Can wikilinks be made to parts of articles at more than one "level"?[edit]

Resolved

Hello again. I know how to use the # to link to subsections of articles. However, I can't get any farther. For example, I know how to link to the types of tubulin section of the Tubulin article, but I can't get links to more specific subsections. For example, I tried to use [[Tubulin#Types#Eukaryotic#γ-Tubulin|γ-Tubulin]] to link to the γ-Tubulin subsection, but it doesn't work. Is there some wiki code that allows linking to sub-subsections? Thank you. JeanOhm (talk) 02:57, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You just emit the name of the higher-level section(s) completely, giving γ-Tubulin. Pppery 03:00, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nazareth Population Data -Reviewer Refuses to Correct[edit]

30.9% should be "Jewish and others" according to Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (not "Christian")

This is a content dispute (and quite a confusing one: some of the sources are in Hebrew, there are two adjacent settlements both named "Nazareth", some of the sources present the statistics in confusing ways) and so should be discussed at Talk:Nazareth. Maproom (talk) 07:31, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you're aware the source link given (which I extended with its English counterpart) tells about NAZERAT ILLIT, not NAZARETH. They are separate localities in CBS.IL data, also Google Maps distinguish between them:

Wiki page has correct info, but wrong info shown on Google search result[edit]

In the Google search results for the term ‘Aptech’ (https://g.co/kgs/dncGnj) the name of the CEO is shown as Ninad B Karpe, which is incorrect. The Wikipedia page for Aptech (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aptech) correctly displays the name as Anil Pant. I have clicked on the feedback option in the Google search results page and raised this issue a couple of times. However, it isn’t updated yet. Is there a section within the Wiki to edit what is being displayed in the Google search result? How can I fix this issue? Please help — Preceding unsigned comment added by TanMdan (talkcontribs) 05:48, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's up to Google to decide what they display. They display the contents of their database. The database is filled and periodically updated with data they fetch from the Web (also from Wikipedia, among others sources), but it's only Google's decision how often and when exactly they fetch new data. I'm afraid the only way available to you to request the update is a 'feedback' link. --CiaPan (talk) 06:26, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TanMdan: I don't know how Google processes feedback but it may help if they get the same report from multiple places and with an explanation. I have marked it as wrong and entered this in the optional field: "Current CEO is Anil Pant: https://www.aptech-worldwide.com/pages/investor-relations/investorrelations_board_of_directors.aspx". Thanks for making an accurate post about the problem. See Template:HD/GKG for our stock reply to the typical poster who claims the error is in Wikipedia and doesn't mention Google. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:34, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I did a Google search 'slow correction google "featured snippet" -rank -optimize' and (after not finding anything relevant) was told that searches related to this are "is obama planning a coup", "david icke", "theresa may". BTW I found lots of amusing pages about errors in featured snippets.[1] Thincat (talk) 10:01, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To keep or not to keep the copyrighted image (logo)?[edit]

A year ago I've uploaded a File:Tun Abdul Razak Univ logo.png for an article about a Malaysian university Universiti Tun Abdul Razak. Recently I noticed the university has changed the logo on their Web site, so I've uploaded a new version File:Unirazak logo.jpg and replaced it in the article.

Should the old file be deleted now, because it became obsolete and it can't be used in any other article for any other purpose due to © restrictions? Or should it be kept, and possibly even displayed at the Universiti Tun Abdul Razak page as a kind of historical record? In the former case, what is the proper way to nominate a file for deletion? --CiaPan (talk) 06:36, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.
Is there a better place on Wikipedia to ask this kind of question? --CiaPan (talk) 06:38, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Old non-free logos are deleted unless they illustrate a specific discussion about the logo (not just "here is the old logo") and that's rare. A bot has already detected it's no longer used and added it to Wikipedia:Database reports/Unused non-free files. Another bot will tag the file page and later an administrator will probably delete it. Files can be nominated for deletion at Wikipedia:Files for discussion or for speedy deletion with a tag at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Files, but you don't have to do anything yourself in this case. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:23, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I just tagged it upon reading the post. At least I learnt there is a bot doing these things.
@CiaPan: if you have copyright-related questions, the usual venue is WP:CQ. TigraanClick here to contact me 08:28, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Tigraan, for taking appropriate means for deletion.
Thank you, PrimeHunter, for explaining the process of cleaning things.

Problems Uploading an Article due to Advertising[edit]

Dear help desk. I am a student at Bryant University and have been doing some extensive research on the sport betting industry/ gambling industry. I have identified many sport betting companies on Wikipedia that have helped me greatly with my research however, I noticed there was no page on Playtech BGT Sports. Therefor I have attempted to create my own article to help other researchers out. Shortly after I wrote a simple overview of Playtech BGT Sports I received a message that it was promotional. Could you please assist me in finding out what information leads to such an assumption? I think many people would benefit from this article. Here is the exact URL of the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playtech_BGT_Sports Best

Thombinder (talk) 10:04, 8 June 2017 (UTC)Thombinder (talk) 10:00, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the page is at Draft:Playtech BGT Sports. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:34, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There was a page at the link provided but it has been speedy deleted as promotional. Eagleash (talk) 11:38, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It has now been re-created. Eagleash (talk) 11:54, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thombinder. Thank you for trying to improve Wikipedia. Unfortunately, creating a new article is difficult. Your first article gives lots of useful information; but one of the things I would say is that Wikipedia is not interested in what you (or I) know about a topic, and it is certainly not interested in what the subject or its associates say about it. What you need to do is find substantial indepedent published sources - ignore anything published or said by the subject, including anything based on interviews or press releases - then forget everything you know about the subject and write the article based only on what those sources say. --ColinFine (talk) 13:08, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help.--ColinFine (talk) I will try my best to rewrite it now. I did use published sources though such as An Annual report or the Financial times. Any ideas what other type of sources I could use? Thombinder (talk) 13:34, 8 June 2017 (UTC)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Thombinder (talkcontribs) 13:33, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

An editor, esmgee, keeps altering information that is clearly in the references and citations. In the grandparents section, this editor likes to say things like "kitson family" rather than give the correct name of the person who is referred to in the citation. This editor also removed a photo which adds to this section of the article. Please place the picture back - I cannot do it on this device. Thanks 2001:8003:4ECD:F300:C9F2:CBD8:1FC5:9E23 (talk) 11:28, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The place to discuss the article is Talk:Family of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:33, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a certain place to get feedback on the above page? I'm not an expert in the sport, even though I have created it since it is a rather notable topic. It is a short page. I have posted on the project page and I don't know if the talk page has enough edit traffic. Anything would be appreciated. Tinton5 (talk) 22:06, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Tinton5. Wow, just when I think all the sort of common topics have been covered... I mean, I'm not saying this is like us not having an article on, I don't know, a very common species of animals, but I am quite surprised this does not already exist. Good on you for starting it. I suggest looking at bowling and importing relevant, sourced content from there, specific to alleys. (If you follow that suggestion, be sure to provide copyright attribution each time you copy and save from there; just mention what you are doing in the edit summary and hyperlink the source, e.g: Copying content from our existing article on [[bowling]]; see its page history for attribution). You might look in Category:Bowling for other articles that might have useful content. You might post to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Bowling, and possibly Talk:Bowling for feedback and to invite interested editors to help out. Hope this helps. Duplicated infobox image in Cormac J. Carney[edit]

In article Cormac J. Carney, I have embedded Infobox football gridiron person into Infobox judge. Previously, both templates were separate. The image of the subject is included in Infobox judge, but duplicates in the other infobox, both when they were separate and now that they are embedded. I would like to know how to suppress the duplicate image. Thanks. Safiel (talk) 22:35, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

An empty |image= does the trick. Pppery 22:56, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
