22:36, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It looks pretty good to me. It may help that, when using Wikipedia on my mobile, I always hold it landscape-wise. Maproom (talk) 08:43, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Someone keeps changing the Adam Haslett photo[edit]

I manage the page for Adam Haslett, and someone keeps changing his photo. The one I have uploaded is legal and correct. Can someone please change it back? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Haslett

The image you uploaded was deleted from Commons by commons:User:Wdwd, so another editor restored it with the previous image. You're going to have to find out why the image was deleted: since I can't see the image since it's already gone I can't be sure. Try editing Wdwd's talk page and asking him for guidance, and be sure to read c:Commons:Licensing. Psiĥedelisto (talk) 23:50, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
One of the deletion logs makes the reason clear. --David Biddulph (talk) 00:26, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There are messages on your user talk page at Commons (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Lpassell#top) that explain why the image was removed. Any images you upload need to be under a free license. Stop uploading images until you understand the requirements. RudolfRed (talk) 23:55, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You said: "I manage the page for Adam Haslett", so it sounds as if you need to read WP:Ownership of content. --David Biddulph (talk) 00:08, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
