February 20[edit]

Refs 4 , 5 and 6 are all the same - should they be placed differently in the ref. section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.132.68.1 (talk) 01:36, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Done I have combined the refs. Eagleash (talk) 02:33, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

History merge[edit]

On Nomiki Konst I need some admin help, and the admin noticeboard—let alone ANI—is far too intimidating to ask there: The page was deleted in 2017 and recently recreated, maybe from scratch, or from an external copy of the old content. The various "history merge" pages only address "cut and paste" cases, not this. Could somebody please check the deleted page, and if there is anything not yet covered on the new article, merge it into the current article? –84.46.52.151 (talk) 03:27, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ambiguous Redirect[edit]

Lost here as a recently created article is redirected to someway related one but both serve different purpose. It's like redirecting Donald Trump to Current President of U.S.A. Both stands true but they stands apart. Same happened here Omkar Rai is an individual and STPI is an organisation. Both are different so I don;t think a redirect is required however link should be established on both. Any insight if this assumption is correct and how to retrieve original article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omkar_Rai. RufinaSmith (talk) 05:42, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There are no redirects to Omkar Rai, click on What links here and there on "redirects only". The same procedure for Software Technology Parks of India yields What links here for STPI etc. as it should, what is your problem? –84.46.52.151 (talk) 06:59, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
At the time of the post, Omkar Rai was redirected to Software Technology Parks of India. @RufinaSmith: If people don't have their own article then it's common to redirect them to the subject they are best known for, or the article which gives the most information about them. A redirect target can be changed later. I see you have figured out how to revert Omkar Rai to the article you created but that it's currently discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Omkar Rai. Linking to page ID[edit]

Hi all! I was just wondering if there's an easy way to (1) get and (2) link to a page's revision permalink (other than copying and pasting a URL and manually getting the revision ID myself)? I'm trying to link them so that the relevant discussion etc. can be linked either on a page or when I refer to something in an edit summary, but the process is so time consuming I often just give up. Thanks in advance for your help! --Tom (LT) (talk) 08:16, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If I right-click (with open in new tab) on "Permalink" in the left sidebar I get a new tab with URL
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Help_desk&oldid=941726368
That's not too hard for a Special:Permalink/941726368#Linking_to_page_ID. The similar procedure to get a Special:Diff/941726368/941729275 from an edit history diff is hard, the oldid at the end comes first, the newer ID has to be the last, if you want left (old) to right (new). If you are on mobile please ignore me.84.46.52.151 (talk) 08:42, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I use this userscript for permalinks and diffs, and this script for permalinking to a discussion. – Thjarkur (talk) 10:47, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can you object a deletion after addressing the specific changes that led to the admin to place the tag on the article.[edit]

If you are a creator of a certain page and it has been nominated for deletion. Once you have addressed the specific concerns on the page are you allowed as the creator of the page to object the decision by removing the PROD tag or other editors are the one to perform this. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Milliede' (talkcontribs) 10:05, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Milliede' Anyone can remove a PROD for almost any reason; that does not prevent someone from bringing it to an Articles for Deletion discussion, though. PRODs are meant for completely uncontroversial deletions- even the author objecting is enough to stop one. 331dot (talk) 10:08, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
... but if you remove a PROD it is wise to explain your reasoning, either in an edit summary or on the article talk page, see WP:DEPROD. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:27, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How can I publish my translation of an existing page on the Dutch Wikipedia: Ann Van Sevenant Thank you David Gullentops David Gullentops (talk) 12:22, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved it to Draft:Ann Van Sevenant and added a "Submit" button to the article, which you can click to submit it for review with Articles for Creation. However, the article needs inline citations that verify the content, and it either needs to show better how she passes WP:NPROF or cite more sources that show she has gotten significant coverage from secondary sources. It's not quite clear from a glance what she is most notable for. – Thjarkur (talk) 14:34, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Another editor has moved your draft from your user page to draft namespace. You should not, however, submit it for AFC review until you have provided references to published reliable sources independent of the subject. See WP:Notability and WP:Notability (people), and the advice at WP:Your first article. Note that you may find that the requirements are stricter here than at nlwiki. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:35, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

question re vandal rollback in page history[edit]

hi. where is the setting in preferences, to turn on or turn off the feature allowing a user to roll back vandalism? right now, I'd like to turn this feature off, to avoid pressing it by accident. I appreciate it. please ping me when you reply. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 14:19, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Sm8900: It's not in preferences, you need to apply for the user right at WP:PERM/R - FlightTime (open channel) 14:22, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
oh ok. well, that is good to know. I will take a look. that is very helpful. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 14:24, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Sm8900: Rather than disabling rollback, you may want to require confirmation, so that you don't rollback accidentally with a single misclick. It's at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:26, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)Preferences → Gadgets → Twinkle. To just avoid pressing it by accident, go to Wikipedia:Twinkle/Preferences → Provide a confirmation message before reverting. – Thjarkur (talk) 14:26, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
oh ok, that's great to know. I appreciate the help. that'll do nicely. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 14:31, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your post on Garnett Mimms. I don’t understand how he is listed as having grown up in Philadelphia, when he attended Byrd Prillerman High School in Amigo, WV with my father and his brothers sometimes in the late 40s to early 50s. I myself am one of the youngest living survivors of African-Americans who attended that school. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:49:4102:9FA0:FD8A:E50D:AC4F:DCF5 (talk) 17:32, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You can make a note at the article's talk page. It can be good to check what secondary sources say. – Thjarkur (talk) 17:49, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Reference [2] says "mostly raised in Philadelphia". --ColinFine (talk) 17:51, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Filter a user's change[edit]

Is there a way to filter a user's changes, e.g. by category or name of a page? ◄ Sebastian 20:56, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SebastianHelm: Not on wiki afaik but there this XTool for finding edits to a category and this tool to find edits by a certain user to a page (the latter can be accessed using the "External tools" row on any page's history). Regards SoWhy 08:21, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks! ◄ Sebastian 09:43, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

COI editor seeking formatting assistance[edit]

I am a COI Editor endeavoring to remove a Tag "This section (Early Life and Education) does not cite any sources" from my Wiki entry https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neal_Ashkanasy. To accomplish this I would like the Wiki editor (Spintendo) to cite my profile in Who's Who in Australia (which is an independent source for the required information). The editor has advised me that "edit requests such as yours are generally expected to have this formatting done before the request is submitted for review" and advised me to contact the Helpdesk to find out how I might do this. Can you please advise me accordingly?

Thanks you in anticipation Neal Ashkanasy Nealash (talk) 23:49, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Try reading Help:Referencing for beginners. --David Biddulph (talk) 01:46, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nealash, you can also try User:Nick Moyes/Easier Referencing for Beginners, I find it a bit easier to follow. Schazjmd (talk) 01:55, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
