February 10[edit]

Not able to search for my wiki page[edit]

When I search on google or on wiki, it says that the page does not exist... please help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ronkini Gupta (talkcontribs) 04:20, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ronkini Gupta:Just make a new one. --SoMeEcks (talk) 05:29, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The editor had created an autobiography on their user page and were trying to search for it here and on Google as if it was a Wikipedia article. The page has been deleted and they have been warned about autobiography here. Please don't encourage them to recreate it. General Ization Talk 05:35, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date won't work[edit]

I added the birthdate to the infobox on this page, but it wouldn't show up. Can someone fix it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramesty (talkcontribs) 06:29, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ramesty: I fixed it. It turns out that some of the spaces between birth_date and the equals sign were non-breaking spaces as opposed to regular spaces. I'm not sure how that happened. Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 06:49, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

reference "glitch"[edit]

In the youtube section, i put a new reference. after i saved, it didn't show up in the reference section. (I should have three references, not two) —Preceding undated comment added 07:42, 10 February 2018 (UTC) Ramesty (talk) 07:43, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

 Fixed by adding a missing "/" -- John of Reading (talk) 07:52, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wikipedians, Need Help. Can you please check the article Remy Blumenfeld. There is an editor named User:Justlettersandnumbers reverting all my edits, even when the article complies Wikipedia policy. Even if there is problem, the editor can fix it or add the maintenance tag instead of reverting all my edits. Can anyone help me to resolve the issue. Thanks 223.189.17.142 (talk) 09:40, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Justlettersandnumbers last removed your content with the explanation "rm a mass addition of promotional content (promotional both in tone and in intent) – WP:neutrality is one of the core principles of this project" and I have to agree with that assessment: the content you are trying to add is full of weasel words and puffery to promote the subject, has bold claims which are unreferenced, reads more like a CV than a biography, and appears not to have been written in an objective way. If you rework it to correct those issues it stands a much better chance of being accepted - but if you are connected to the subject you would be advised to stand back and let someone else do it. I've semi-protected this for now to avert an edit war, If any of the isp accounts has a conflict of interest, they must disclose it. Any contentious change should be discussed on the talk page, not just replaced. Cannot update picture[edit]

Dear All concerned,

I would like to update picture of one Thailand actress to become a present picture. But, it is keeping loading while submitting changes. Could anyone support this? I would like to change the follow wiki page: https://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B8%E0%B8%A0%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B2_%E0%B8%98%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%8A%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%95 By using this image instead of the current one: Supatsara T

Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kwanphongh (talkcontribs) 17:32, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, this is the English Wikipedia help desk. You want the Thailand Wikipedia help desk. In answer to your question, the infobox image is called File:Supassra T.jpg, the same filename as the image on Commons but a different image, stored locally on the Thailand Wikipedia. nagualdesign 17:40, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
More information here. nagualdesign 17:50, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category intersection tool?[edit]

I am doing a research where I can really benefit from a Wikimedia tool that detects articles that share two or more categories. For example, articles that have both the categories 9th-century mathematicians and Mathematicians from London‎. If there is such a thing, it would be absolutely great if someone could guide me to it --Abbad (talk) 19:25, 10 February 2018 (UTC).[reply]

@Abbad: I've never used it, but it looks like this tool is what you want: WP:CATSCAN RudolfRed (talk) 19:58, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@RudolfRed: Thank you so much, it is perfect! --Abbad (talk) 20:43, 10 February 2018 (UTC).[reply]

Piping categories[edit]

Is it ever appropriate to add a pipe to a category, like [[Category:Presidents by country|South Africa, President]]? I have come across this a couple of time while editing. It seems that the pipe text is just ignored, so I assume that there is no point in having it there. Leschnei (talk) 20:00, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The text after the pipe character is the sort key, see Help:Category#Sorting category pages. --David Biddulph (talk) 20:17, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent - thanks. I won't remove them! Leschnei (talk) 20:25, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How do I cite an article that is in an edited collection of articles[edit]

How do I cite an article that is in a collection of similar articles by various authors? Here is the article I want to cite:

Horne, M.A., Shimony, A., and Zeilinger, A. "Introduction to two-particle interferometry." In: Miller, A.I., editor. Sixty-two years of uncertainty. Plenum Preess, 1990, pp. 113-119.

My problem is that Wiki's citation format doesn't seem to allow for articles that are included in a collection of articles. The format only allows for articles published in journals. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Art Hobson (talkcontribs) 20:49, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think this will do:
<ref name="Horne Shimony Zeilinger 1990 pp. 113–119">{{cite book | last=Horne | first=Michael A. | last2=Shimony | first2=Abner | last3=Zeilinger | first3=Anton | title=NATO ASI Series | chapter=Introduction to Two-Particle Interferometry | publisher=Springer US | publication-place=Boston, MA | year=1990 | isbn=978-1-4684-8773-2 | issn=0258-1221 | doi=10.1007/978-1-4684-8771-8_7 | pages=113–119}}</ref>

@Art Hobson: Does the example at WP:SAYWHERE cover this case? RudolfRed (talk) 21:15, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
But this may be better :-)

Content Does it have to be current or past[edit]

Can you add things to Wikipedia that will be upcoming OR is it only for current or post events? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:8B26:CD40:BD27:6CA2:ECD:3171 (talk) 21:08, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Some future events are allowed, if there is coverage of them in reliable sources. For example, we have an article on the 2024_Summer_Olympics. RudolfRed (talk) 21:17, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
forgot to mention, there is guidance at WP:TOOSOON and WP:CRYSTAL, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. RudolfRed (talk) 21:18, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
