Wikilink preview[edit]

When I hover over a wikilink I am no longer able to see a preview when I'm logged in. I am able to see a preview if I'm not logged in. Bob K31416 (talk) 00:36, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bob K31416: The preview feature for unregistered users is "Enable page previews" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering. Registered users can also choose another preview feature "Navigation popups" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:44, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Bob K31416 (talk) 01:12, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding unregistered users, is the default: enable page previews? Also, when I clicked on the link in your first sentence when not logged in, it asked me to log in. I thought the link in the first sentence was for unregistered users but apparently it isn't. Bob K31416 (talk) 01:36, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Bob K31416: Basically, unregistered users have Page Previews enabled (and enforced). When signed in you can go into your preferences and disable it. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 01:42, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Common.js and common.css page[edit]

Hello there! Why I cannot request speedy deletion on my common.js and common.css page? Vitaium (talk) 06:30, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You should be able to; what did you try? Enterprisey (talk!) 07:34, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Vitaium: Follow the instructions at Template:Db-g7#CSS and Javascript pages -- John of Reading (talk) 08:08, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

new page templates[edit]

hi i am new here and heard that there is a template for creating a new page can you give me the link please — Preceding unsigned comment added by David Wright in Spain (talkcontribs) 10:07, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

One minute after posting this, David Wright in Spain, you posted the same question in the Teahouse. Let's answer it there rather than here. -- Hoary (talk) 11:54, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

{{#invoke:string|find|1997 Sydney International – Women's Doubles|{{PAGENAME}}}} → 0 when run on 1997 Sydney International – Women's Doubles. Why doesn't it evaluate to 1, and is there a function that will? Thanks, -- Sod25 (talk) 16:38, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Because the apostrophe in "Women's" is the html numeric character reference '. Rewrite:
{{#invoke:string|find|1997 Sydney International – Women's Doubles|{{PAGENAME}}}}
Trappist the monk (talk) 17:06, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thought the apostrophe might have been the culprit - thanks. --Sod25 (talk) 17:40, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Sod25: You can say {{#titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}}} per mw:Help:Magic words#Page names to get the page name without encoded characters: {{#invoke:string|find|1997 Sydney International – Women's Doubles|{{#titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}}}}}. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:45, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

photos not showing up on Historic Register site page[edit]

Looking for assistance to help my photos of the Deeble Rock Garden in Lucas Kansas show up on this page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Register_of_Historic_Places_listings_in_Russell_County,_Kansas Thanks for any help. SharonPapierdreams (talk) 23:24, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SharonPapierdreams: Have you uploaded your photos to Commons or Wikipedia? If so, what are their file names? If not, you can use Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard - or the "Upload image" links in the article. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:33, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I uploaded them to WikiCommons last week but they are not showing up. SharonPapierdreams (talk) 23:39, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SharonPapierdreams: I'm able to view them through your contributions without any problems. It doesn't appear you've edited the page you're concerned about, though. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 23:57, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Usually I just upload the photos to the listing and they show up. SharonPapierdreams (talk) 00:09, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SharonPapierdreams: They don't show up automatically. You have to edit the page and add the file name to the image parameter. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:30, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I've never had to do that to the hundreds of photos that I have added to historic register listings. I usually just upload the images and they show up automatically. How do I go about editing a page and adding files? SharonPapierdreams (talk) 10:57, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SharonPapierdreams: In the source editor, write the file name after |image= like the entries which do have images. If you don't know how to switch between VisualEditor and source editor then see Help:VisualEditor#Opening VisualEditor. The edit is harder to make with VisualEditor where it's difficult to locate the right image field. Can you give an example of an image which showed up automatically? PrimeHunter (talk) 13:30, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On this page I just went to the space that said upload image and I was able to easily upload Arvonia Township Hall, Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Pratt Truss Bridge and Calvinistic Methodist Church. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Register_of_Historic_Places_listings_in_Osage_County,_Kansas SharonPapierdreams (talk) 14:59, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SharonPapierdreams: Click the "View history" tab to see the page history [1]. Those three images were manually added to the article by another user Farragutful. Maybe they noticed your Commons uploads. It's rare for somebody else to add your uploads so quickly. Many uploads will never be added if you don't do it yourself. Vandalism help request from 82.27.252.166[edit]

I have noticed some vandalism at Longford_Senior_Football_Championship. Namely, table of titles changes made on 22nd October 2021 whereby changes were made which are not aligned with the cited executive source for that dataset at www.longfordgaa.ie/titles-senior-football/. Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Thank you, 82.27.252.166 (talk) 23:32, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! You can revert the edit - see WP:UNDO. Be sure to explain why you reverted it in your edit summary. GoingBatty (talk) 23:39, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
