A question about WP:NOINDEX

In the article about the noindex tag, it states that it will have no effect on articles over 90 days old. But it also says that articles with speedy deletion tags will be noindexed, which makes perfect sense since these articles might have some disruptive information in them that shouldn't be seen. But then does this apply to articles over 90 days? RedPanda25 00:37, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

Uploading Photo

I'd like to upload a photograph of Sparkle Moore to her Wikipedia article. The picture was taken in approximately 1956 and is widely available on the internet in different biographies of her and such. (Pinterest, Youtube, Reddit, the BlueisKewl blog, etc.) I can find no photographer listed. Can I proceed to upload it? Is there something further I can to to upload it? Or am I barred from uploading it?

@Kfraserryan: No, unless you can show that it its copyright has expired. You cannot upload it under "fair use" because our criteria for this are very strict, and Sparkle Moore is still alive. showing that the copyright is expired is a mess, and I do not know how to do it for this picture. In the US, anything from before 1924 is copyright-expired, and some stuff after that that was formally copyrighted and whose formal copyright was not renewed. But most stuff is presumed to be copyrighted. Sorry. Copyright law is a disaster, but we do our best to follow the law. -Arch dude (talk) 01:47, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

New York Times articles (pre 1970's)

Hello! I am doing research on a topic that is discussed in older New York Times articles (pre 1970's). I can see some of the preview text and the date, but I cannot see the author's name. It seems that only current subscribers can see the author's name. I understand that many older articles do not have bylines. Are there editors who are NYT subscribers that can look up to see if there is author information? This must be a frequent problem. The Times is such a valuable resource for citation. Thank you! Reliable sources

Hi I posted an article recently but it has been moved to draft for these reasons: "does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources". How do I get the right sources? My sources are primarily from websites ad published articles.

Hello, Tims178. Start by removing all the links to Apple music and to soundcloud: It is alsmot never appropriate to reference the subject's own work, and it is almost never appropriate to link to a commercial site. Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject has said, done, or published except insofar as independent people have published about them. The article should be almost entirely based on independent writing about DJ Sly, not on their own works or words. Have a look at WP:CSMN. --ColinFine (talk) 14:56, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

I created a article named Md Perwez Siddiqui with citation of all the sources of newspaper as well as the link of books also provided in this article. And also Mr Md Perwez Siddiqui is a notable person in India as he is doing politics and also demand the reservation for Muslims of Bihar in India. and I think his name should be on Wikipedia as the people know the facts about him and know about his life history. Gross tons convert template

In Robert Logan (naval architect) I would like to use gross tons template for a GA review. I don't understand how to use it. Can an expert use this convert template where it says 2,775 gross tons . Thanks for the help.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:06, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

Gross tonnage is not convertible. It refers to the internal volume of a ship; it is not a unit of mass.

I am an author and I have (I thought) uploaded a page about myself - but though I can see it on my contributions section - i cannot find it on wikipedia. I've neer done this before and I may have done it incorrectly - I did not add a link to my book See Glass as I was not sure if you were allowed to or not and I did not wish to violate the rules? I think my page should be called Ido Graf

Please can someone help me?

It is not a Wikipedia article, which would tell the general readership about you as a notable author if you met our notability requirements (WP:NAUTHOR). @David Cary Hart: which article are you talking about? If you meant to ask how to change the infobox on the right side of the article, I recommend thaat you use the visual editor for this and then look at the history to see what the visual editor changed. If you want to experiment with a particular article's infobox, I recommed that you use the sandbox. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:09, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

Arthur Miles

Hello. Can one of you help me, please! I made and edited an article about painter Arthur Miles. My first attempt at the sandbox disappeared (Arthur H Miles), so I tried again with Arthur Henry Miles RI 1905-1987. (or it could have been simply Arthur Miles RI and dates)

I wrote and edited a full article, saw it in sandbox, checked and pressed send for review. Today, I cannot get far into my page - I wanted to upload pictures. There was a message I didn't understand and I can't find my article anywhere. I'm new to this ... and I'm also old! Hoping someone from your amazing expert people can help me!Thanks in advance. Gwaelodian Your draft is still there, it's at Draft:Arthur H. Miles. It was moved to include the middle initial because there is already an article about a different Arthur Miles. This is called disambiguation. That's probably what the message you didn't understand was trying to tell you - where to find the draft. You have submitted your draft for review, and it is currently waiting in a very long line for someone to come along and review it. That can take a couple months. In the mean time, I recommend you focus your efforts on finding and citing reliable sources, such as books that discuss his art, rather than the blogs currently cited as sources. As for uploading pictures, if they are photos you have taken yourself and you are willing to release them under Wikipedia's copyright license, you can upload them to Wikimedia Commons now, however, if the photos were taken by someone else and you do not own the copyright to them, they would be considered fair use and must be uploaded directly to Wikipedia and should not be uploaded until after the article is approved and moved out of draft space. I'll leave a message on your talk page with some helpful links. @Gwaelodian: an image may be uploaded under "fair use" only if it meets our very stringent fair-use policy, so finding or creating an image that can be released under a valid copyright license is preferable. -Arch dude (talk) 17:34, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

@Gwaelodian: If the pictures you want to upload are faithful renderings of his paintings (rather than say a photographic portrait of the artist), the copyright belongs to Miles' heir(s) rather than to the photographer. In this case an important part of a non-free use rationale would be that use of the image significantly clarifies critical commentary in the text. —teb728 t c 21:28, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

CNN description

I checked the breitbart description.. and Wikipedia has Breatbart as a "Far Right" site.

If this is true, CNN description should read "far Left"

It is not "your page", but a Wikipedia article about you. It was deleted per the result of this discussion, in which it was determined that you do not seem to meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable actor, as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources. Rolling back multiple edits that were vandalism.

Hi,

I've spotted a page where I believe vandalism has occurred, an anonymous user identified only by an IPv4 address just straight up replaced material with nonsense.

The problem is that the "contributor" altered the page over the course of 3 edits. I've tried to click "Undo" on the first malicious edit hoping to "roll back" the entire article to its previously good state, but as you can imagine the system does not allow an undo when there are later edits. I could try to undo all three edits individually, but even if that worked it would just be cluttering up the page history - three malicious edits followed by three undos.

Is there any way that I can just do a straight up "Rollback" to identify the last good version as the correct version, reverting all of the malicious edits in a single transaction?

SeanWrynn You can go into the article edit history and compare the last edit before the vandalism with the most recent edit, and then revert that in one step. You can also enable Twinkle in your Preferences(under gadgets) to rollback edits(though you should review the information about it first, so that wouldn't help you immediately). 331dot (talk) 20:34, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

If the vandalism was the most recent edits, you can also open the last good version of the page and save that as an edit; it will warn you that the page is old, but that's what you want to do in that instance. 331dot (talk) 20:36, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

Suspected of spamming when adding national guidelines to health sites

The Health Care Education Association has just come out with national guidelines for patient education. I have tried to add this reference to the pages for patient education, teach back, and health literacy.

Wikipedia has warned me I am promoting an organization, or spamming. I do not mean to violate rules. I mean to provide a link to new national guidelines for evidence-based practice.
