Mass deleting monthly talk page archiving

Somebody set up monthly talk page archiving at List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events some years ago, without consensus. There's been an agreement the monthly archiving is not ideal, so I've decided to just do the archiving myself manually. The issue this has presented, however, is that the search function in the talk page archive is now finding both the manually archived pages, and the bot monthly archive, effectively doubling up on results. Anyway that's just my explanation of the current situation. My question is how do I mass request the deletion of all 58 of the monthly archived talk pages? Incidentally you can find all 58 pages in the archive template at this version of the talk page: [1]. I haven't had to request the deletion of a talk page before. I was going to just PROD them, though I note you're not supposed to use PROD on talk pages, and I wasn't sure if I should 'create' an article for the corresponding talk pages that only consists of a PROD tag. @Damien Linnane: There are incoming links from the original archiving in the page history [2] and maybe in other places. I suggest redirecting each archive to the new location of the moved content. That's what happens for page moves. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:43, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Mistake: Boston Common article, 'History' section

Hello! I do not know of another way to report this mistake on the Boston Common page so please let me know if I am doing this incorrectly. While reading the page's 'History' section I noticed it reads "[the commons] was used for public hangings up until 1817, most of which were from a large oak which was replaced..."

This is not correct, as the tree used for public hangings in the common was the Great Elm (Wikipedia article: 'Great Elm (Boston)' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Elm_(Boston) ). Which was, as the name states, an elm tree and not an oak tree.

It would be helpful if this could be corrected to the proper tree type or even linking to the article on the famed & specific elm may be more helpful to future users. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:182:c780:450:7035:d6a4:b518:fa30 (talk)

my new page has been deleted several times

It's good that you created it in draft space, but if you write an advertisement, it will get deleted. That is what happened. You were not following policies. See WP:NOTPROMOTION. Wikipedia is never to be used as a publicity platform. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:04, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

"Expression error" on page of Charlie Hedges

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Hedges got an error and I can't figure out why.

I've got rid of the error message, by removing the value of the birth_date parameter from the infobox. The value I removed was the template {{birth based on age as of date|18 July 1986}} followed by a reference; it wasn't doing what it was meant to do, I've no idea why. That is what template documentation is for ... In the article, the template was malformed in two ways:

1. missing first positional parameter <age> without which {{birth based on age as of date}} cannot make a calculation
2. the 'as of date' portion of the template was not written as separate positional parameters: |18 July 1986 should have been written |<year>|<month>|<day> (as digits)

I'm not sure where the 'as of date' information in the template-call came from but, if the associated reference is correct – the subject was 33 when the Huffpost article was published – then the template should be written:

{{birth based on age as of date|33|2019|08|01}}

1985 or 1986 (age 37–38)

How to report a user

I have faced a IP address user 93.137.6.143 he is vandalising indian football related pages and deleting references without providing any reference for his editing. Museum card (Finland) and Museumkaart

The names of the articles Museum card (Finland) and Museumkaart have been bothering me for almost two months now. The name of the first article is a translation to English, the name of the second article is not. This is a glaring inconsistency. I have tried both to move Museum card (Finland) to Museokortti and to move Museumkaart to Museum card (Netherlands) but both move requests failed. It's as if there were consensus to maintain the inconsistency. What should be done here to get either of the articles moved? JIP | Talk 14:24, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

A consensus? Much more likely, no-one else has noticed, or the few who have don't care. Anyway, Wikipedia policy is to name things according to what they're usually called in English. Museum card (Finland) has two English-language sources, which both have "Museum card". Museumkaart's sources are all in Dutch. If it really bothers you, you could look for some English-language sources which use your preferred name. Maproom (talk) 14:46, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Uninstall Redwarn?

I keep misclicking when I'm trying to look at a diff. The rather terrifying "use the multiple action tool between selected revisions" button that appears just before my misclicks is from Redwarn, and I can't figure out how to uninstall it. —valereee (talk) 16:32, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Parameters in templates

Hi Lightbluerain. If you want to learn how to create parameters, I recommend using the Template sandbox. I've left a simple example on {{X1}} to show how parameters are added to a template and how they are used by editors. You can check its usage by pasting {{X1|1=|2=|test=}} on your own sandbox. I also recommend checking the source code of other existing templates to learn how parameters work. Isabelle ^🔔 18:43, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Thanks @Isabelle Belato. I saw your edit on X1 but I didn't understand how exactly is this parameter going to work with the template. @Lightbluerain: Writing a template is very similar to writing in any other code, but you do not need knowledge of Lua or Python or anything like that, just wikitext should be enough. The most important concepts you need to learn are parameters (anything inside three curly brackets {{{1}}}) and magic words, which include conditional expressions, such as {{#if:string |result1 |result2}}, and allow you to create more complex templates. Help needed to authenticate further the artist / musician/ composer/ guitarist "Peter Betan" article

Dear Sirs, Thank you for your contributions in condensing this article. The title of the article is "Peter Betan" It has been edited by editor(s)and has claims of multiple issues by wikipedia after the attempt to further expand, update and authenticate this article by the contributor.

Help is needed by the contributor(s)of this article by wikipedia to clear the issues in the following categories:

1)Early Life category:

Certain factual details are only known to the contributor of this particular section of the article. Example 1) ("inventing his own chords and chord diagrams...")Example 2) Paraphrasing: (...formed his own band and named it the Fabulous 5 and performed at the PS 154 grammar school auditorium in Woodside Queens...)  There is no actual documentation of these facts but they are authentic and adds to the interest in the reading of the article pertaining to the artists early life, it is not a fabrication. Example 3)("...opening act for Richie Havens at the Stephen Talkhouse...") this factual detail has a dead link at the end. The contributor found a link to authenticate this fact but is hesitant and not sure how to replace the dead link with a live one without creating issues.

The contributor needs help in eliminating the dead link(s) pertaining to the "Early Life" category and replacing them with authentic live ones. Please advise -

2) In the attempt to eliminate / delete dead links by the contributor and replacing them with live ones, it has caused additional issues and editing by wikipedia of the article Example 1): Throughout the article, the artistic influence by other artists to the artist (Peter Betan) is mentioned. The names of these particular artists we're highlighted by the contributor. Why has wikipedia eliminated these highlighted influential artists that were influential to the mentioned artist (Peter Betan) throughout the Early life and Career sections? Why couldn't they remain? Why is this an issue or conflict? The highlighted artists that were edited were simply influential to the artist (Peter Betan) and nothing more. Please advise -

3) Discography, Single Releases and Film Placement contents sections: The contributor updated and created live links in an attempt to further authenticate the Album releases, the Singles releases and Film Placement credentials of the artist(Peter Betan)These links were eliminated by wikipedia. Please explain and advise -

4) References section: In an attempt to remove a dead reference from this section by the contributor (#6 in the references section) it was replaced by a bold red message saying: "cite error: The named reference msc was invoked but never defined" The contributor does not understand what this message means, was not intended to create an issue and needs help to resolve this matter and eliminate it from the article. Please explain and advise -

@Betinfo: Please take a look at the article's edit history. The anonymous editor who made the changes mentioned three specific reasons: WP:EL, WP:NOTRESUME, and WP:BLP. Please read those three guidelines. In addition, your username and your edit history make it seem that you are associated with the subject. If so, you need to declare your WP:COI. If not, then since this issue has been raised, you are very strongly advised to explicitly declare your (non) relationship to the subject. After all that, you are in a (minor) content dispute with the anonymous editor. You should start a discussion on the article's talk page to try to reach a consensus. Only after you make a good-faith effort to reach consensus, you may then proceed to WP:DISPUTE. -Arch dude (talk) 19:16, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Given the edit history--239 edits since 2009, all associated with Mr. Betan--and the claim above that Certain factual details are only known to the contributor of this particular section of the article, it's reasonable to conclude that the article was created, and has been maintained for twelve years, as an autobiography. The user did not respond to the WP:COI message I left on their page, preferring to do a workaround by coming here. Very well. Please assume good faith (WP:AGF). I strongly agree with you that appearances are heavily against Betinfo here, but if he does decide to engage with you on the article's talk page, then please try to help him before jumping all the way to "administrative action". So far, your (perfectly reasonable) edits to the article are explained only in the edit summaries, and Betinfo may not be conversant in how to examine them and how to discuss them with you. You're right about WP:AGF, Arch dude. But twelve years of editing here, if intermittently, for one self-interested purpose only, is different from a truly inexperienced editor coming in for the first time and making three or four revisions to tweak their bio. Even in those instances, the rope that's offered is often short, prior to a ban from editing the particular article for promotional purposes. Getting a musician profile on Wikipedia

Endongo Wikipedia has no profiles, not a single one. Wikipedia has articles. Those articles summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a musician, showing how they meet Wikipedia's special definition of a notable musician. Wikipedia has no interest in affecting search results for you; please contact search engines for assistance in reducing confusion. If you merit an article, independent editors will take note of you in reliable sources and choose to write about you. Please review the autobiography policy. 331dot (talk) 20:54, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

See also Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. You may be on the crest of a wave right now, but suppose you are found guilty of some terrible crime in ten years' time? MinorProphet, I don't think that's a helpful contribution. I agree very strongly that it is not a good idea for this person to try to write an autobiography here, and that the motivations expressed above are not in alignment with the aims of this project, but seriously: "suppose you are found guilty of some terrible crime in ten years' time"? I distinctly remember the posts on this very page of someone who served for many years as a Chief Firefighter (not directly acknowledged, but it was trivial to find out who he was), and who was subsequently elected to Council Office, perhaps in Liverpool; and he was later found guilty of fraud or some other crime. If I remember correctly he had paid to have an article written about him: and his unhappy attempts to have the article removed linger in my memory. Fame is not all it's cracked up to be. Nicaraguan Revolution NO!

There was not Nicaraguan Revolution. Revolution is defined, en English and Spanish, as a forcible overthrow of a government or social order, in favor of new system. Nicaragua replaced Somoza's dictatorship with another dictatorship, Ortega-Murillo. Event does not meet the definition, it should be flagged. @Agualcas: If you want to propose a new name, you can do so on the article's talk page. See Wikipedia:Requested moves. Articles are titled according to how the subject is most commonly referred to in reliable sources.

An alternative would be Sandinista revolution, which is currently a redirect to Nicaraguan Revolution. The sources cited in the article seem to refer to "Sandinista revolution" more than "Nicaraguan revolution", so that may be a viable alternative. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:50, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

The OP objects to "revolution". However, that's what scholars and the press label it, so that's what Wikipedia calls it. Ortega replaced a corrupt family-controlled dictatorship with a corrupt leftist regime. That's a new system. Clarityfiend (talk) 21:53, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
