Rotating images[edit]

Hello, I uploaded an image to use in an article I am writing (the Evangelical Heritage Version), however when I uploaded it, it was sideways. I also uploaded another copy of the image (from a different camera, because I wasn't sure which would be better for quality, and I thought that the second one would have the correct orientation). I would appreciate it if someone would rotate one of them (whichever you think would be a better image), because I won't be able to for a few days. You can find the images here and here. Thanks! Jap2.0 (talk) 02:34, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I uploaded a new version at File:Evangelical Heritage Version, New Testament and Psalms.jpg. Note that I have also reduced the size. Non-free images should be below 0.1 megapixels. The other image will probably be deleted, since it will not be used. nagualdesign 02:46, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks a lot! Jap2.0 (talk) 03:02, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. I also placed the image in the infobox at Evangelical Heritage Version. As an aside, you may find MOS:LINK useful. Happy editing! nagualdesign 03:12, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Editing while logged out[edit]

While there doesn't seem to be anything in the guidelines to prevent users from editing while logged out (WP:LOGGEDOUT says it's "not usually an egregious issue"), what are the rules on seemingly nice administrators signing out then getting all arsey with other users, Jekyll and Hyde style? And what sort of efforts can be made to combat this kind of behaviour, if necessary? As a non-admin I have only limited tools and unconfirmed suspicions, and I'm not sure if it's fair to even suggest a connection (I hesitated for several hours before deciding to post this), but if my suspicions turn out to be correct then I think it's only right that I report it. nagualdesign 02:36, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia was mostly written by IP editors. I hope you will come to understand; please read Wikipedia:IPs are human too. Anons are utterly vital to the health of the project.
There is nothing inherently wrong with anon editing. But if you think someone is abusing that - logging out to deceive - report them at WP:SPI. Especially if it's an admin. 86.20.193.222 (talk) 03:04, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm aware that IP editors are human and provide a valuable contribution to the project (though I reject the claim that Wikipedia was mostly written by IP editors). This has nothing to do with that, nor does it have anything to do with sock puppetry, and WP:SPI requires clear evidence. nagualdesign 03:22, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You reject a true claim then. You should do some research before making such incredibly wrong statements. Most of the edits to this project have been, and still are, made by anonymous IPs. As for your suspicions. This is certainly not the place to be casting such aspersions. Even if you don't name names. If you have proof of such things you can contact ArbCom. It is HIGHLY recommended that you do not take such a step with only vague suspicions. --Majora (talk) 03:31, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
From Wikipedia:IPs are human too
Calm down. First, I was expressing an opinion based on my own experience, and making such "incredibly wrong statements" isn't a big deal. As to the point of this, I didn't come here to cast aspersions, I came here seeking help. And as a non-admin it isn't within my power to prove anything. I just want to know whether it's worth raising a flag, and how I might do that. nagualdesign 03:37, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm perfectly calm. Reading emotions into words on a screen doesn't really work well. And again, if you have proof of such things WP:ARBCOM is where you would go. --Majora (talk) 03:41, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Extrapolating 248 edits to the entire project over 15+ years is both misleading and disingenuous. Nice, not pulling over the entire caption by the way. But IP/Registered editor edits was never really the purpose of this thread was it? Your question has been answered. --Majora (talk) 03:46, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not really interested in discussing who does the most legwork here, to be honest. nagualdesign 03:48, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) First, it's not allowed to report an administrator to SPI. There are instruction at SPI telling you what to do if you want to report an administrator. Second, I'd like to see some actual statistics about how many edits are - or have been - made by IPs vs. registered accounts. Even if such stats exist, what's most important is how many of the edits by IPs have been constructive vs. how many by registered accounts. That would require a helluva lot more work because it would require more than the collection of numbers but someone making what can be a subjective determination. As an aside, a named account can be just as anonymous as an IP; however, they are more accountable.--Bbb23 (talk) 03:43, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's kind of helpful. So, moving away from whether IP editors do more or less work than signed-in users, where can I report this? And if you don't think I should then please let me know. Cheers. nagualdesign 03:47, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you suspect sock puppetry by an administrator, or if you need to submit off-wiki evidence for some other reason, you must email the CheckUser team to open an investigation. Private information, emails, logs, and other sensitive evidence must not be posted on Wikipedia. All evidence related to a sockpuppet investigation must otherwise be posted on the designated page.

86.20.193.222 (talk) 05:07, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As I've already said, this doesn't have anything to do with sock puppetry. Anyway, I think I'll just leave it there for the time being as I suspect that it'll probably be more trouble than it's worth. nagualdesign 05:59, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Signing out and posting as an IP in the same area is a type of socking.86.20.193.222 (talk) 06:15, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know it is. This isn't that. nagualdesign 06:21, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah - your original post actually mentioned "administrators signing out then getting all arsey with other users". Are we now on a different tack? 86.20.193.222 (talk) 07:07, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No. If an admin is nice and helpful when signed it (Dr Jekyll) then, when signed out, goes around being less than civil (Mr Hyde) without committing sock puppetry, I think that's problematic. One might assume that when this person doesn't feel like being civil he/she chooses not to sign in, as if that gives them a license to act all arsey because there will be no real repercussions. Anyhoo, like I said, I'm not going to push this any further. The inanity of WP:BOOMERANG, which fails to differentiate between good faith reporting and deliberate timewasting, leaves me reluctant to bother. nagualdesign 07:25, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If they're editing in the same areas, that's sock puppetry. If they're not, who cares.
If you're worried about your own reputation, contact a CU/OS via email. If we can't trust them, then we're all fucked.
But personally, I do trust CU/OS'ers. 86.20.193.222 (talk) 07:38, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
To answer a narrow question here, a user who does good edits while logged in and does bad edits while logged out is violating the sockpuppetry policy, regardless of if they're editing in the same area or not. See WP:GHBH. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:45, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • One alternative to the method in the SPI instructions is to e-mail ArbCom.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:13, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's already been suggested, but I didn't think SPI applied until Ivan pointed out GHBH. Still, I have no concrete evidence anyway, to be fair. nagualdesign 20:42, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Layout weirdness[edit]

I'm an experienced editor, more accustomed to helping others than asking for help... but for the life of me I cannot figure out why the article Bangladeshi rock keeps all the section headers in order, but the body of the section "Popular bands of Bangladesh" appears underneath "References". I tried adding a {{clear}} tag on the end of the section, to no avail. What is causing this? ~Anachronist (talk) 03:44, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed it. The table wasn't closed properly. I changed |-} to |} and it looks fine now. nagualdesign 03:56, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. I missed the presence of one tiny hyphen. Thanks. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:27, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It was pretty average-sized as hyphens go. nagualdesign 07:37, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You'll need to ask the question again in English, but if you are trying to write an article about your company the short answer is "No", but the long answer is at WP:Conflict of interest and WP:Paid editing (the latter including mandatory requirements). --David Biddulph (talk) 09:52, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Spelling and Location of my Town[edit]

Address: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abi,_Cross_River#

Wrong Title: Abi, Cross River

Right Title: Abbi, Uzo-Uwani

While going through Google Map, I observed that my TOWN (Abbi) was misspelt. "Abi" was used in place of "Abbi" missing a "B". Also, the location it is located at is not Cross River (which is a state in Nigeria) but UZO-UWANI (a Local Government Area in ENUGU STATE). This wrong spelling and location has made it impossible to rightly locate some necessary things in my Town. I appreciate if the title can be changed from "Abi, Cross River" to "Abbi, Uzo-Uwani" which is a Town. Thank you.

These appear to be two separate towns, about 130km apart as the crow flies, or 215km by road. Abi, Cross River is about 130km ESE of Onitsha, whilst Abbi, Uzo-Uwani (which Google maps spells with just one b) is about 60km NNE of Onitsha. - Arjayay (talk) 14:09, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The article was about Abi, Cross River until 16 July 2017, when someone hi-jacked the article by over-writing the content to cover Abbi, Uzo-Uwani. I have reverted to the version before it was over-written. An article about Abbi, Uzo-Uwani needs to be started from new. - Arjayay (talk) 14:18, 19 January 2018 (UTC)‎[reply]
@Arjayay: instead of writing the article from new, we can history-split the existing article. See the history in a few minutes. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:26, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, the two towns now have separate articles: see Abi, Cross River and Abi, Uzo-Uwani. If Abbi is a common spelling of the name, it would be proper to create redirects at Abbi, Cross River and Abbi, Uzo-Uwani. Let us know if you need help with that. What's up with wikibuff? That is, http://www.wikibuff.info/ ? It looks like wikipedia but redirects to advertisements.[edit]

What's up with wikibuff? That is, http://www.wikibuff.info/ ? It looks like wikipedia but on some clicks it redirects to advertisements. Is anyone in wikipedia "management" aware of this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.29.90.167 (talk) 13:26, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

So it does! That's really wierd. Even the "articles" still have their history- it's like the whole database has been lifted! >SerialNumber54129...speculates 13:30, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Saving Drafts[edit]

Is there a way that I can save a draft?

Thanks Ellie — Preceding unsigned comment added by Muzungusisters (talkcontribs) 16:29, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Muzungusisters: Hello,if you have created a page in draftspace (I.e. the page name is something like Draft:Article name) then if you click 'publish' at the bottom of the draft this will save it. Do not worry that it will publish it to the encyclopedia, the publish button used to read 'save' but was changed recently which has caused some confusion. Good luck. Come back here if you need more help. Eagleash (talk) 19:48, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

How do I change a logo on a football club page to the correct one? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Milliekinloch (talkcontribs) 16:33, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It might help if you told us which football club and what you think the logo ought to be, but essentially you edit the page and where it says File:Rovers United FC logo.png (or whatever) you change it to File:Rovers United FC new logo.png (or whatever), assuming that the new logo is available on Commons (Try searching). nagualdesign 19:51, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
...Oh wait, I see. Gimme a few minutes and I can sort that out for you. nagualdesign 19:54, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thar she blows. I cleaned up the logo and edited the markup. We don't use |thumb in infoboxes. Interesting how they've gone from what looked like a kangaroo to a rampant horse to a rampant.. some sort of big cat? They'll be changing it to a dragon next. nagualdesign 20:12, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Um, that's a non-free image. It'll get deleted from Commons. I'll move it to enwiki before that happens. Black Kite (talk) 23:00, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've only just spotted this. Thanks, Black Kite. nagualdesign 00:32, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bean to Bar Chocolate Manufacturers[edit]

Would a bean to bar chocolate manufacturing company in Mishawaka, Indiana be able to be added to this list? They craft their own chocolates and sell via their web site and on Amazon. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tme123 (talkcontribs) 18:23, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Time123: If the company passes Wikipedia's rather stringent rules on notability and has sufficient in-depth coverage in independent reliable sources (see WP:GNG) then the company may qualify for an article. Please note that Wikipedia is not a place to advertise products etc. nor is it a directory. Eagleash (talk) 19:41, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

about references[edit]

Hi! Could you please tell me if we need to repeat the references in the article or if we mentioned a reference once it is enough?)Eugenialiutaya (talk) 21:53, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Eugenialiutaya: Once is not enough, if there are multiple statements that need the reference. Check out WP:REFB for guidance. RudolfRed (talk) 22:56, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • When you do use the same reference more than once, you can (and usually should) tell the system to point both locations in the article to the same reference in the reflist. See the section on that same page, at WP:REFB#Same_reference_used_more_than_once. -Arch dude (talk) 01:49, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

clayton-le-moors lancashire[edit]

dear sir.

I attended MOUNT PLEASANT SCHOOL in Clayton between 1948 to 1958. One of the pupils was called JACK SIMMONS he went on to be o professional cricketer. WHEN HE RETIRED HE WAS MENTION IN THE PAPERS. He is the only person from our school to get mentioned and i think he has earned a place be mentioned in your in your history of Clayton. He is as good as the ones you have mentioned i think he is worth more then those .

Regards,

John Brooke retired. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JOHN BROOKE (talkcontribs) 22:02, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings from Earby! Thanks for your input. As you can see, Jack Simmons is already mentioned at the top of Clayton-le-Moors#Notable people, so you're right on the money there, John. Although he's perhaps more notable for being a professional cricket player and an MBE than being mentioned in the local paper! nagualdesign 22:07, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NBC New Graphics For Super Bowl LII[edit]

I looked Up Adweek.com That NBC Sports Will Debut a New Graphics Package During Super Bowl LII. Which Will likely Include A New Score Bug. And does that mean it will likely Spread Into Other NBC And NBCSN Productions like they done in the past like the NHL coverage, Rugby coverage, Triple Crown Horse Racing, French Open, Priemer League Soccer, NASCAR racing coverage, Next Year's U.S. Army All American Football, Figure Skating Coverage, Skiing Coverage, Action Sports, Detriot Auto Show, College Football on NBCSN, College Basketball on NBCSN, Norte Dame Football, And even on NBC Sunday Night Football and many other NBC Sports and NBCSN Productions. And It Will Likely Be On the RSN's in the Fall If That is indeed True. 68.102.39.189 (talk) 23:27, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That's nice but has nothing to do with the Help Desk. Do you have an actual question? NZFC(talk) 23:35, 19 January 2018 (UTC) Yes Will The New Graphics Package On NBC Spread it into other NBC And NBCSN Productions Besides the Super Bowl LII is it true. 68.102.39.189 (talk) 02:58, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Are you the guy from back when and the other day? Strange how Iggy Azalea gets the ad this time around and Papa John's doesn't. InedibleHulk (talk) 00:24, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The frozen food Twitter beef has been reignited, if that's what you're asking. InedibleHulk (talk) 00:46, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
All NBC affiliates owned by Tegna will look a bit different in 2018, news and weather-wise. Hearst Television's WESH is going a bit straighter in Orlando, home of this year's Pro Bowl on ABC. No clue what's going on with NBCSN. Probably nothing. InedibleHulk (talk) 03:43, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your'e Wrong NBCSN Will likely use the new Graphics after super bowl LII on NBC and spread into other NBC And NBCSN productions. if I'm right. 68.102.39.189 (talk) 04:09, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You may be wrong, for all I know, but you may be right. I said I had no clue, I'll take your word for it. Do they look better than the old graphics? That's a pretty huge factor. This really isn't the place for wondering about the future, though, it's just for help on using Wikipedia. Nice seeing you again, in any case. InedibleHulk (talk) 04:25, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
