November 9[edit]

New right side bar on pages[edit]

I'm getting this new sidebar on the right side of certain pages. I can't even figure out why it appears sometimes and not others. The number of large icons in the sidebar also seems to vary. I see it at User:Makeanaccount9 but don't see it at User:Bbb23. Is this "feature" described somewhere? How do I remove it? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:02, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see it on either page. Abelmoschus Esculentus 15:04, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Lucky me. --Bbb23 (talk) 15:11, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Is it Wikipedia:Page Curation/Help#Curation Toolbar? If not then please give a description of the content. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:12, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is. I saw it in Test Wiki too. Abelmoschus Esculentus 15:14, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Does it look like this? Abelmoschus Esculentus 15:17, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Bbb23, Enable "Disable the page curation toolbar" in the gadgets section of preferences. Galobtter (pingó mió) 15:32, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That worked, thanks everyone. When was it implemented and why does it (apparently) come enabled as the default?--Bbb23 (talk) 15:46, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Bbb23, Wikipedia:Page Curation/Help#When was this released? mentions September 2012 as the implementation month. I don't know the answer to your query on why does it apparently come enabled by default (my guess is perhaps because you are an administrator). Lourdes 18:08, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's puzzling. I never saw it until very recently.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:10, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My wild guess Bbb23 would be that you might have recently, accidentally clicked on 'Curation Toolbar' or 'Curate this article' in the 'Toolbox' section of the left sidebar. Lourdes 18:14, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm never that wild.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:17, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

RFA[edit]

Hi, I recently created an RFA. I received no opposition, and the timeline has passed, but I don't think anything has changed. Did I do something wrong? Thank you.WikiHogan654 (talk) 22:02, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WikiHogan654 I think it is not formatted correctly, as it was not seen by anyone. You aren't likely to succeed at the RFA; however, you don't need to be an admin to edit and create articles.331dot (talk) 22:11, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
331dot Ok, thank you. What do I need to change to format it correctly?WikiHogan654 (talk) 22:14, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not exactly sure what you did wrong, but you would need to follow the instructions at WP:RFA/N. As I said however, I doubt very much that any RFA you make would be successful and I strongly urge you to not attempt to do so at this time. As I indicated, you don't need to be an admin to do what you indicate on your RFA attempt that you want to do. 331dot (talk) 22:18, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There were at least two problems. First, the {{subst}} somehow didn't work correctly, you may need to re-create the page from the template. Second, you didn't transclude the RFA on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. Finally, I have to agree with 331dot; you will almost certainly get the RFA WP:SNOW closed at 0 support / 10 oppose if you run; do you really want 10 more people to tell you that you're not going to become an admin right now? power~enwiki (π, ν) 22:27, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

watchlist and Administrators Noticeboard[edit]

Hello. How do I watch just one section of the Administrators' Noticeboard (instead of being notified about any revisions on the whole noticeboard)? Thanks, 1292simon (talk) 22:23, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe there is a way to do that. 331dot (talk) 22:25, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks 331dot. I best not shoot the messenger, but that is surely, ahem... an "area for improvement"! Cheers, 1292simon (talk) 03:00, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@1292simon: see m:Community Wishlist Survey 2019/Watchlists#Make individual threads watchable. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 12:58, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@NinjaRobotPirate:, that would be great. Fingers crossed the proposal happens sometime! 1292simon (talk) 06:15, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting article from MIT about Wikipedia[edit]

I wanted to share this with the help desk and teahouse.
