October 14[edit]

Joe Don Baker[edit]

Baker was born in Groesbeck, Texas, as per wikipedia. Under Grosebeck, Texas, as per wikipedia, he is not included on the list of Notable People. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:6080:A508:D600:4D4:AE0A:8AF2:B37 (talk) 00:43, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I added Joe Don Baker to Groesbeck, Texas notable persons section. RudolfRed (talk) 02:14, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I just fixed the entire "Notable people" section of this article. There were two IP edits that messed up the names, while also removing Baker. Cmr08 (talk) 04:57, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! RudolfRed (talk) 16:25, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to remove the redirect on Jason Luna's name[edit]

Jason Luna's name currently redirects to the "1 vs. 100" page. I think this redirect should be removed so that he can have his own page at some point. He has also appeared on GSN's "Masterminds" and the syndicated "25 words or less", as well as some acting projects, so the redirect is limiting in its nature. This redirect does not seem to be useful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:8000:A900:47A1:D13B:A3DE:7DC:E6A2 (talk) 06:29, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

IP editor, an article can be written as a draft then moved to Jason Luna via Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests, so the redirect should not be a problem. TSventon (talk) 06:53, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We now strongly recommend the use of the "draft" process for new articles: see WP:YFA. When a draft is ultimately accepted, the reviewer will take care of this detail as part of the process. -Arch dude (talk) 14:24, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mapframe format[edit]

How does one localize the red sign in a mapframe? I've added one at Cumbre Vieja tsunami hazard but the coordinates are waaaay off. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 13:24, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved

How to make an existing page in English also available on German Wikipedia[edit]

How to make existing English page available in German on German Wikipedia??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C46:537F:ECB2:F0B4:8DDD:9ECA:E9AD (talk) 18:37, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! For information about translating articles on the English Wikipedia for the German Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Translate us and de:Wikipedia:Translation. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:47, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The correct link is de:Wikipedia:Übersetzungen. Cheers  hugarheimur 19:00, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Torana: Thank you for posting the correct link. I turned on my browser's translate feature to make sure I had the correct German page, but then didn't turn it off before copying the page name. Dankeschön! GoingBatty (talk) 19:13, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question, please forward to customer service[edit]

Why are you allowing Barbara O'Neill character's assassination on your website. She is a naturopath, herbalist, nutritionist and a former nurse. By you allowing this unfounded information you are lying to the public. All she does is advocate for natural remedies and clean living. You know, healthy food, exercise, fresh air, sunshine etc. Please review what you are letting be published. She is a fine person and does not deserve this treatment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOThmw0e7ZM

Thank you, Jennifer Lueders — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:3A80:9090:2531:C275:62D7:F8DF (talk) 19:17, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. This is a volunteer project. There is no "customer service". If you have suggestions for improving an article, start a discussion on that article's talk page. Wikipedia articles will reflect what is reported in published reliable sources. RudolfRed (talk) 19:50, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) The article's talk page is Talk:Barbara O'Neill. A YouTube video by O'Neill's spouse promoting his book would not be considered an independent source. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 19:55, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there a redirect without a direct?[edit]

If I search “van Gerwen” into the Wikpedia search bar it redirects me to the Michael van Gerwen page, but why does it do that when there is no redirect on that page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Glen Glens (talkcontribs) 19:40, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Glen Glens: Van Gerwen is a redirect to Michael van Gerwen. Can you clarify your question? RudolfRed (talk) 19:52, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Glen Glens: The mechanism to perform the redirect is at Van Gerwen. Some articles have a {{redirect}} template when they are the target of the redirect (especially if editors think that the readers may be looking for another article), but this one does not. GoingBatty (talk) 19:58, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Often Wikipedia will tell me about a redirect e.g. if I search "Einstein" then the Albert Einstein article informs me about the redirect, why does the "Van Gerwen" search not inform me?--Glen Glens (talk) 20:15, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Glen Glens: Are you not seeing the (Redirected from Van Gerwen) underneath Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia right under the article's title? It shows up for me. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 20:47, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @Glen Glens: When you go to Einstein, you get redirected to Albert Einstein, there's a small message at the top, stating "(Redirected from Einstein)". Similarly, when you go to Van Gerwen, you get redirected to Michael van Gerwen, and there's a small message at the top, stating "(Redirected from Michael van Gerwen)".
The Albert Einstein article also states "Einstein" redirects here. For other uses, see Einstein (disambiguation) and Albert Einstein (disambiguation). There is no Van Gerwen (disambiguation) article, but if you can think of related articles, you may be bold and add something similar to the Michael van Gerwen article, or make a suggestion at the Talk:Michael van Gerwen page. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:51, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can see that tbe redirect is on the "van Gerwen" article. It makes sense now. Thanks.--Glen Glens (talk) 09:25, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Are capitalization rules suspended if the title of a work does not follow standard rules?[edit]

Hi there, still a relatively new editor/contributor here. I was looking at the page for the album Out Here With You and noticed someone changed the name of the page to a lowercase 'w' in 'with'. As far as I can tell, 'With' is supposed to be capitalized, as that is how it is in every official release of the album (spotify, apple music, etc). I know that for stylized names of artists (like deadmau5), usually standard capitalization is followed on wikipedia, but what about published works that have a definitive title? The capitalization page was unclear on this for me. Superlucer (talk) 20:22, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Superlucer: Hi there! The appropriate guideline can be found at MOS:TITLECAPS. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:57, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For a really long debate about whether a four-letter preposition should be capitalised in an article title, see Talk:Star Trek Into Darkness/Archive 1, 2, 3, etc. Maproom (talk) 20:59, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I like that one, it got presscoverage. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:30, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Press coverage, hell; it got an xkcd cartoon! Deor (talk) 18:50, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

picture[edit]

Id like to replace the picture associated with my wiki page. Can I get some help in doing so? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjd6060 (talkcontribs) 21:29, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mjd6060, what article are we talking about? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:44, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mjd6060: If there is an article about you on Wikipedia, you can suggest changes to it, including a change of the picture. You will first need to upload a new picture to Commons.
    • Here are the steps:
    • Take a picture of yourself. That way, you are certain that you are the owner of the copyright of the picture.
    • Use the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard to upload the picture to Commons. License the copyright of the picture to us under the CC-BY-SA by picking the "own work" option. Add a specific comment such as "this is a selfie. I am both the subject and the photographer". (We have too many pictures alleged to be "own work" when they are not, so folks tend to get a bit trigger-happy about deleting them.) If someone else took took the picture, ask them to upload and license the picture instead.
    • Go to the article's talk page and request that your new picture be added to the article. see {{request edit}}. You have a WP:COI, so please do not edit the article yourself.
Come back here if you have difficulties. -Arch dude (talk) 22:01, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @Mjd6060: When you write "my wiki page", do you mean a Wikipedia article about you? Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials might be what you're looking for. GoingBatty (talk) 22:03, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

original research[edit]

quick straw poll to see if this is original research or not; I think it is, even if just so slightly, but would be happy to stand corrected. Kingoflettuce (talk) 23:55, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The version in place at this moment appears to have escaped from being OR.--Quisqualis (talk) 02:26, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
