question about an edit[edit]

on the history section of the page Lee, there is an edit that is not linked and is in bold, i know what revision deletion is but this one is in bold which is not normal — Preceding unsigned comment added by 154.160.4.212 (talkcontribs) 02:40, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a suppressed edit. Suppression (also known as oversight) is similar to revision deletion, but suppressed edits are not available even to admins (whereas revdeleted edits are available to both admins and oversighters). Kleinpecan (talk) 02:53, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notability - Vaev[edit]

I was thinking of creating an article regarding this particular item, but I'm not sure if it's notable and so I thought I'd check in here first and see what people thought. The article in question is concerning the company / hoax - Vaev or VaevTissue ("Vaev" being the Danish name for tissue). This is a website that purports to sell used tissues - the idea being that supposedly with this you can "boost your immune system by catching a cold on your own terms." The company is, however, fake. Although the website - https://www.vaevtissue.com - has been online since 2017, the only "product" it offers has consistently shown as being "sold out." Furthermore, the creator of the site admitted publicly that the site / product is a hoax, that he intentionally created the site with the intention to dupe the media. And boy did they fall for it, and here's the part where I feel like it's notable. The story was picked up by multiple international media organizations. Some, such as Time, later edited their articles to reflect that the site was fake. However, others such as CNet and expressed doubt, but never actually updated their articles to reflect that the product was a hoax, and even wasted time and resources quoting scientists saying basically "Hey, people, don't do this." Other organizations which picked the story, to name just a few, include The New York Post and Inverse, as well as a number of more localized outlets. ProfessorTofty (talk) 03:26, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The policy at WP:NHOAX would seem to be met, if you have all these reliable sources (or ones that are normally reliable but got stung in this case!). Mike Turnbull (talk) 09:40, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks much, then, and yeah, interesting bit of humor there. I'll try to get on it soon. ProfessorTofty (talk) 03:11, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Problem printing Wikipedia pages[edit]

I am using Google Chrome and Windows 10. My printer is set to print A4 pages. Within the last week or so, when I print a Wikipedia page using Control+P the software does not get the page margins correctly and text in the left and right margins is not printed. Edcdeee (talk) 04:13, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid that's likely a problem your end, rather than here on Wikipedia, Edcdeee. I've just tried printing the Main Page using Win 10 + Edge (same engine as Chrome) and it looks fine: note that any banner at the top of the page and all the menu items on the left are deliberately left out of the print. All I can suggest is that you switch to printing in landscape mode rather than portrait, to see if that makes a difference. Also, try using the "print to .pdf" rather than print to your specific printer, to see whether that is part of the issue. Mike Turnbull (talk) 09:35, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template edit request: DCdatabase[edit]

Template:DCdatabase has needed a space moved for a couple of years now...help, please? —DocWatson42 (talk) 06:06, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DocWatson42: You should have used {{request edit}}, {{edit semi-protected}} or something along those lines to catch someone's attention to the template. The issiue seems to be a combination of factors between this template and the underlying template {{Wikia}}, which is fully protected. Can we get one of the admin folks looking into that? (Its early in the morning where I live and I am not comfortable yet tracking down wich param to change to have the desired effect) Victor Schmidt (talk) 06:26, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Victor Schmidt: I'm sorry—I am unaccustomed to making these requests, and am thus not fluent in doing so. -_-; —DocWatson42 (talk) 06:29, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, {{Help me}} is an even better template. Victor Schmidt (talk) 06:34, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You may have been overthinking it. I tried removing all the spaces [1] and that seems to work. The current output sounds awful but that's a different matter: "Batman on DC Database, an external wiki, a DC Comics wiki". PrimeHunter (talk) 21:48, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DEFAMATION[edit]

I am Mr. Steve Down, someone created a Wikipedia account with my name ( STEVE DOWN ) with the aim of defamation. He has written information about me which is not true. Help me with how I can deal with this.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr. Steve Down (talkcontribs) 07:10, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If there's any issue with the article's accuracy, it's due to the sources and not what was written based off them. I suggest you be more judicious with your word choice.A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 07:23, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know about defamation but it may be a problem that there is an account in his name. 331dot (talk) 09:08, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My guess is that Mr. Steve Down means that there is an article Steve Down, rather than an account, 331dot. Readers who think that Wikipedia contains "profiles" often confuse accounts with articles. --ColinFine (talk) 12:59, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That could be, but there was another account in his name that edited the article about him. I've blocked both as well known people. 331dot (talk) 13:38, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mr. Steve Down: If there is an assertion in an article (Steve Down or any other article) that is not supported by a reference to a reliable publised source (WP:RS), it can be removed by you or anyone. It there an assertion is supported by a reference, it must not be removed. However, if a different reliable source contradicts the assertion, then that contradiction should be added to the article, citing the second source. An unsupported assertion in an article about a living person must be removed immediately (WP:BLP).-Arch dude (talk) 16:05, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How can i Publish a translation?[edit]

Hey, I recently tried translating an article from hebrew to english. It wouldnt let me publish so i had to publish it as a community draft. Can you guys explain to me how i can ask for help publishing? And if there is a contact i would love that, as i do not know any english editors. The article is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Samelet

please, any help would be appreciated!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by CaptainTalko (talkcontribs) 07:37, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This would not be accepted due to the utter lack of sources. This may have been acceptable at Hebrew Wikipedia, but not here. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 07:41, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What Happened to an article that I submitted on December 22, 2020 entitled, "Alpha Tau Medical, Ltd."?[edit]

This article was supposed to have been reviewed within 5 months, and I have not received any feedback on it. I already have an article entitled, "Diffusing alpha emitters radiation therapy" which was published in July 2020.

thank you, Ellen Shnidman — Preceding unsigned comment added by EllenShnidman (talkcontribs) 09:00, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It says "5 months or more", and it is not yet 5 months. As the notice says: "There are 5,355 pending submissions waiting for review". There is no deadline, so please be patient. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:06, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please also note that it is mandatory to declare paid editing. Theroadislong (talk) 09:09, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We have a backlog of about 5000 drafts, with a couple hundred more coming in each day, and (based on my experience) a single digit number of reviewers who do most of the reviewing. Your draft would take me several minutes to assess, not a particularly enjoyable task for me, and I could review several other drafts in that time. Additionally, it seems you have failed to pay attention to our paid editing rules and are only editing topics that you will personally profit from the promotion of. So you should not expect unpaid volunteers to be bending over backwards to cater to you. — Bilorv (talk) 12:38, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A Question[edit]

Why are editors removing the image I added, I was the owner of that image, I had added that to Commons, the image was suitable for the article. Then why??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Campycipro (talkcontribs) 10:49, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You could try the WP:BRD method to find out. Assuming this is about [2]. See also Wikipedia:Communication is required, article talk-pages exist for a reason. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:05, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Campycipro: Thank you for contributing to Wikimedia Commons! I don't think there was anything wrong with the photo you inserted at Cat. The editors who reverted your change probably thought it wasn't a necessary improvement over the image that was already there. The edit notice at Template:Editnotices/Page/Cat points out that many Wikipedians would like to have their pets appear in an article, but if an image isn't broken, it probably doesn't need to be replaced.
The current image at the top of the Cat#Behavior depicts a cat which is relaxing outdoors in the evening. This makes it particularly relevant to the associated paragraph, which mentions the facts that cats spend a lot of time sleeping, that they are frequently outdoors, and tend to be more active in the evening. If this image needed to be replaced (which it doesn't), I would prefer one like File:DozingCat0796.jpg or File:Cat-relaxed.jpg which depict a sleeping cat in the same circumstances.
Hope this answer helps! RoxySaunders (talk · contribs) 22:07, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That guy keeps on changing images on different article, uploading image on Wikimedia commons and claiming the image as their own (also without source). 49.149.113.40 (talk) 02:12, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

CLEAN UP AND CORRECTIONS REQUIRED: Page "Sheikh Zahed Gilani"[edit]

CLEAN UP AND CORRECTIONS REQUIRED -

Azerbaidjani Nationalist AGENDA "editor" entered a number of blatant falsehoods and even added/exchanged a photo of TOMB with obscure and unrelated content!!!

Reference to Lankaran with regard to Sheikh Zahed Gilani is not factual (if not downright silly!) THIS is clearly and provenly the TOMB location and PHOTO, as it had been prior to an amateur exchanging it:

https://www.google.com/search?q=zahed+gilani+tomb&client=firefox-b-d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj1it_- 35fwAhVB1BoKHRX7CdgQ_AUoAnoECAIQBA&biw=1344&bih=699

https://www.facebook.com/ZAHEDI.Family/photos/a.151857841622622/151857854955954

Zahed Gilani spent all his life in Lahijan/Gilan and is buried there. The Safavid Shahs, descending from Zahed Gilani through his daughter have maintained the Lahijan Tomb at Sheikhanvar Village for some 250 years.

No sense in entring the nonsense about LANKARAN, and posting an obscure photo of some unrelated building on the ZAHED GILANI page!!! The factual photos had been posted and were exchanged with NONSENSE!!!

Someone sensible please revert to original photo and check on the farfetched assertion that MINORSKY, of all experts should have made the reference about Lankaran. The referenced source ISLAMIC ENCYCLPEDIA has obviously merely confused the original factual reference to LAHIDJAN!!!

A check of the purported Islamic Encyclpedia reveals that THERE his DEATH is mentioned to have taken place in Siavarud a part of Lahijan district: https://islamansiklopedisi.org.tr/ibrahim-zahid-i-geylani The false assertions to Lankaran are entirely baseless and no references, even, can be found anywhere! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pantherarosa (talkcontribs) 12:45, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Pantherarosa: writing in uppercase and with so many exclamation marks makes for a very aggressive and off-putting message. What do you need help with? I can't tell. Information in Wikipedia must be verifiable i.e. reliably referenced, and content which is unsourced or incorrect can be removed by any reader. However, the links you have given are not to reliable sources and so cannot be used to write content in an article. — Bilorv (talk) 13:14, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Talk:Zahed Gilani is the page on which to discuss the article, Pantherarosa. Keep in mind that getting angry and overly excited will not facilitate communication with your fellow editors. You seem convinced that your view is the only view. Do you know how to have a calm discussion? That is what is always called for on Wikipedia discussion pages. We refrain from insulting those with whom we disagree, and avoid typing like we are making a protest sign.--Quisqualis (talk) 04:20, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Homero Biography[edit]

Hi I would like to speak with someone who could help me write my bio. I am not sure how to go about it. If you can let me know the fee. Thank you Homero— Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.174.2.125 (talk)

Please review the autobiography policy as to why what you want to do is strongly discouraged, and why an Wikipedia article about you is not necessarily desirable. There is no fee charged to edit Wikipedia, but in order for you to succeed in writing an article about yourself, you would need to set aside everything you know about yourself and only write based on what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about you, showing how you meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person. Most people cannot do that about themselves, but if you truly feel that you can, and have the sources to support it, you may use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft article for an independent review. If you just want to tell the world about yourself, you should use social media, your own website, or other outlet where that is permitted. 331dot (talk) 18:18, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are external websites and individuals (nothing to do with Wikipedia at all) who advertise their services and claim to write Wikipedia articles for a fee. Beware, they may take your money and provide nothing in return. At Wikipedia we don't get paid, and the very idea is anathema to us. We are volunteers. We write about what interests us. You may think you are notable, but you probably aren't: otherwise someone else would have probably written an article about you already. Sorry to sound negative, but Wikipedia is a worldwide quality encyclopedia, not a street stall hawking info about all and sundry. The advice of 331dot above is excellent. Sometimes I wish I were famous, but an article about me would be filled with controversy and I'm glad that there isn't one. MinorProphet (talk) 18:55, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Israel–Gaza recent tensions[edit]

Hello, all. I wanted some input before I tried writing up an article. There have been numerous rocket attacks and retaliation between both countries, unrest, and casualties. Attacks happened nearly a day ago, and retaliatory strikes on Gaza happened just minutes ago. Do you think this warrants a stand-alone article or just a section in Gaza–Israel conflict. Here are some sources I could use: NYT, CBS, BBC, CBS, AP, and many more. Also, a name suggestion would be helpful. Would May 2021 Gaza–Israel conflict be sufficient? Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 18:40, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

EDG 543 there is an article on this: 2021 Israel–Palestine crisis. Feel free to contribute to that article. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:02, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a subject which arouses the greatest of emotions, and unless you are experienced in editing controversial topics on Wikipedia, and can contribute with a completely neutral point of view I strongly suggest you wait and watch.
