I was going to donate[edit]

Two words/one name: Donna Strickland — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.29.87.80 (talk) 03:15, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a question relating to how to edit Wikipedia? Eagleash (talk) 03:41, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I assume that the OP is referring to the fact that an article on Donna Strickland was rejected before she won a Nobel prize. There is now a debate in the article's talk page, and an edit war in the article itself, about whether this rejection should be mentioned in the article. Maproom (talk) 06:44, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had some similar media comments. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:30, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You won't find this in all the media commentary, but this year's Nobel Prizewinner in Chemistry, who is male, also had no article before the prize was announced ([1]). Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 12:47, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello, IP editor. I assume from your comments that you regret that worthy women (a scientist, in that case) are not featured as prominently as they deserve in Wikipedia. That sentiment is actually shared by a majority of Wikipedians; see that page about systemic bias for instance. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is a volunteer effort, so it is not always up to the standards we wish it should have. I would encourage you to join us to correct that: read Wikipedia:Your first article, write and submit a biographical article via the articles for creation process. The IP editor (and others who want to see more articles about women) might want to join Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red. Project participants are working toward that goal. Eddie Blick (talk) 01:04, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg[edit]

Hello there Captain Raju,

My name is Savo Ceprnich and I am the Marketing Manager of the Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_Internationale_Schule_Johannesburg)

It was me who was trying to make changes to the page yesterday, I updated the last sentence and I am trying to change the school logo because the current one is very old.

Would you be able to help in this regard? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Savo Ceprnich (talkcontribs) 05:29, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging CAPTAIN RAJU so you can take a look at this. MarnetteD|Talk 05:33, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Savo Ceprnich: Your edit had a technical problem: it added two copies of our generic "example" picture to the top of the page, and therefore looked like vandalism. However, you have another problem: you are what we call a "paid editor", so you must declare this status to comply with the terms of use of the Wikipedia web site: see WP:PAID. It's perfectly acceptable to be a paid editor, but you are required to comply with our conflict of interest policy: see WP:COI. This means you should not edit that article directly, but should instead suggest changes on its talk page at talk:Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg. This is doubly useful in this case since another more experienced editor will then make the actual change. -Arch dude (talk) 05:47, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fail to submit the article[edit]

Hi, I submitted my article 22 days ago. But it's still waiting for review. May I know if the submission is failed or any status for the article. Here is the link, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Tailor-M Whljc (talk) 06:44, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you missed what it says in the brown box on your draft:
"Review waiting, please be patient.
This may take more than two months, since drafts are reviewed in no specific order. There are 3990 pending submissions waiting for review."?
--David Biddulph (talk) 06:52, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is also worth noting that you are relying on reviewers who can read the language in which you have provided 4 of your references. That will presumably be only a minority of the reviewer community. --David Biddulph (talk) 07:00, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unpublished page for over 3 months[edit]

Can someone help me with a page that remains a draft and unpublished for over three months? Draft:Remember Baghdad (Documentary film) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scribbler2018 (talkcontribs) 09:33, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Scribbler2018: As indicated in the yellow box on your draft, there are almost 4000 drafts waiting for review. As reviews are done by volunteer editors, it will take some time. Please be patient. 331dot (talk) 09:40, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You'll see the age profile of the draft queue at Category:AfC pending submissions by age. One thing which would make life easier for potential reviewers (and therefore might accelerate the process) would be if you were to convert the refs from bare urls to more comprehensively defined citations. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:46, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Scribbler2018: Following the above advice by David Biddulph I've converted one bare URL into a templated {{cite web}} reference. You can see it here: Special:Diff/862443678. --CiaPan (talk) 13:12, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Negative aspect about CIF has been written over Wikipedia[edit]

LinK: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Childline_India

A very negative aspect about CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) is covered under Right to Information Act and off late various issues of non-performance & lack of quality service through its implementing partners have emerged in various parts of the country. Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India is reviewing the status of CIF of being a "Mother NGO" under Integrated Child Protection Scheme. Request you to remove the negative statement about the CHILDLINE India Foundation because it the information is not correct for any information u can mail us on <email address redacted>

Regards CHILDLINE India Foundation — Preceding unsigned comment added by CHILDLINE1098 (talkcontribs) 09:43, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The addition was unsourced, and has therefore been reverted. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:55, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Editing the Infobox gene[edit]

Hi I am trying to figure out how to edit the infobox gene for a protein (i.e. add a link to the structure on the protein data bank (PDB) or update the PDB link/picture for another one). Is there a way to edit it using the visual editor?

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jollyclause (talkcontribs) 12:35, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article issues[edit]

The page Anupam Sharma has multiple issues such as unclear citation, tone and promotional working. I don't understand how to fix this. Please help out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiif18 (talkcontribs) 12:42, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Wikiif18: describe the problems in a new section on the article's talk page at talk:Anupam Sharma. If you can find better references, add them there also. You can then add one or more notices at the top of the article itself: see Wikipedia:Template messages, but I personally don't like those things and I would wait a few days after asking for improvements on the talk page. -Arch dude (talk) 16:18, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Series table[edit]

Hi, I've added a series table to So Awkward however the table's appearing under the external links,
I'm assuming the table's missing codes somewhere but I'm too tired to figure out where so was wondering if someone could help,
Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 13:43, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Davey2010: That's right, the end-of-table marker was missing. Fixed now. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:50, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Brilliant thanks John of Reading much appreciated, I knew it was something stupidly simple!, This is what 4 & a half hours sleep does to you!, Anyway thanks again. –Davey2010Talk 14:01, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This article Prithvi Shaw has been recently edited numerous times by IPs who have vandalised it. Can someone please restore the version before the IPs started vandalizing. I am unable to do it myself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.151.88.152 (talk) 14:51, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can't edit content[edit]

When I go to edit a page, it will only allow me to edit the source and not edit the actual page. I have edited a few pages where it showed "edit" at the top and beside the paragraphs but now it only lets me edit the source. Help! (I have to edit incomplete pages for school) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stevensholly (talkcontribs) 15:15, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do you want to use Wikipedia:Visual editor? Ruslik_Zero 17:48, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Stevensholly: Please link an example page. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:00, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I was able to figure it out, must have been a glitch! Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stevensholly (talkcontribs) 18:35, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Page removed[edit]

Hello. I would like to have my wiki page removed. This is the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_O%27Leary_(priest) The author is a former student who did this as a class assignment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.99.45.34 (talk) 16:16, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted it as A7 - no credible information about importance. He is just a priest. Ruslik_Zero 17:46, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Translating source(s) from Korean[edit]

Greetings, is there a person or place where one can ask for a source to be translated? To whit, they are these sources down here. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:05, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: there is a list: Wikipedia:Translators available. However, a full-up translation effort may be more than you need. It may be less effort for a volunteer translator to simply verify that a fact is properly cited to the reference. -Arch dude (talk) 20:15, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Arch dude: Seems like you are suggesting that I should work through Google Translate and then ask a native Korean speaker to check that the resulting facts are accurately given. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:38, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: after re-reading your question, I now wonder what it has to do with using or editing the English Wikipedia. -Arch dude (talk) 21:06, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Arch dude: I was considering to write an article on Lomilik (a seamount) and to get something complete I need these Korean articles. JoJo Eumerus mobile (talk) 21:12, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: OK, that's a translation FROM Korean INTO English, not the other way around as stated in your header. -Arch dude (talk) 22:19, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Whopla. Mended that. JoJo Eumerus mobile (talk) 22:21, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Permission to use content[edit]

I am writing an ebook on Reason, Belief, Religion and Science and would like to (1)use exact copy of paragraph on Balinese Mythology from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balinese_mythology.

and (2) I would like to use the colored Life timeline chart from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolutionary_history_of_life Of course I would reference/credit Wikipedia with exact URL of the content.

If O.K. please let me know. Thanks for all you do. 2602:306:C585:F920:7530:7CD0:DE20:DF14 (talk) 22:25, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
