Alternate side of the street parking[edit]

Alternate side of the street parking was created by MY GRANDFATHER!!! His name was Isidore Cohen. He was the Bureau Superintendent of the Department of Sanitation. HE created this for street cleaning. DO. NOT GIVE CREDIT TO SOMEONE ELSE!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.166.92.48 (talk) 00:05, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you have suggestions for improving an article, discuss it on the article's talk page, including references. RudolfRed (talk) 00:52, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alternate-side parking credits Paul Rogers Screvane and backs it up with a New York Times article. On the other hand, the New York Daily News says Cohen invented it, so I'll mention him as well in that article. Clarityfiend (talk) 01:12, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Sorry to hear about your husband. Unfortunately, this page is only for questions about using Wikipedia. The editors here are all volunteers and probably won't be able to assist with your specific situation. If you would like to contact a public official, you should look up their website and they will usually have a contact form. DanCherek (talk) 01:41, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia installation fails in GooglePlay on Android 4.4.2[edit]

It gives error 403 with no further explanation. Why? Is there anything I can do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a00:1028:8380:3c16:1152:a1ca:b96f:89b0 (talkcontribs)

HTTP 403 means "access forbidden" by the server. You can tell which server is forbidding access by looking at the URL. It is not likely that this is a Wikipedia server, so you will need to contact whoever runs the server that is forbidding access. Post that URL here if you need help interpreting who the server belongs to.-Arch dude (talk) 05:31, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Friend, a major issue may be that Android 4 is incredibly out of date, as that version was initially released close to a decade ago. You may need to upgrade to a newer device in order to access Wikipedia or much of anything else. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:07, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Smart search of deletion log[edit]

The deletion log (Special:Log) allows you to search for a specific target (title of article). But in the case of somebody with a common name, the article probably had some kind of disambiguation: perhaps a middle name or initial, perhaps an occupation, etc. Is there some way to do a smart search of the deletion log, that might pick up every article with a combination of a first and last name, regardless of what else is there? Or some way to find a partial match? Or other suggestion?--Gronk Oz (talk) 06:49, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The only way probbably is a database query. I am not an expert for those though. Victor Schmidt (talk) 08:58, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Administrators can make title searches at Special:Undelete. Do you want a specific search? PrimeHunter (talk) 09:36, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks - I was wondering about Mark Sargent. But not the same Mark Sargent as Mark Sargent - the one I am wondering about is an author and Flat-Earth proponent.--Gronk Oz (talk) 11:50, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No. There was briefly a stub titled "Mark Sargent (Lawyer)", about "a family law reform advocate who has fought to end corruption within the family law process"; remarkably, it was in a single category, namely Category:Career achievements of basketball players. That's all. But for all I know there could also have been an article on a Mark [initial or middle name] Sargent. -- Hoary (talk) 12:20, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that! --Gronk Oz (talk) 12:21, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see anything in the WP:AFD archives (searched for "Mark" and "Sargent" as separate words). DMacks (talk) 12:25, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gronk Oz: Mark Sargent (Lawyer) (about Mark Torin Leslie Sargent) is the only deleted page with "Mark" and "Sargent" in the title. @Hoary: Special:Undelete makes a full title search since phab:T109561. Earlier it only made a prefix search. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:37, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That is brilliant - thanks!--Gronk Oz (talk) 13:48, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On home page: land in the Search box, automatically?[edit]

On home page: land in the Search box, automatically?

When going to the/a home page such as https://en.wikipedia.org/, it would be good for me, if my cursor were automatically in the Search box. Has this been considered (and rejected)? Would it have any undesirable side-effects? If not, might it benefit other people? Harry F 82.17.189.85 (talk) 10:27, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:FAQ/Main Page#Why doesn't the cursor appear in the search box, like with Google? PrimeHunter (talk) 10:30, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Implement "backlinking" for references?[edit]

Implement "backlinking" for references? On long pages there can be many links to references. Sometimes, there are several places in the text body which refer to the same reference. Occasionally, I want to find all places in the body which point to a particular reference. Is this of sufficient interest to others? Could it be implemented automatically? Harry F

Most articles already have this. Click ^ if a reference is used once. Click letters if it's used more than once. See Help:Footnotes#Overview. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:49, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edittools on Mon Wiktionary Dropdown box doesn't work[edit]

Please help! dropdown box at https://mnw.wiktionary.org/wiki/မဳဒဳယာဝဳကဳ:Edittools doesn’t work. I copy the code from my.wiktionary.org. But it does't work in Mon Wiktionary.14:34, 27 April 2021 (UTC)Htawmonzel (talk)

Hello, Htawmonzel. This help desk is for asking questions related to editing on the English Wikipedia. You will have to ask someone on mnw.wiktionary.org for help. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 15:12, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dear EDG 543Mon Wiktionary is a new created and our community is too small. we don't have any person who have enough technical knowledge to fix this. --Htawmonzel (talk) 18:37, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Htawmonzel is the only interface administrator there so they probably lack users with technical knowledge. I'm not sure how much you have to copy but try my:wikt:MediaWiki:Gadget-Edittools.js, my:wikt:MediaWiki:Gadget-Edittools.css, my:wikt:MediaWiki:Gadget-Edittools,
== Hidden gadgets and utils ==
* Edittools[ResourceLoader|hidden|default|dependencies=mediawiki.cookie,jquery.textSelection]|Edittools.js
from my:wikt:Mediawiki:Gadgets-definition, and var load_edittools = true; from my:wikt:MediaWiki:Common.js. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:29, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Tak skal du have PrimeHunter, Even though I copy all files that you mentioned it still does't work. --Htawmonzel (talk) 18:37, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Htawmonzel: It works for me. Try to bypass your cache. Use Ctrl+F5 in many Windows browsers, not just F5. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:43, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Yes, it works now. Thank alot. Så ved jeg nu hvem jeg skal spørge hvis jeg har problem næst gang. Tak --Htawmonzel (talk) 18:48, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Spotlight Actor Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about an actor, showing how they meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable actor. Facebook and IMDB are not considered reliable sources. If you have independent sources with significant coverage, please us Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft, after first reviewing Your First Article.
If you are associated with this actor, please review conflict of interest and paid editing for information on required formal disclosures you may need to make. 331dot (talk) 20:21, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Welllll, Spotlight Actor... the general rule for notability is the General notability guideline (GNG)... to really really simplify, you're going to need at least two articles, in reliable and publications that aren't really obscure, that have say at least a full paragraph about the person (reviewing his work in this or that film, describing his career arc, assessing his general ability, putting out some personal details, like that; interviews are good too), sufficient to make an article a couple paragraphs long at least.
Bare lists that he's on, passing mentions in articles... these don't help. His website doesn't help, or any other similar-type source such as a website attached to a film hes in, his agency, etc. -- we want independent proof of notability. (Awards and important roles in major-studio productions help maybe some, but you still need enough material to make a decent-size article. IMdB doesn't help for establishing notability, since they include everyone, and we don't even use IMdB as a reference as it's not reliable enough.
I took a quick search for you guy and didn't find anything to qualify him right off, but a deeper dig might find some. Herostratus (talk) 22:36, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
