White Pride

I have been a faithful financial supporter to wikipedia for many years. But after seeing the page about White Pride, I am not happy. The article describes a racist slogan used by racists, and points out that the idea of "white pride" is racist. Pointing out racism is not the same as endorsing racism. We're not going to pretend that white supremacists are good people. Ian.thomson (talk) 01:45, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

(e/c) People who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. Is your post about the treatment of the topic in the white pride article? Or is your post because we have an article on the subject of white pride? If the former, and you think the article says something promotional or complimentary about white pride, that's an excellent subject for discussion (usually held on an article's talk page). If the latter, you're barking up the wrong tree. An encyclopedia has articles on notable subjects. It will have articles on Nazism and Facism, and cannibalism and serial killers and white pride, and pseudoscience and a million other subjects that are part of history, and human knowledge, without endorsing the underlying philosophy. A lot of people don't know what the Celtic Cross in the lead photo means. People who don't know are doomed to get a tattoo they will regret. As long as notability is established by reliable sources, we can't delete a page. We have many similar articles about other "slogans", like Special Snowflake Seraphim System ^(talk) 02:10, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

The post is so vague that we don't know what it refers to. The article is critical of white pride so the poster may be a supporter of the concept who is trying to complain that the article is racist against white people. If that's the case then see Wikipedia:Neutral point of view#Giving "equal validity" can create a false balance. The prevailing view in reliable sources is against white pride and the article reflects that. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:30, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

James von Brunn

L3X1 Is this article from The New York Times not considered proof? The article mentions that Von Brunn edited Cordell Hull and if you check the user contributions of User:James von Brunn, the Wikpedian did contribute on Hull. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 02:39, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Hitcher vs. Candyman I didn't check the article itself, I saw the Cordell hull contrib and weird rant that was his user page and assumed it was a troll. My only concern is that 3 edits in 2 years not counting as "Wikipedian". He effectively was a troll due to his NPOV activities. However, as many people listed on Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles don't have an abundance of articles, I would say it is safe to add him. Jeez I dunno. What is a "Wikipedian"? User:James von Brunn had three edits. The first one, he signed the top of article, which was probably a rookie mistake but you could also call it vandalism. (He also changed Hull's infobox "spouse" field from "Rose Frances Witz" to "Rose Frances Witz, Orthodox Jew" which I don't see being in line with our usual practice for that field.)

The second was to his user page, which someone had to take the effort to blank for violating the userpage policy, possibly because it was demented rant where "Judaism is the Enemy of Mankind" was among the kinder sentiments. His third edit was a random (and misplaced) question at Wikipedia:Requests for feedback. And that's it.

I mean, my cat is a better Wikipedian than that. This guy's WAR is like -0.7 in three games. He was a vandal, basically, not a "Wikipedian". Is this really the kind of "editor" that someone perusing Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles will expect? How it is an asset to that article? It's cruft to clutter up the page and degrade the reader's experience. I would not add him. Herostratus (talk) 05:42, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

WMF seesion log out problems

Please help with formatting

There is a quote about the Lord Lyon - this is fine. But then the quote finishes. so the section beginning - "Historically, the term bonnet laird...." should NOT be indented. The format should be returned to the normal format, no indentation.

@101.182.219.133: I have fixed the quote so that it ends before "Historically the term etc." The closing }} had been placed at the end of the para. beginning "Historically etc." so it became included within the quote. @101.182.219.133: Apart from the formatting, which Eagleash has corrected, the quote had been correct until you changed the wording. A quote is a quote, and must be verbatim, not your rewording. A couple of years ago I pointed out (to the OP of a related query) that Reference 1 of this article (a) names the printer rather than the publisher of the book in question (which I own) and (b) that so far as I can tell the book nowhere supports part of the statement (". . . roughly equivalent to an esquire in England, yet ranking above the same in Scotland") for which it is cited (though it doesn't contradict this part, which I actually believe to be correct). Given that Lairdships fall into an area of "titles" about which there have been scams and dubious claims, perhaps this article needs a close inspection by an expert (which I am not). His IMDB entry (as mentioned in the Peter Goodwright article) says he was born "in Haslington, Cheshire". And Haslington is indeed in Cheshire. Haslingden however is in Lancashire. I have re-corrected the article. Maproom (talk) 11:37, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Edit a particular section in visual editor?

Is it possible to edit a particular section in visual editor? Sometimes I don't want the entire article to be available to edit, especially if the page is very long, as it takes a while for visual editor to start up. Llightex (talk) 13:24, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia:VisualEditor#Limitations says: "Cannot edit a single section – VisualEditor loads and submits only entire pages. Clicking an edit link for a section will scroll to the appropriate section upon opening. In VisualEditor's model, editing sections would be paradoxically slower than editing the whole page." Belleville New Jersey

I'm writing because I have found something in a Wikipedia page that may not or most likely be true? On the page for Belleville N.J. there is a paragraph that claims that Belleville was supporters of the Nazi Party during the war. It reads as:

During World War II, Belleville was a major supporter to the German Nazi Party. The town held rallies and fund raisers and was actually threatened by the United States Government to cease all political activity. Mayor John Gibbin outlawed any political movement for the remainder of the war.

As far as being true, I have read thru alot of the Town Minutes written during World War 2. I have not found any mention of Nazi Party support nor have I found any law or Ordinance pass pertaining to the political movements then. The one thing I can assure you as to being untrue is the Mayor John Gibbons. There never was a John Gibbons Mayor in Belleville ever. You can look that up yourself. Now I dont know how to correct the Wiki pages, but I am asking you to ask Town Councilman and Historian Mr. Kennedy that can be reached at the Town Hall during the week in the mornings. Get the correct info and edit the incorrect info.

Should West Coast Style be deleted?

This article was questionable to begin with; it is unreferenced and seems to exist primarily to sell DVDs. And now the website appears to be dead. Should it be deleted? Leschnei (talk) 20:08, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Having looked at the article just now I'm going to say yes, it should. It should have been deleted in 2006 or so. I can find no indication of notability for this mountain biking website and its series of educational videos. I actually expected the article to be about some kind of fashion trend originating on the West Coast of the U.S., and when I google it that's the sort of thing that comes up. Need urgently to delete a page

Hi,

A person entered a page of a famous thinker and writer and wrote false information about him, I tried to delete the information or add a deletion request to the page but this person: Omaislam, blocked me..

This is the English Wikipedia, that page is in the Arabic Wikipedia. We can not help you. You need to discuss this on the Arabic Wikipedia. There is an English version, Youssef Ziedan and that has never been edited by Omaislam. ~ GB fan 21:54, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

(e/c) Hi Youssef ziedan. Each language Wikipedia is separate (and has its own admins, and own policies and guidelines). You would need to make your request at the Arabic Wikipedia. I see you are blocked there as a vandalism only account, without talk page privileges, so as far as I know you have no options (as I don't think they have an equivalent of WP:UTRS). I do see that the page you wish to delete is an article on the same name as your account, that you have been accused of vandalizing. That is almost never a good sign, but the language barrier makes it difficult for me to track this down any further.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 21:58, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

New article not detected by search engines

Hi there! I wrote a new article on the volleyball player Jim Menges and put it up about three weeks ago, but it still is not coming up on search engines. I borrowed some material from other articles to create the article's talk page, and I think I goofed and managed to skip past the review step. Hmmm. Can we fix this? Go back for a review? It was created 2 May. New articles automatically get noindex for 30 days or until they are reviewed by a user with the required permission. You didn't miss anything. Reviews are not requested by the author and the article is listed at Special:NewPages but there is a huge backlog and it may not be reviewed within 30 days.
