WP:PROPORTION[edit]

Where can I learn more about WP:PROPORTION? Are there essays or guidelines about it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Benjaminikuta (talkcontribs)

Right, I saw that, but I'm asking about that one section in particular, not just NPOV in general. Benjamin (talk) 06:51, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am newbie and wants to create my personal page[edit]

Hi, I am wondering is there any place that can go through step by step to create wiki page for my personal creativity. I have some knowledge about Tomato Sauce making, Indian Goat Breeds, Soil Types, Growing Dates, Tilapia Fish Farming, Money Making Ides for Students, Hydroponic Green Fodder, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kisancentral (talkcontribs) 05:53, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You seem to have misunderstood the nature of Wikipedia. It's an encyclopedia. It's not a place for personal creativity. -- Hoary (talk) 06:04, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome to list your interests on your user page but this should be related to your work in improving the encyclopaedia, not promoting your creativity. There may be wiki sites other than Wikipedia where your creativity could be advertised. Dbfirs 07:49, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

how to change the article from sandbox to article wizard[edit]

I cant see my article in a search bar. it is showing only in user sandbox. if i do search my article i cant find it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xu liming (talkcontribs) 09:34, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Xu liming. I see that you have now moved the text from your sandbox to draft space, but you haven't included even one single reference. Please read WP:Referencing for beginners. You might also need to read WP:Autobiography if it applies. Your article will not be moved to main space (where Google will find it) until it is referenced and reviewed. In its present form, it will not be accepted. Dbfirs 11:05, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Photo upload[edit]

Hi

I got permission from Carl Doy to upload few photos. But when I uploaded the first one I got a message that it has to be deleted. Please explain. I can forward the email he sent me. cheers Thilal — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thilal (talkcontribs) 10:50, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, this permission is not adequate because we don't know who owns the copyright on the photographs. It might not be Carl Doy, but the photographer who needs to release copyright. Dbfirs 11:07, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
See this page about how to donate Wikipedia materials to do this correctly. It is difficult, but that is because we care about copyright. TigraanClick here to contact me 11:21, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text[edit]

I made some edits to the article on Mendoza, Texas and I need help citing the GNIS code that I referenced. Will you please help me with this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Colman2000 (talkcontribs) 13:58, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You had tried to use a named reference without having defined it. See this correction. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:16, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cluebot[edit]

Hi, I've just updated a celebrity I represent on Wiki and received an e mail from user talk advising "letting you know that one or more of your recent edits to ..... has been undone by an automated computer program called ClueBot NG." I am the celebs exclusive agent and have written the copy myself. How can I make these changes stick and update an inaccurate wiki page? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nnforsyth (talkcontribs) 14:20, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you are editing as the subject's agent, you need to read not only about copyright violation but also about conflict of interest and paid editing. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:24, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note: This has been comprehensively clarified at the OP's talk page by Diannaa. Eagleash (talk) 20:24, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No, only the copyright issue. Nnforsyth, you and your client appear to have a common, but wrong, understanding of Wikipedia: the idea that it is possible to use it as part of somebody's on-line presence. It is not, because an article about your client is absolutely not under your, or your client's control. Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article has said about themselves, and none at all in what they want said about them: it is only interested in what people who have no connection at all with the subject have chosen to publish about the subject. You and your client are strongly discouraged from directly editing the article at all (though you are welcome to make suggestions on the talk page for other editors to decide whether to incorporate); and if you are in anyway paid for this work then you are required by our terms of service to declare this. Please read the links that David Biddulph gave you. --ColinFine (talk) 21:47, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Occasional (talk page watcher): I feel that the two above answers should be combined and pasted almost verbatim to every similar enquiry, of which there seem to be many these days. This is the clearest, most forceful yet neutrally-worded expression of these three basic ideas that I have ever come across on WP (although I am sure many others have said pretty much the same thing countless times). Until new editors understand these fundamental concepts, their experience on WP will sadly tend to be fraught with difficulty. Thank you for encapsulating these ideas in a few concise and utterly understandable sentences. MinorProphet (talk) 17:03, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Question about the star trek discovery article[edit]

Instead of saying guest characters would be ok to say recurring cast?: List_of_Star_Trek:_Discovery_characters#Recurring_characters 96.55.55.84 (talk) 17:05, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That's a question for the talk page of the article. Or you can ask at the WP:Wikiproject Star Trek talk page. uhhlive (talk) 20:47, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

SSRN validation too restrictive[edit]

Hello Helpdesk, I believe the SSRN field validation test is too restrictive. A reference fails if the SSRN number exceeds 3000000. But I have a reference with an SSRN number of 3015424, namely[1]. Can someone check my assessment and tell me where I might file a bug report. Many thanks in advance. RobbieIanMorrison (talk) 17:47, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The choice of 3000000 was an arbitrary one. It needs a change at Module:Citation/CS1/Identifiers, but that page is protected so it needs an admin to change it. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:20, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
more specifically on line 814 on the file. And it is basically protected because it is used in a *lot* of stuff... Pinging the two administrators who have made changes there Trappist the monk and Nihiltres. This is basically Trappist's baby. And I say that in the sense of if it messes up all over the place, Trappist takes care of it. :) Naraht (talk) 20:17, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello all. I just updated my citation on a live page and it works fine. Thanks, as ever, for the prompt response. With best wishes. RobbieIanMorrison (talk) 15:28, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again. Just updated the documentation at SSRN field validation test to record the new upper bound. Cheers. RobbieIanMorrison (talk) 15:41, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures[edit]

I created a wiki page about Raphael Sassower earlier this summer and would like to add a picture of him to it. He gave me pictures of himself for this purpose, however I did not take the pictures myself. So I was wondering what the correct way to go about adding them to his page would be. Does he need to add them to the commons himself? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TrinityParker (talkcontribs) 18:03, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If he owns the copyright, then that would be the easiest option, TrinityParker; but if they are pictures of him, the copyright will probably not be his unless it has been explicitly assigned to him, or they were taken under a contract which assigns it. The copyright owner must explicitly release the image under a suitable licence, which is most easily done if they upload the picture to Commons themselves. Please see donating copyright materials for more information. --ColinFine (talk) 21:53, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Create a page.[edit]

Hi. I want to create a artist page , but but the square in which it is written does not appear and i don't now how to use a lot of the symbols. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Error1996 (talkcontribs) 19:12, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Error1996. There is no simple button to create an article, because creating an article that gets accepted is one of the harder tasks on Wikipedia. If you would like to create an article about somebody, I recommend spending a few months improving existing articles and learning how Wikipedia works first; but in any case, please read Your first article carefully. --ColinFine (talk) 21:55, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you have asked the same question at the Teahouse, where it has been answered. Please don't ask questions in more than one place. Maproom (talk) 21:57, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
