November 30[edit]

Just created a page. Did I do it right?[edit]

No clue what I am doing. Our African Grey Petra just went viral on Youtube learinig to control the lights with Alexa. She's been all over the world on TV. If I didn't do it right, can someone help me? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PetraGrey (talkcontribs) 01:16, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PetraGrey Unfortuanly you have got wrong what Wikipedia is for. It is not a webhost and articles shouldn't be created on a user page. As for the article, I'm not sure it would meet notability requirements to have an article on Wikipedia. NZFC(talk) 01:27, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi PetraGrey. I've moved the page to User:PetraGrey/Petra Grey and marked it as a draft. There are links to instructions that can help you at the top of the page. --NeilN talk to me 01:50, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Name of page linking to incorrect picture from similarly named page (KOB page showing picture of kob, an antelope in Africa)[edit]

Hi, hope you can help me. Our tv station's page KOB is showing a pic (rather undignified one at that) of some kobs in Africa. How can we change this? Since our formal name is KOB 4 , would adding the 4 in our page name help? If yes, how do we do that? Thank you for helping !!!

NMpeacock (talk) 01:33, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. NZFC(talk) 01:42, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@NMpeacock: You should also read WP:COI if you wish to edit the page KOB. On another note it would not be 'your' companies page, but Wikipedia's page about them which is constructed around what has been written about the company in independent reliable sources. NZFC(talk) 01:48, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The undignified picture used by Google is not one currently used in Wikipedia's article kob. Maybe Google found it somewhere else? Maproom (talk) 15:50, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Random Character Usernames[edit]

Lately I have been seeing several usernames with seemingly random strings of numbers and letters, in blocks of 4, separated by colons. (Examples: user:2604:2000:E016:A700:E067:330B:890A:138, User:2601:CF:8101:327:3C0C:73D0:5CFA:D1BD, User:2600:1:9507:C18A:18CF:FDF8:43A3:AA4F). Where are these coming from? They seem new to me. MarginalCost (talk) 02:14, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Those are IP addresses. They are editors who are contributing without creating an account or logging in if they have one. (See IPv6 address &/or IP address#IPv6 addresses). Eagleash (talk) 02:37, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I want to make a donation to wikipedia but I don't want to use my credit card. I would really like to contact by telephone and ask questions.[edit]

I would like to donate to Wikipedia but do not want to use my credit card.

This page shows different ways to give, such as by check or wire transfer or bitcoins or several other methods that don't use a credit card: https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give RudolfRed (talk) 02:49, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I don't know of any phone number, but you can e-mail donate@wikimedia.org if you have questions. RudolfRed (talk) 02:51, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
May be buy game from humble bundle and switch to donate all to wikimedia? But it still disclose either paypal, amazon payment method, but at least (i believe), humble bundle would not send payment detail to wikimedia. Matthew_hk tc 02:48, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2018 NCAA Division I Indepedents football page[edit]

Can you move the 2018 NCAA Division I football Independents page from the talk page to the Draft page please. 68.102.39.189 (talk) 04:46, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This IP has been told on countless occasions not to create drafts on a talk page, most recently at #2018 Pac-12 Football standings above. The most recent page moved from talk to draft (Draft:2018 Pac–12 football standings) was then blanked by the IP, but it is not clear whether he intended this as a G7 deletion request. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:04, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It might also be argued that the unsourced 2018 NCAA Division I FBS football season, calling numerous non-existent templates including the one referred to, is TOOSOON. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:10, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

EN Standard Inclusion i.e., EN 14175 Standard[edit]

Hello,

This is Yuvakanth, I'm a Manager for a firm called Simfa Scientific who deals with Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Company requirement for new lab or facility setups. Our brands are Mott Manufacturing, Canada & Laborbau Systeme Hemling GmbH, Germany.

With respect to the brands above which I mentioned there are few standards that our products are certified with. About which there is no data under List of EN Standard page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_EN_standards ; With respect to that, I request to please post data about EN 14175 which is a standard for Fume Hood(Fume Cupboard) Testing or Validation. I do have few articles and presentations from the internet, however, I think I'm not qualified for posting them in Wiki right away as we need to do some filtration out of them. Kindly let me know how to proceed with this to include the data in Wiki.

Thank you,

Regards, KLN Yuvakanth — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yuvakanthkln (talkcontribs)

Hello, Yuvakanth. Since Wikipedia is an entirely volunteer project, there is no effective way to get people to create the particular articles you want. You are welcome to post a request at Requested articles, but the truth is that that list is so long that it is not likely that anybody will pick your request up. I thought there might be a WikiProject about international standards, where you might find somebody interested in working on that; but there doesn't seem to be one. If you have already got some information about the subject, you might be the best person to create an article! However, it is true that it is not easy to create a Wikipedia article, so I understand why you may be reluctant to do so. However, if you wish to try, please have a look at your first article. There is no deadline for Wikipedia - you can create an draft and work on it a a speed that is convenient to you, and eventually submit it for review by more experienced editors. If you are looking for somebody to create an aricle quickly that you can use for research, I'm afraid that that will not happen. --ColinFine (talk) 12:43, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2018 Pac-12 Football standings[edit]

Can you move the Pac-12 Football standings from the draft page to the main article space please and make the articles turn from Blue to red. 68.102.39.189 (talk) 15:38, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You blanked the draft (Draft:2018 Pac–12 football standings), so obviously it can't be published as an article. Even before you blanked it, the draft was unsourced, and you hadn't submitted the draft for review; apparently too soon for such an article. As you were the only contributor to the draft and you blanked it, this would normally be taken as your request for the page to be deleted under criterion G7. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:33, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Biz Television[edit]

I am trying to update this page and keep getting errors. I need help. I have tried to do what has been asked so far but there is so much confusion and frustration on my end. I need someone to help me get through these pages and stop sending me here and there to read. I have been reading all of it each time and it still is not making sense to me. I need a person to help me.

I see that today, some blatant advertising, some copyright material, and some "references" which were nowhere cited have been removed from the article. But it's still well below the standards Wikipedia expects: it does nothing to establish that its subject is notable, and is therefore at risk of being deleted. You don't say which edits you made, or what you were trying to do, so it's difficult to know how to help you. Maproom (talk) 17:51, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How to get an article about our company to show on WIKI?[edit]

Hi,

I would like to know how can I publish an article about our company on wiki?

Best, Jasmine — Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.106.215.6 (talk) 18:21, 30 November 2017‎ (UTC)[reply]

The short answer is "you don't". Hopefully, your company will attain sufficient notability that some volunteer editor will decide to create an article based on reliable sources independent of the subject. Somebody will presumably provide relevant links for you to review (below). Good luck! ;) 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:64E6:D15B:14E5:3BCB (talk) 19:19, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The relevant links are notability, conflict of interest, and paid editing. The important thing to remember is that this is an encyclopedia and not a business directory. If you still want to move forward, read your first article and use the article wizard there to create a draft for review. RudolfRed (talk) 19:42, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Godless (TV Series)[edit]

Hello,

On the Godless TV Series page under creators (the box on the far right) can you remove Steven Soderbergh as a creator and only list Scott Frank? (Steven Soderbergh is not a creator).

Created by Scott Frank

GL6255 (talk) 19:22, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@GL6255: The best place to discuss this is on the article's talk page. IMDb is not considered a reliable source for this kind of information and "the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" (meaning just because he is not included in credits on IMDb doesn't necessarily mean he should not be). The Steven Soderbergh article includes Godless as a credit; however, this is not sourced. Perhaps the Entertainment reference desk would be able to find source(s) for this. —2606:A000:4C0C:E200:64E6:D15B:14E5:3BCB (talk) 19:36, 30 November 2017 (UTC) (Modified: 20:06, 30 November 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Thank you for the above! The info of removing Steven is from the network. Is this possible to update?

Scott Frank is the creator/EP/Writer/Director (Steven is not the creator, but an EP, along with Scott and Casey Silver too).

Here is an article from Variety stating: "Godless, a new seven-part original limited series from creator Steven Soderbergh, will premiere on Netflix Nov. 22" (emphasis mine) -- has something changed since then?

Correct, Steven is just an EP. Scott Frank is the sole creator.

Thank you! Could you make the above edit directly on the Godless TV Series page?

GL6255 (talk) 21:13, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

On the Godless TV Series Page, why is Jeff Daniels listed last? He is billed third behind Jack O'Connell and Michelle Dockery.

Any way you can update this?

Thank you!

GL6255 (talk) 21:40, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what WP protocol is for credit listing order. The "encyclopedic" method might be alpha-sort (?). You can change it if you want; my firewall restricts YouTube. —2606:A000:4C0C:E200:64E6:D15B:14E5:3BCB (talk) 22:16, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

HELP. I was trying to add a statement on the "GcMAF" page and made a mistake. It will not let me correct my mistake. I need you help. Please restore the page to its original appearance before I attempted to update it. Thanks. My ID is PageMaster. I will go back later and try again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PageMaster (talkcontribs) 22:05, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The warning tag at the top of the Ancestry section of this page should now be removed we believe; all citations are now verified and authentic and the presentation is neutral. Thankyou in advance49.188.128.253 (talk) 22:09, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note The following merged from duplicate section. Eagleash (talk) 12:26, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There is nothing controversial at all in the ancestral section on this page. All citations are very well founded. No issues at all. Please remove warning tag. Thank you2001:8003:4FE9:1B00:7418:F491:EF9A:E098 (talk) 12:12, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel that the issues have been addressed, then you are at liberty to remove the tag, stating your reasons in the edit summary. If the other editor disagrees and restores it, then discuss it with them at the article talk page. This is a content matter and is not really what the HD is for. Also, as has been mentioned before, please don't start multiple sections on the same topic. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 12:26, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
