I want to start my own wiki.[edit]

I have an idea for a wiki site that hasn’t been created yet. Where do I start. Is the source code/installer on github? Also can I contact the owners of bots to run them on my wiki? The two that come to mind are the anti vandalism bot I think called cluebot 2 and there’s a bot that stops people from posting from proxies and vpns.

This is not quite the right place to ask. but we can help a little. The wiki software used here is called Mediawiki. You can install it on a server or a virtual server ("VM") anywhere on the Internet on which you are an administrator, and you will then have a wiki of your own. All of the bots here on the English Wikipedia are open source, so you are permitted to copy them and run them on your new wiki. You will runs these copies, since you are the owner of the copies on your wiki. Please note: this is not a trivial task. -Arch dude (talk) 04:02, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Copying and pasting[edit]

Is it ok if i copy a text from Wikipedia and then paste it into my bible notes/notes. I sometimes cut out the information i do not need.

Misrepresentation of Wikipedia article[edit]

I am a translator and I was looking for the technical term for Asphalt Shingle in Danish. A lot of times Wikipedia as a good starting point when researching or double-checking the translation of industry specific technical terms. In my search I came across: https://da.abcdef.wiki/wiki/Asphalt_shingle which seems to be a machine translated copy of Wikipedia with ads. The corresponding article on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asphalt_shingle) does not have an official Danish version. Aside from a potential legal issue of leeching on Wikipedia, the problem with this page is that it does not translate a asphalt shingle to 'bitumen single' or 'tjærepap single' but translates it as shingles into 'helvedesild' (hellfire) which is a Herpes rash. I have already found several Danish roofing companies that are too cheap to use a proper translation service and are describing their products as a herpes rash on the English part of their website. I don't know if they are being mislead by the Herpes rash on the leeched Wikipedia page or if or they are just ignorant of that Google Translate is a tool and not a solution. This is my first contact to Wikipedia, so I don't know if it is the right place, but now I have done my part in the fight against leeches and cheap quality translations.

We have no control over sites that copy the English Wikipedia. Copies are completely legal if the copy attributes Wikipedia as the source, since we have a CC-BY-SA license. Since you appear to want to solve the more general problem within the Danish roofing industry (thanks!) you do have an option: create an article within the Danish Wikipedia. You have just as much right to do so as anyone else. You may choose to translate the English article, or start from scratch or anything in between. -Arch dude (talk) 14:25, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help update logo on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KSHB-TV[edit]

Hi! I work for EW Scripps, the parent company of KSHB. I have been asked to update the KSHB logo as the station has gone through a rebrand - you can see their new blue letter logo on https://www.kshb.com/. I'm not sure how to update it on the WIKI page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KSHB-TV , any help would be appreciated. @Fei Xing Scripps: The file in question is hosted at Wikimedia Commons, more specifically, at this link. I recommend you read that project's policy on Threshold of originality, which is the policy used to allow the upload of these kinds of images to Commons. If you believe the new logo also falls within that policy, then feel free to upload it there, following all other required policies. After that, you will be able to use that file on KSHB-TV. As and Ås[edit]

There are several place names in Finland and Norway named Ås listed at As. They are also listed at Ås. Should they be at As at all, given that they are already listed at the correct spelling, and that A and Å are very distinct letters, with different pronunciations, both in the Scandinavian languages and in Finnish? JIP, I would say yes, because Å is regarded as A with an accent in English, though not in the Scandinavian languages. Also Å is sometimes replaced with A when Å is not available on a keyboard. TSventon (talk) 17:49, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving talk page sections[edit]

Hi PinkElixir. As it says in the template's documentation page, the bot has a set time where it archives user talk pages, and only does so once a day. Your code seems to be correct, so I'd say to just wait until tomorrow to see if it archives correctly. Isabelle ^🔔 18:06, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
